Trinity/Whitgift/Dulwich College 10+/11+ 2021

Hello,

as mentioned countless times, I found the previous years' threads very useful, so it is now time to start this year's.

DS sat the 11+ reasoning test at DC yesterday. He'll sit the morning slot at trinity and we are awaiting confirmation of assessment date from Whitgift.

DS is remarkably relaxed so far. I, on the other hand, am a little apprehensive about the next few weeks.

How are everyone else's DSs feeling before "the storm"?

Hello,

My DS will be sitting the 11+ morning test for Trinity, however, just received the email from Whitgift that he is due to sit the exam on the same day but the PM slot. I contacted Whitgift School who said DS should sit the exam at his first choice school and then contact the second choice school for a supplementary day for him to sit the exam.

morasmum · 22/11/2021 13:52

@Sayithowitisbaby , that sounds a little harsh since the 11th is shown as an alternative date on the website. I can only imagine how difficult it is the whole assessment process for the school, but the email you received feels unfair.
Also, they are from the same foundation, they now they are attracting the same community.

We got the same email from Whitgift but our clash is with Kings. The other schools have been lovely about clashes. We haven't actually been allocated an exam session from Whitgift yet so it will be interesting to see if they took my email into account or not.
Sayithowitisbaby · 22/11/2021 14:01

I know I thought the same it does seem unfair and now Whitgift will know they're second choice which makes me feel uneasy. Hopefully your DS will be given the 11th so that you're not faced with the same issue.

My DS is also very relaxed about sitting the entrance exams, although I'm sure on the day nerves will likely set in.

Sweetnhappy1 · 22/11/2021 15:04

Just got the email and we've been given the 11th so it looks like they did take it into account. Check your email, you may have something through.

Ahh glad they took your email into consideration and gave your son the 11th. They have said that I need to request a Supplementary date from the school which is second choice, which I have now completed.
morasmum · 22/11/2021 16:31

@Sayithowitisbaby
I still feel it is crazy they imply the people taking the second date do not consider the school their first choice.

In any case, hopefully you'll get the date that works best for your DS.

I agree with you.

We've just received our exam date for W (we aren't applying to T or DC). DS has done an interview at another school but this will be the first exam - it seems very close now!

MrsHGWells · 23/11/2021 19:14

@Sayithowitisbaby the Trinity and DC exams will be more challenging and demanding of your DS.

Choose based on your DS, do not allow the school playing mind-games with you. There is no perfect timing exams, children peak at different times and also grow tired throughout the process.

jac108 · 24/11/2021 21:32

Thank you for starting this thread. I have read the previous threads and have found them invaluable. My Ds will be sitting the 11+ Trinity test. How's everyone's Ds feeling?

Crispleaves · 24/11/2021 22:20

We are in the waiting to start phase. Planning for DS to sit the 10+ next year. For some reason I thought the exams were after Christmas

Seeline · 25/11/2021 09:19

@Crispleaves 10+ at Trinity is certainly early January. The 11+ used to be, but I think Covid measures mean that the y are spreading them all out a bit at the moment.

KillingEvenings · 01/12/2021 19:26

DS's exams start Friday and he seems pretty relaxed. I'm trying not to let on about my own stress but it keeps erupting in little outbursts. He doesn't have anyone else from his school applying to privates (that we know of at least) so feel bad that he's having to do this all on his own and know that other kids at the tests will have their friends there. Hey ho, he's a pretty resilient little guy so hopefully he won't get thrown by all this

morasmum · 02/12/2021 09:45

@KillingEvenings don't worry. He won't be the only one in that situation.

Good luck to all DSs sitting Trinity or Whitgift this Saturday!

Crispleaves · 02/12/2021 09:56

I think our DS will also be the only one at school applying. I don’t really want to mention anything to the other parents as it feels awkward. How have others navigated this?

Seeline · 02/12/2021 12:19

@Crispleaves We did 10+ at T and W 10 years ago!! DS was the only one from his school (state primary). We just kept quiet until we had accepted a place. DD did the 11+ for the grammars, and again we just kept quiet until after the day, when we saw lots of others from school waiting in the queue so that was easier.

DD will be on car park duty at T on Saturday - good luck to you all.

morasmum · 05/12/2021 18:15

DS was knackered after yesterday! He brought a letter from T confirming they will email parents on 10-Jan to tell whether or not DSs will be interviewed. I think that is a brilliant move, as the worst part is the waiting not knowing!

Quiet weekend and from tomorrow getting ready for the next. DC on Wednesday for him.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 05/12/2021 20:25

Really boring creative writing prompts and horrendous VR is what DS brought back with him.
Hot dogs were good though Grin

jac108 · 05/12/2021 20:54

The highlight for my Ds was watching Star Wars in the auditorium whilst they waited for everyone to arrive, also the Hot Dogs.
Im just happy he had a positive day.

morasmum · 06/12/2021 08:20

Yes! How did i forget! Definitely Stars Wars and hot dogs the highlight for DS as well.

suchnonsense · 06/12/2021 13:33

Hot dogs and Star Wars?! W only had Jaffa cakes, so that might be a disappointment if your DSs are doing W next weekend!

W1980 · 09/12/2021 11:45

Hi,

Just wondering when we think we’ll start to hear back for the T 11+. I see form last year (poss2019) they were sat beginning of January and in some cases results were in a few days after!

What do we think? this side of Christmas or maybe new year?

Thanks

morasmum · 09/12/2021 12:03

@W1980 the email they sent afer Saturday explained that they would contact everyone on 10 January to let them know whether or not they would be interviewed.

So the waiting is on until then!

W1980 · 09/12/2021 12:16

I see. Although it actually says you will get an email on the 10th if you are not successful. So I assumed the calls would be happening before that date as that’s how they inform the successful ones…
