rear facing stroller - bringing this to the top again

hi
have revived this thread as I'm in exactly the same position - got a toddler, so past the stage of wanting complicated systems, and tired of having to stop every few steps to find out what he's saying to me. the thread was too old for any of the links posted to work, so just wondering if anyone has any ideas, or if any of the original people can chip in again? ideally would like an umbrella style that i can get on and off the bus, and perfect would be one that turns do be either front or rear facing.
thanx
mitsuko

the mutsy spider is a 3 wheeler stroller that folds up smallish.

MrsBadger · 16/01/2007 11:56

the Mutsy Spider doesn't rear face though, and def doesn't lie flat...

where is The Perfect Pushchair?

tinkerbellie · 16/01/2007 12:42

the mutsy spider is poo, had it for about a day and hated it!!
will have to stick to my zapp and zoom!
but will keep on searching

fuzzywuzzy · 16/01/2007 12:45

Has anyone tried the Apple ICandy, it's rear facing and can be cahnged from a three wheeler to a four wheeler.

No idea about it's dimension or weight, but it looked compact to me.

tinkerbellie · 16/01/2007 12:59

it weghs a ton (well 12 kgs) and is quite big if my dd was younger i would get a buzz but can't justify that large a stroller to my dh (although i can to myself)
lol

MrsBadger · 16/01/2007 13:04

iCandy Apple doesn't umbrella fold, only folds flat, and doesn't lie flat either (though it beats the Bugaboo as at least you can fold it with the seat attached).
Does face both way but weighs 2.5kg more than the Loola (whose biggest complaint is how heavy it is).

tinkerbellie · 16/01/2007 13:10

yes i liked the loola but when i went ot look at it it weighs loads more than you would think

Ceolas · 16/01/2007 13:12

The Bebecar R-Versus is apparently very heavy too.

Ceolas · 16/01/2007 13:15

14.7kgs

tinkerbellie · 16/01/2007 13:16

thats lots i would't consider anything over 9kgs def
you could damage your back!!!

Piffle · 16/01/2007 18:09

Ive got icandy apple but look here
in march they are bring out the icandy cherry a smaller lighter apple
here
7.5kgs with seat unit

the apple is heavy and big...

tinkerbellie · 16/01/2007 18:20

oh my god i want it now!!!

nappyaddict · 16/01/2007 23:28

to make the bugaboo forward facing you have to use the reversible handle. does that mean when you have it forward facing the big wheels are always at the front with the little ones at the back?

MrsBadger · 17/01/2007 08:37

nope, on the Bugaboo both the seat and the handle can point either way.

The iCandy Apple always has to travel small wheels first as the handle doesn't switch, ditto the Hauck / i'coo Infinity.

tinkerbellie · 17/01/2007 09:33

yes that;s right but the big wheels can't swivel, and i found it a bit wierd to push, because she seemed to weigh it right down and when you where going down the curb it was strange but is fine once you get used to it

Piffle · 17/01/2007 09:37

you've got yout work cut out pushing a decent sized toddler around in either the Loola or icandy in reverse mode tbh.
Teh bug though is easy to push however you do it, but the seat unit is small I think.
I'm keeping my icandy until I cna safely dispatch #3 into dd's Ziko if she is able to walk for longer by then. She is 4 but hs some muscular issues

misdee · 17/01/2007 09:42

the seat is quite small on the bug. buut dd3 has a long body and short legs, so at 22months her head is almost hitting the canopy already. i think by next winter it will be in storage for #4.

tinkerbellie · 17/01/2007 18:42

what does evryone think of the buzz
am thinking about getting one off ebay just for walking up to town and keeping the zapp for just the school run and all that
would take the buzz on hols though as it lays back, do they care about how big your pushchair is at the airport?

slinkstar · 18/01/2007 02:17

hiya
so im not the only one out there looking for the perfect pushchair! i would prefer a rear facing one too. heres a list of the pushchairs i have been thinking about- i think thats all the rear facers if you don't count the 3in1's

icandy
first wheels
bayamo
britax vigour 3
britax vigour 4
hauck icoo/jeep infinity
bugaboo
quinny buzz

im thinking about the hauck infinity and the britax vigour 4.

tinkerbellie · 18/01/2007 09:52

i liked the look of the britax ones too but would want to see them in the flesh before buying one as they are quite expensive

i think i might get a buzz if i can swap my mama and papas zoom or part ex it andthen if i don' like the buzz i haven't spent another £300!!!

i had the gecko and the fact that the seat had to come off when you folded it was the bigest prob wih it for me

FestiveAtForty · 18/01/2007 14:15

Hi
My experience of the Buzz (pasted from another thread) :
I bought a Buzz about a month ago, my DD was 5 months old at the time. Before that I mainly used the Maclaren Techno which although it is brilliant to fold down and nippy for shopping, I didn't like the fact that I couldn't see her when we were out, also she seemed quite low down and near the traffic (silly I know). She herself didn't seem that bothered about being front facing though!

However I much prefer using the Buzz at the mo (in rear facing mode), wish I had got it earlier. It has a cosy bucket style seat which I've put a sheepskin liner in, she is higher up and seems to enjoy rear facing. I also like the fact that you can use the wheels to put the Maxi Cosi car seat on - sometimes I do this just to get the car seat from the car to the house as it's quite heavy to carry now with her in it. The tyres are also more robust for uneven ground, the Maclaren is pretty useless on anything except paved/tarmac and indoor surfaces.

Downsides to the Buzz - main one for me is the wide wheel base, not very nippy for shopping aisles, but just about bearable. The wheel base also has an annoying habit of springing open (when collapsed) if you grab it by the wrong bit - it has a little cord which is supposed to stop it doing this but it is much to stiff to use. Neither of which are deal-breakers for me though.

Another upside is that the resale value is quite good. I might consider getting rid of mine when DD is about a year old as I think the Maclaren will be better then (certainly for shopping anyway).

oh and you can buy a basket for it now, about £18 on Ebay, it's reasonably roomy. You can also hang a changing bag (with a long strap) over the handlebars.

I got it new on Ebay in Dec (last year's colour) for less than £200 all in from one of those sellers that sells in bulk, they put two or three on the listings per day and you have to bid for them, so just wait for one to come along cheap.

nappyaddict · 19/01/2007 09:13

does anyone know if you can fold the first wheels down with the seat on?

nappyaddict · 19/01/2007 09:13

nappyaddict · 19/01/2007 09:17

i like the britax 3 wheeler, but i wish it lay flat for a newborn.

bewilderbeast · 19/01/2007 09:53

festiveatforty the basket is 14 in toys are us and the strap seems to get easier to use over time.

I love the buzz too but there are some problems with it, the wide wheelbase means that I have to take the wheels off to get it in my car, no big deal until they are wet and muddy. As well as the stiff cord it can also be really difficult to take the seat or car seat off the base. The buzz won't fold up with the seat in rear facing position so you have to remove it to put it in the car.

on the plus side, ds was ok in the buzz (with a head support added) from 4lb 10oz as it lays nice and flat and the ability to pop the carseat on the base is great for a quick trip round the shops.
