rear facing stroller - bringing this to the top again

hi
have revived this thread as I'm in exactly the same position - got a toddler, so past the stage of wanting complicated systems, and tired of having to stop every few steps to find out what he's saying to me. the thread was too old for any of the links posted to work, so just wondering if anyone has any ideas, or if any of the original people can chip in again? ideally would like an umbrella style that i can get on and off the bus, and perfect would be one that turns do be either front or rear facing.
thanx
mitsuko

Nope, you have to take the seat off to fold the First Wheels. And you can get a carrycot for the Britax.

Piffle · 19/01/2007 10:00

hte buzz isn;t rear facing as a stroller is it though?Only as carrycot or car seat?

MrsBadger · 19/01/2007 10:03

nope, it rear-faces as a stroller too

Piffle · 19/01/2007 10:09

no shopping basket though on the buzz?
I must say I got an icandy apple to use with the new baby in march, took dd (4 yrs v small with some walking issues) out in it as the wind would have blown the ziko raincover to Timbuktu
First time I've taken it out.
Really impressed with ease of folding/ taking off seat unit etc
Heavy to get in and out of car boot (well I am 7 mths pregnant with bad back) but to steer and use, it was really very good.

FestiveAtForty · 19/01/2007 17:55

Bewilderbeast ? yes agree, it can be really tricky to get the car seat off the wheel base of the Buzz as you need to release both sides from underneath and also pull upwards at the same time so you?d need at least 3 hands to do it easily! Especially difficult when the child is still in the seat (which is the point of it after all).

I had a little go with the iCandy Apple in a shop today (still obsessed, even though I have the Buzz ) ? it has a narrower wheel base which I was of, and the basket is bigger. It also takes the Maxi Cosi car seat. Think I would have seriously considered this one instead if I had realised all of the above, however they do that ridiculous thing of not selling online and the shop I saw it in it was about £360 so more than £160 more than I paid for the Buzz. Sigh?. the obsession continues.

FestiveAtForty · 19/01/2007 21:45

good Buzz review

here

bewilderbeast · 20/01/2007 01:20

wish i'd seen that review before I bought mine - might possibly have chosen something else!

nappyaddict · 22/01/2007 00:33

why can't you buy the apple online?

slinkstar · 23/01/2007 00:16

i looked at the icandy the other day i was comparing it to the infinity and its at least 2 inches wider and its really heavy which put me off. I am defo getting the infinity- wish they had better colours though.

nappyaddict · 23/01/2007 10:51

have you looked at the i candy cherry - its a lighter version of the apple.

louloubelle · 23/01/2007 14:52

I too had the usual obsession with the rear facing buggy. I have a just 3 yo and a 9 months old, and used my Jane powertrack in pram mode with a buggyboard til he was 6 mo, then bought an icandy apple. The only negative is that I have been used to air filled front wheels, and although the apple has air filled back big wheels, it took a little getting used to going up and down kerbs with the small solid front ones. I have it permanently in 3 wheel mode, not 4. The other really good thing is that the handle comes out a really long way, so plenty of room for tall people with long strides to push even when buggyboard is on. Shopping basket is huge. Overall is a little heavy, but much lighter version coming out in March (cherry). Worth knowing that they are making some sort of toddler seat latyer this year for it too, allegedly.

meggiesmummie · 23/01/2007 18:30

Out of interest, babystyle make a stroller set of wheels for their pushchair and carrycots and you can also attach a Britax car seat. The seat/carrycot can be attached to face both ways. The chassis is umbrella folding but I can't work out whether you can fold it with the seat unit on. Looks very like M&P Pliko. Whizzy wheels have it on their website.

FirstAtForty · 23/01/2007 18:39

nappyaddict - I think (though I may be wrong) the reasoning behind not selling the icandy online is to maintain a brand exclusivity, in the same way that some upmarket brands of perfume etc won't supply the supermarkets because prices would be discounted and the brand's 'exclusive' image might get tarnished.

Load of pretentious nonsense when you apply that particular marketing strategy to a bloody pram FFS. They seem to have got a good product, shame they are deliberately keeping it at a distance from potential customers if the story is true.

misdee · 23/01/2007 18:43

yes thats right forty.

tinkerbellie · 23/01/2007 19:26

i saw any icandy on ebay for about £200 the other day!!
they now also sell it in my catologue (choice) but not on the internet one
i have given in and bought a bugaboo frog off ebay!! really liked the gecko when i had it in the summer and regretted selling it so have gone and got a frog instead as it has the bumper bar and is suppposed to be lighter!!

nappyaddict · 23/01/2007 20:20

why can't they just put it on the net but at the same price? it would be a lot easier for people who don't drive etc!

FirstAtForty · 23/01/2007 20:57

I think it's because that would make it seem more 'available' and therefore not so 'valuable'

Weird thinking really, do they really think most people choose prams in the same way they choose perfume or designer clobber?

Quite insulting really to assume that image comes first over function for us parents - a pram is something which absolutely has to work well for you, it's such a nightmare struggling with one which is badly designed or wrong for what you need to use it for. Grrrrr!

FirstAtForty · 24/01/2007 14:19

Misdee - if you're there, wanted to ask if it's the Hauck Infinity that you have recommended in previous posts? Kiddicare are doing a special offer at the moment, am tempted by the pushchair and car seat... could sell the Buzz... Ebay resale values aren't bad !!

PS DP would NOT be impressed though

bethoo · 24/01/2007 14:34

other rear facing pushchairs are:
Herqules Raptor3 Spin, Herqules Razor6 spin adn Traxx Jaguar 4 though i think one of them is doscontinued. i like them but could be rather pricey. i do loike the icandy cherry and looked at the link and put in the details. i hope they are not too pricey or hard to get hold of as my baby is due 1 march!!!
how hard is it to get what you want!!! i have a type in my head but cannot find one anywhere!
needs to be compact and light (do not drive) with strong durable wheels (for walking dogs!) and have choice of rear and forward facing!! anyone know of one that fits description?

misdee · 24/01/2007 14:35

hauck infinity is a good budget buy. i loved mine. it holds it value as well.

misdee · 24/01/2007 14:36

they also package it under hauck/i coo/jeep/little star i think.

the kiddicare one is a good deal.

nappyaddict · 26/01/2007 05:15

i like the traxx and the Herqules Raptor3 best.

nappyaddict · 26/01/2007 05:16

these were on my shortlist along with the mutsy. went for the mutsy cos of the go kart thing

bethoo · 26/01/2007 11:22

i think i may have to go for budget rather than what i ideally want! Babies R Us do cheap prams and stuff so will be there next month!

nappyaddict · 29/01/2007 13:22

how much can you afford you can get the traxx jaguar 4 for somewhere between £150 and £200 i think.
