What is a pervert?

I seem to recall two or three times in this bit of the board where folks have cruised by and used the word pervert, but when I have politely asked for a definition of the term/asked what they mean, the question has always been swerved. I have even been advised to google it, which to my mind seems dubious if not avoidant advice.

The term seems to be tossed around a fair bit, though usually I let it pass.

So what do the good folks of the sex board define the term as?

This is also an opportunity of course for those folks who have avoided questions to have their say and educate us.

Careful @Mermaidparades - you'll be accusing people of bullying soon

Everyone needs to stay on point. We don’t want to lose the thread with the examples and opinions from women, highlighting the perv problem.

@AllTheChristmasMovies the winky face doesn’t really disguise the mean sentiment behind your words. Ironically, you seem to think I’m a troublemaker. Presumably you have also seen me interact with posters who didn’t turn out to be creeps?

In any case, I was just posting in support of what @B1rd had written.

I've seen many of your genuine posts mermaid and reported posts on other threads of folk targeting you and trying to shut you up.

You see that's the problem, perv hunters don't stop at the alleged pervs they also attack genuine posters too. Bit like hapless troll hunters, they just can't tell the difference.

TheShellBeach · 06/12/2023 12:29

How can anyone tell the difference?

And what's a "perv hunter"?

I agree. If I was fairly new to mumsnet and wanted to post a genuine issue on this board, I’d want to read the contents of this thread first. Women come to mumsnet thinking they’re getting support and advice from mostly other women and should be aware that this part of mumsnet can be a very different experience.

BIWI · 06/12/2023 13:41

Being a perv and being a genuine poster isn't mutually exclusive though @Janiie.

Mermaidparades · 06/12/2023 14:46

@TheShellBeach i would interpret a ‘perv hunter’ as someone who reads the boards and decides someone is not being genuine about sex, whether in connection to their query or response.

I saw someone post recently about faeces coming out of their vagina. They were having their worst day ever and came to MN for support. Someone responded, claiming this wasn’t possible and what sort of a sicko comes up with this nonsense (or words to that effect). Unfortunately, prolapses are very real and distressing.

TheShellBeach · 06/12/2023 15:06

I cannot see why anyone would object to people who call out perverts.

TheShellBeach · 06/12/2023 15:10

"..............someone who reads the boards and decides someone is not being genuine............."

But that's just old fashioned troll-hunting.

Mermaidparades · 06/12/2023 15:16

in the process of calling out perverts you will call out innocent people though. Why not just report?

TheShellBeach · 06/12/2023 15:21

Mermaidparades · 06/12/2023 15:16

But that is exactly what I would do.
I would report anyone who I believed to be a troll or a pervert.
MNHQ is very clear about that. Troll hunting is against the TGs. I am quite sure that "Pervert hunting" comes under the same aegis.

Mermaidparades · 06/12/2023 15:22

@TheShellBeach then it sounds like you aren’t a perv hunter!

Great , finally we all agree that we would report anything to mnhq rather than call them out on thread (that is perv/troll hunting), because that is not ok you see and as we keep saying you manage to also accuse genuine posters in your quest. Which isn't nice is it?

TheShellBeach · 06/12/2023 15:31

........finally we all agree that we would report anything to mnhq rather than call them out on thread

I wasn't aware that we disagreed about this.

Graasspp · 06/12/2023 16:26

I exclusively report sus threads to mn. Never tell them off. Some men even wank to that

as women, we can't really win. Men fancy us. Some men think this is a good place to engage with us. Some women posters encourage them

(I did have to laugh when someone on a thread called "what do you find attractive on a women?" said big boobies. Up popped someone saying I am just your type then pick me. Only for original person to state they were a lesbian and the pcik me shut up )

Janiie · 06/12/2023 16:34

'as women, we can't really win. Men fancy us. Some men think this is a good place to engage with us. Some women posters encourage them'

Yes, yes this is true straight men do fancy women! This isn't a newsflash is it? If posters engage with others then so what, not sure that is 'encouraging them'.

Despite what some folk have suggested on other threads I am not a perv apologist but this board is absolutely tame and harmless and if a troll pitches up, as you say just report them and stand down.

TheShellBeach · 06/12/2023 16:48

.........but this board is absolutely tame and harmless

Not always.
Many women receive unsolicited PMs which upset them.

And it isn't acceptable to tell women to turn off their PMs.

That's as bad as telling women they were raped because they wore a short dress.

Poor male behaviour is not the fault of women.

porridgeisbae · 06/12/2023 17:58

I think it might be useful if this thread was always at the top of this board. Wink

Graasspp · 06/12/2023 18:33

I gave one example of the 'encouragement' - but there are other kinds.

Catullus5 · 06/12/2023 18:59

BIWI · 06/12/2023 11:35

There absolutely was an attempt to bully Mermaid. She was accused of being a child abuse apologist on the alleged basis that she hadn't reported a post (not by her) that some other people thought the post was suspect. This was thrown at her by a good few interlopers. Bringing such an accusation on such flimsy reasoning was either disproportionate or just plain cynical and the accusations were deleted by Mumsnet. Either way it was bullying and actually the most appalling thing I've read on this topic.

More appalling than reading stories of underage sex?

EverybodySayBigStretch · 06/12/2023 19:13

Then you have missed a lot of posts because there has been much worse that I hope mumsnet has contacted the police about.

Catullus5 · 06/12/2023 19:14

You have not been at all specific, but I think making such a serious and defamatory accusation on the flimsy and irresponsible basis I've described easily wins.

EverybodySayBigStretch · 06/12/2023 19:24

@Catullus5 CSA and those strongly alluding to it.

FriedOkra · 06/12/2023 20:09

Anything involving children are obviously the worst sorts of posts. I’ve reported a lot of those and they have all been deleted. The last one was only last month, a photo of a young boy with a perverted OP. Some of the regular sex board posters engaged, a couple made jokes about it. As soon as I reported it, it was deleted, why are regular posters not reporting things like that?

Graasspp · 06/12/2023 20:41

Perhaps they are. I prefer to report quietly, as I said some people like it if you tell them off.

This topic prevents users from posting on it until they have been members for at least 7 days.
