My biggest fear for dd would be that she would run out of time for the English language exam as it’s so tight on time. She did finish today but it was a close call.

LouisCatorze · 10/06/2022 12:10

DD didn't think the English Language paper was great (and it's usually one of her strongest subjects!).

DD could be really clever if she put her mind (and effort) to it but she has a very slack attitude, although she assures me she's going to work hard for A Levels. We'll see.

I have no idea what Results Day will bring. She did much better in most recent mocks than the first ones, without doing discernibly more studying, so who knows? Some of it is down to luck at the end of the day.

iklboo · 10/06/2022 12:34

My son is NOT 17 in November. Uh-uh. No way. He's still 6!! .

I have no idea where the time has gone. Luckily my sweet, funny, loving, polite youngling has grown into a sweet, funny, loving, polite young adult. I just can't sit him on my knee for a cuddle anymore.

PaddingtonPaddington · 10/06/2022 12:35

DS thought English language was ok but not as good as paper one, but it’s done. So that’s 3 GCSEs completely finished with 16 exams done and 8 to go. DS having the rest of the day to relax and recover from a busy week.

4 exams next week with Maths and Business on Monday.

I think how much you as a parent are involved with revision depends on both yours and the DCs circumstances. Some DC ask for help, others are self sufficient, some need additional support, some don’t want it, some parents have lots of other competing responsibilities so may not be able to be so involved.

Naem · 10/06/2022 13:46

I really do envy those who are over the worst of it. If anything next week (if you don't count Friday as part of the week) is possibly the worst week for DD - she has six exams between Monday and Thursday afternoon, which included the dreaded clash on Thursday afternoon, which will be over four hours of exams in the afternoon. It is not even clear whether they are getting any kind of break (apparently there is one other DC at her school who also has the clash, and she also gets extra time, but they may make them go straight from one to the other). Goodness knows how she is going to concentrate for the second one.

Naem · 10/06/2022 13:48

Once next week is over, there are only 3 more, so 9 in total to go. That is more than half, but still, it doesn't feel we are on the downward roll yet.

Naem · 10/06/2022 13:48

more than half *done I mean.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 10/06/2022 14:15

7 more to go. English was "ok" - I can't get any more information than that. 4 next week and 3 the week after. Having a complete break now until tomorrow.

chocolatenutcase · 10/06/2022 15:11

AQA are awarding a full 9 marks to all students for the electricity question.

Current Year 11 - 2 more weeks of exams!!
LouisCatorze · 10/06/2022 16:36

Ha you beat me to it, @chocolatenutcase . That's good news but really awful that it was overlooked in the first case. I bet lots of people will have scrutinised that paper for errors and then there's a massive one hiding in plain sight!

CornishGem1975 · 10/06/2022 16:58

That's a good result.

LizzyButtons · 10/06/2022 17:31

Hello all. English went "ok, it was fine but almost run out of time and had to rush a bit at the end." Concerned about writing looking a bit rushed at the end. Oh well. Having a break tonight.

aramox1 · 10/06/2022 17:37

8 more for ds- that's not too bad. He says he's exhausted and is now gaming. What a week, 7 in 5 days. Sorry to hear of all the stresses. I've been so distracted I don't think I've been as present as I meant to be but that could be an asset from his viewpoint! Very determined not to be helped. So it's goodby to English now.

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 10/06/2022 18:26

DS delighted to be finished with English Lit and Lang. Just 6 to go for him and he is noticeably happier as they are getting ticked off.

As far as revision goes he won’t accept help other than once letting me discuss the poetry with him and watching Romeo and Juliet together. He exclusively revises by doing any tasks set by school plus past papers so doubt he has developed any revision technique as such but he improved his marks quite a bit between the first and second mocks so he feels his way is working for him. Leaving him to it now.

PeekAtYou · 10/06/2022 19:04

4 next week and 4 the week after here.

What a relief that the end is in sight ...

zighead · 10/06/2022 20:30

My DS has three next week and then four the week after. One of his friends only has one exam left!

Allotment123 · 10/06/2022 21:02

We had a terrible day, had massive anxiety attack and didn't write anything for English. So upsetting as they have tried so hard, did do paper 1 and school have been great. Exam Officer said they will write to the exam board and say they weren't fit to take it. Does that mean they would just assess paper 1? The paper had been opened. I phoned the school in tears this afternoon but didn't get to speak to actual exam officer...

chocolatenutcase · 10/06/2022 21:06

@Allotment123 oh poor you and your DC. It's so stressful for our DC and us. I have no wise words. Sounds like school and the exams officer know what that are doing. I just wanted to acknowledge your sadness Flowers

MirandaWest · 10/06/2022 21:07

I only saw DD very briefly as after English language she went into town with some friends and she’s gone to XHs house tonight. She did say the English paper was fine and better than paper 1.

caringcarer · 10/06/2022 21:24

DS has 5 exams to go. Found AQA Science Physics 1 very hard and upset because usually good at physics. Only questions he is confident of are equation and graph questions and a few easier ones apparently.

caringcarer · 10/06/2022 21:27

DS leaving school on June 24th. Then volunteering at Commonwealth Games as a net leg spin bowler for Ladies international cricket teams for 3 weeks. His school know he is going to college next year and not staying on to Sixth Form but is asking him to continue at school until July 19th. He told them no chance he will give up Commonwealth Games for more school.

coffeeandbiscuittime · 10/06/2022 21:34

For those asking about two doing GCSE's and A levels- I work full time in a pressured role ( in the NHS) I have for the first time in 30 years have taken time off with stress.
The positive for that is that my kids are less stressed than they were two weeks ago.
The child doing a levels is fine but is liking that I can take her in and pick her up. The one doing GCSE's suffers from anxiety and knowing I am around has reduced the anxiety.
Both kids are different - if I had only had the one doing a levels probably wouldn't need time off but I am glad I have a supportive boss.
It's been a tough few years for all of us ( wider population).
These exams are nearly over - and then let's enjoy the summer.

Allotment123 · 10/06/2022 21:38

Thanks @chocolatenutcase i know it's only 1 exam but sometimes it's just so hard to keep it all in perspective

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 10/06/2022 21:40

So sorry @Allotment123 sounds like the exam officer is on the case and if she managed to do paper 1 will likely still get a grade.

DS has 9 more exams to go, 5 next week and 4 the week after. He is pleased to be done with English. They are also doing a leavers assembly next Friday after the Spanish exam (science revision lesson for those not doing Spanish). The school had originally said that they were to continue to attend lessons between exams but by the second week of exams it was clear that students were not cooperating with that plan and they school relented and said study leave was allowed.

whenwillthemadnessend · 10/06/2022 21:43

@Allotment123

Your poor dd. My dd also has anxiety but has seen a therapist for that and another issue and has massively improved. I was very worried about coping through the exams but she has been ok so far. I hope the school and exam board will treat her fairly.

It's feels awful now but she will be able to move forward soon Flowers
