Thanks for starting the new thread. Finally feels like we are on the home stretch with fewer exams ahead than are behind.

I think DS quite enjoyed Physics today but it is one of his strengths and he is planning to do it for A level. He came home with a big grin after English Lit yesterday but that may have been partly because no more English Lit! Odd to think that after English Language tomorrow morning he will have no more English lessons ever (assuming he passes and doesn't have to resit!)

Thank you for the new thread @Rollergirl11
I really can't believe they only have a few weeks left!

DD said physics today was quite easy but others found it hard so she’s either done really well or really badly.
English tomorrow so of course the evening has been spent playing D&D online.

@Rollergirl11 thanks for new thread. Roll on the weekend...Eng Lang for DS tomorrow then another 5 exams next week. Last exam for DS & generally is on 27 June, they then have 6th form taster day on 28 June which seems bad timing given many students will be celebrating the end of exams the day before...

Dd said physics exl board (I forget the letters) was ok She managed to have a stab at every question. If she got them right or not is a different story of course

DD who is normally very conscientious with revising also maintains that you can't revise for English Lang.

DS only has 3 exams to go, biology paper 2 next week, chemistry paper 2 and physics paper 2 the week after. Hooray 😃

Popping on to join for today as DD resitting Eng Lang.

You can revise for it, but less so than for many subjects as it is skills based much more than knowledge based.

I've had DD rattling off the structure she needs to answer each question, and also what to do if the 19C text is incomprehensible. I would also have been covering language devices but it would make her too stressed.

My poor DD is not feeling well but not bad enough to stay at home. She's tired with a very sore throat (she gets them often) so is finding it hard to concentrate.
physics yesterday was a disaster. Just getting English out the way then she can rest over the weekend. Nearly there! Her last paper is on the 23rd then she's immediately off to Glastonbury festival.

Glad there’s a new thread 😀

DD had a night off revising last night which I’m glad about. She has 4 next week and 3 the week after so does feel we are on the home stretch.

DSD has English language tomorrow and is very happy to be done with English. She spent all yesterday evening tidying her room and doing laundry, I naively presumed she was keeping herself busy to keep her mind off the exam, but no apparently all her mates are coming round to chill for the afternoon before catching the school busses home.

Glad to have found people going through the same thing. Is anyone's DC accepting help with revision? Mine has done a lot in school, but not so much out of school as just too tired and stressed by it all. We have every revision guide going, but they're largely untouched and apparently I cannot use them to help or ask questions as the syllabus has changed so much due to covid. No guidance for parents from school re. revision. Feel as if DC is massively underachieving as I can't see them doing much traditional revision, but also don't want to put too much pressure on.

Agree it's a long haul for them this summer!

@Undertheoldlindentree, could it be that your dc is overwhelmed and therefore doesn't know where to start? If they're doing revision at school they might be too tired to do extra at home. It's a difficult one.

Ds went off early as there was a pre exam English session this morning. He hasn't done a lot of revision for Language. Looked over a few creative writing stories that he's hoping to 'adapt'!

Four exams Mon to Thurs next week then 3 in the last week, finishing on 23/6. D of E expedition the next day!

Thanks for the new thread @Rollergirl11 .

Have to say that when the GSCE AI guidance came out (was it in February?), I was hoping for greater clarity from school as much of what was written seemed wide open to misinterpretation. It seemed classic public sector -anything-but-plain-speak, designed to confuse.

DD thought the physics paper was better than the first papers for chemistry and biology but that might just be because she'd done more revision for it? It's not usually her best science.

@Undertheoldlindentree I managed to do about an hour's revision support with DD for biology 1 (she was in a bit of a panic) but otherwise she hasn't accepted any help. She hasn't used her revision resources bought at some expense at all either, or her exercise books! She's used online resources and little else.

Yesterday, she spent all of half an hour reminding herself of key points for article writing then settled down to watch 'Frozen' and the first few episodes of 'Conversation with Friends'.

DS just has paper 2 for all 3 sciences and Spanish writing left after today. Straight after Spanish on Friday we are going to see Queen at the O2 so can't wait for that. He has a busy weekend of sport and singing but no exam Monday so he will probably have the weekend off revising.

We have been so relaxed about it as no point in forcing him but now feeling worried he has been complacent. Found on our school account log in his end of year report this week, we were told it was there and it gave expected grades and also tips on what bits they needed to concentrate on individually each subject, really helpful when the exams are almost done! The expected grades are way better than expected in some subjects but I just can't see him getting those marks. It sounds like others are revising for hours, he reckons he is but I heard him on his guitar last night then when I went to bed at 11ish he was playing Fifa.

I do think the fact his school made them go in full time till this week has helped and they are still having to attend lessons for subjects they still have exams for so perhaps that structured revision is enough with a smaller amount at home.

Thanks for the shiny new thread

dd, who is usually panic struck before an exam (cries all the way to school in the car, says she’s going to be sick etc etc), was actually calm this morning. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing.

3 next week and 2 the week after, so definitely on the home run now thankfully!!

good luck for today everyone
