Yes to DD running out of steam. She’s just got back from her regular revision sesh at Caffè Nero with a friend and has told me she only managed 40 mins despite being there for 3 hours! They were planning festival outfits for Reading for the rest of the time! 🤦‍♀️😂

Hi all, 😭 I can’t log back into my original account so had to make another one.

I’ve got paper 3 on Monday, how are y’all’s DC feeling about it

chocolatenutcase · 11/06/2022 21:31

Edexcel A level maths paper 3 was leaked summer 2019. If affected my DD. She was really cross at the time but come results day all was forgotten. I'm sure it will be the same for our DC and the physics.

NicolasSarkozysCumDumpster · 11/06/2022 22:51

I’m off bed now, 7am start. How do u lots DC revise maths?

Nard75 · 11/06/2022 22:59

@NicolasSarkozysCumDumpster my DS2 mostly does past papers and the online platform that the school use.

TeenPlusCat · 12/06/2022 07:19

The day before the final exam, if my DD were resitting I would go through the revision guide just checking she knew the topics & any formulae they weren't giving in the exam, and spend time on actual questions focused on areas she was unsure about. Then maybe look at the back ends of papers at the grade 4&5 questions.

TeenPlusCat · 12/06/2022 07:20

Oh, and I would also make sure not to overdo it the day before so brain was well rested for 9am Monday.

Silkierabbit · 12/06/2022 08:53

Think next week is maths Mon, stats Tues, Wed biology and Thursday chemistry? and French writing then 5 the following week until 24th. My 10th chemo on Monday. For summer fair amount planned for DD, we have a family holiday in Cornwall in July and she is taking a friend, she has a summer job helping with punting tours, sixth form taster days, I finish my chemo then radio then hormone tablets start of September. Her boyfriend also has a swimming pool. Its DS I need to ensure more things for though have the family holiday and may just need to invite his friend for a sleepover or something like that. Also doing DDs room, got it cleaned and new flooring in so far. Getting a new bed (big enough for her and Maine Coon) then it needs another coat of paint then will be done.

Maths is her strongest one so not a lot of prep goes on for that or stats, its the science she will be preparing for and her worst is French writing as she has not had any lessons for French since y9. I think key at this stage is to try and be as relaxed as possible - our kitten is helping with that but its not easy. Maths I think is mainly practice, in primary I got both mine to use Mathletics www.mathletics.com/uk/for-home/ which has a free trial and they got way ahead using that and stayed ahead. It goes up to GCSE. It might help for practice if you don't have a teacher as it marks by itself and explains how to do things. Good luck Sarkozy

Rollergirl11 · 12/06/2022 08:57

Back on it today after an unproductive day yesterday! Only one more weekend of revision left before freedom!

DD deffo feeling like the end is in sight now though. She has exams every morning this week. But now with each exam done it’s a subject ticked off the list so finally feeling like making some headway.

Sorry Silkie are you saying she is sitting a GCSE in a subject she has had no lessons in for 2 years? How does that make sense?

Silkierabbit · 12/06/2022 09:16

It does not make sense to me Teen and I said no but school asked DD and she said yes - its because she has a French DH she has been offered it, he does not speak much French at home. Its also made it a very high quantity, 12 gcses and 1 level 3 but that was what she decided. She did spend a week in Paris staying with MIL at Easter but MIL only does food words.

Agree - especially when they are supposed to have completed the course and been fully prepared for the exam to ethically be entered. But I do see this often at my school with home languages and it never sits quite right with me.

QueenMabby · 12/06/2022 11:22

Found you all!! Thanks for the new thread.

DS seemed non-plus about the physics exam. I think it's probably because he's too lazy to read the AI and sort out what he does and doesn't need to revise and has just revised it all! Physics is his favourite though.

When I read the bit about the 9 marker I dashed downstairs to tell him. "Yeah. I know about that".

So why didn't you tell me??

"Doesn't affect you. Besides I figured you'd know about it anyway. And look. You do!"

Not very forthcoming my DS!!

He thought English went pretty well. Six left now - three this week and three next week. This week we will be very happy to see the back of Geography, Biology and Spanish!!

Following on from the AQA muck up this week, what are all yours doing about revising for AQA biology and chemistry? My DD has just asked if she should now revise everything...

Akite · 12/06/2022 12:07

My DD is now unwell and has spent the last couple of days in bed since finishing the exam on Friday. She was feeling rough at the end of the week but forced herself to go in. She doesn't seem bad enough to miss the exam but it's inevitably having an effect on her, she was worried she would pass out in one exam last week because she was so light headed. Don't quite know what to do about it.

LightlySo · 12/06/2022 12:14

@andwhy mine is not revising the content that specifically says will not be included but revising both minor and major included content the same

Yes - keeps happening recently. Very annoying!

I think Ds is going to just read over everything to be honest 'just in case'. It's a pain as he's tight on revision time this week. History taking up a lot of time as he seems to have forgotten a lot.

andwhy · 12/06/2022 13:21

My DD was also unwell last week. She did have to miss a few exams but went in for the ones at the end of the week. But she's still not 100% and has spent the weekend exhausted and sneezing. It's just the worst time for them to be I'll isn't it

Our teacher tried to palm us off with this - not due to French relative but because they were considered able to self teach.

LouisCatorze · 12/06/2022 13:32

I can see the point of doing a self-taught (or first language spoken at home) GCSE as an extra if you're only doing eight subjects but is it really necessary if one's already doing 11 or 12? What does it really add?

Sorry to hear that some DC haven't been feeling well. DD was quite poorly (thought it was COVID but she tested negative) just before the GCSE season started. They are all worn down and ready for a carefree summer!

NicolasSarkozysCumDumpster · 12/06/2022 21:03

Off to bed soon, good luck for tomorrow

NicolasSarkozysCumDumpster · 12/06/2022 21:04

Paper 1 and 2 were good, hopefully 3 will be the same

Silkierabbit · 12/06/2022 21:31

Yes the language thing is odd, especially when the family have said they don't really speak the second language at home. And when they do it distorts the languages grades so many bilingual students get the 8s and 9s. I think school want it as they know its a definite pass and in the mocks she got a 8 but they did not do a speaking mock. It does add a language but I think its too many to be taking but they left her to decide by herself and was what she wanted. I am not that bothered one way or another, if she's happy then fine. I think overall it will mean grades slightly down but more subjects but either way she will be fine for A levels so really does not make much difference.

Mr Floof is really growing and can now jump the baby gate over to rabbit in one leap. Though thankfully has stopped playing leap rabbit and the two just watch each other. Will be glad when this week is over and another chemo and 5 more exams done, have a lovely garden party on Saturday at May Bumps in Cambridge. Though am looking slightly trashed with chemo.
