previous thread here
This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread.

Similarly it should be recognised that the grades our children need/deserve/want will vary across the board. Please be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since I started first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. Going forward any new threads should have 'GCSE Summer 2020 Thread # : Corona Cohort' or similar in title just to make it easier to find. Not fussy about who starts those !

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) so we decided not to be exclusionary and stay right here in Secondary - at least until Mumsnet HQ chuck us out.

At the moment we are following a 'roadmap' out of lockdown, lots of lateral flow tests, vaccines and driving tests being booked.

Ooooh driving tests, how exciting - still waiting until DD is 16 and 9 mths so I can safely book her provisional license Smile

Well they've had 3 COVID tests at school and I assumed DD would come back today with the home testing ones but no Confused Guess they'll bring them back Wed after school ready to do Thursday morn anyone else going to do them mid evening so there's not the rush of doing them in the school morning rush.?

Hello all.

DD & year 10 DS had their second COVID tests at school today, one more to go this week then they’ll be bringing some home.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 15/03/2021 18:08

Thanks for the new thread @orangecinnamon.

We started LFTs at home last night for DD, DH and I, definitely best done when not in a rush. She brought hers home last week. DS has his last school one tomorrow and brings his home on Thurs. Hoping both schools want them doing on the same days.

orangecinnamon · 15/03/2021 18:25

We have LFT at work now ...I'm not going back until after Easter but they seem to want me to travel there, get a test, travel home then come in when all clear...all clear as mud.

Dd happily back at college after two tests last week , all wearing masks etc and DH jabbed on Wednesday.
We have had a summerhouse delivered ...Dd currently in it with her boyfriendHmm. It is supposed to be my writing retreat. DH keeps talking about 'listening to cricket' in there. Booking system is needed.

Thank you for the new thread @Orangecinammon🙂

Hopeful201 · 15/03/2021 19:26

Yes three LFT's here and now have them at home. First one to be done Tues eve.... They have said they want us to do them the night before games, as they travel on a minibus and guess there is close contact.
We are late to the party with driving lessons, but currently sorting out the provisional licence which we did on line but now have to do a paper copy.

Fiddlersgreen · 15/03/2021 19:55

Thanks for the new thread.
DS is on his week at home doing live lessons (they do alternate weeks) so his third LFT will be next Monday when he is back in college.

Oblomov21 · 15/03/2021 20:02

Thank you OrangeCinnamon.

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 20:31

DS had his first day back today and then the Southampton webinar which was very good.

AnneOfCleavage · 15/03/2021 20:33

Hopeful201 is there a reason you have to do a paper one after doing it online? Just wondering as new to this malarkey as have a summer born.

Thanks for the new thread Orange. Can't believe how quick we fill them up.

DD has done her 2nd draft of her personal statement today and has been told mocks are after Easter with further mocks towards end of summer term that are used for uni applications. Eek, it's all becoming a reality now.

Piggy did you get jabbed today?

Piggywaspushed · 15/03/2021 22:45

Tomorrow!

Zandathepanda · 15/03/2021 22:47

Blush just looked back on other thread and you are getting it tomorrow as you mentioned earlier today. I have entered Groundhog Day after a year of this. I now have no concept of time Grin. I remembered the year it was earlier but couldn’t remember the month!!

Monkey2001 · 16/03/2021 00:05

@Zandathepanda I have that problem too, time has taken on a very odd quality!

icanbewhatiwant · 16/03/2021 06:50

2 threads going at once.

My ds2 did his 3rd lateral flow yesterday. I think they are at home after that. Ds3 does his third today.

Anyone heard anything about theory tests? Ds has his booked 13th. But no idea whether it's going ahead. I have emailed and was told all tests are suspended until further notice. I know someone who had their practical booked on 15th. That had been cancelled.

sandybayley · 16/03/2021 07:12

Just spotted there is a new thread!

KingscoteStaff · 16/03/2021 07:47

DD has been asked to be on the student interviewing panel for potential new Deputy Heads!

We spent dinner last night thinking up real stinker questions!

ealingwestmum · 16/03/2021 11:13

Thanks for new thread orange
