ican, yes thanks. I've still have nothing from the new app. Nothing from the old app either.

I fear I am doomed re a driving cancellation, here in Surrey. Sad

icanbewhatiwant · 07/05/2021 21:18

@Oblomov21 that's annoying. I got at least 6 each day for Norwich. But who wants to live in Norwich? 🤣 (we don't we are 45 mins away) I took my test in Surrey, in surbiton. They say they will refund you if no test found. Are you hoping for soon? To start with we seemed to only get offered tests for a few days time. But then it auto booked a test in august.

Oblomov21 · 07/05/2021 22:20

ican, I'm autobooked. He's ready soon. ASAP. Dh taught him, clutch control, everything. Then, I've been taking him out twice a week since beginning feb. He's had 5 driving lessons.
I can't / can believe that no earlier dates are available pre end sept, here. My friend whose ds passed his theory this week, now says it's December.

I see very little cancellation opportunities. I suspect I'll be getting a refund of £19.99 from my first app, and £17.99 from my second app! Sad

Oblomov21 · 07/05/2021 22:38

Btw, I adore Norwich. All of Dh's 6 sisters ( yes really, Irish Italian catholics, who clearly had no tv😉) live in Nxrwich, Yarmxuth, Wymxndham, Frintxn, Cxlchester.

I love the whole area.

icanbewhatiwant · 08/05/2021 11:55

@Oblomov21 that is annoying. Something might come up. You could try emailing the app people. They reply quite quickly. I had a problem setting it up, it kept saying Ds didn't have a test booked. So I emailed. They replied within the hour.

Monkey2001 · 08/05/2021 15:51

Tests available 12th-15th October in Barnet if that is any good for anyone. Good thing our DC are in Y12 and have plenty of time, I am really grateful I got Bodmin for DS1, it must have been because they released some extra slots!

Monkey2001 · 08/05/2021 15:55

...... also 29/9 to 8/10 in Cowley and a few in Wales. I don't know how you find one near home, are new dates released at midnight? Need to get on the case so that if DS2 passes theory I know how to get a test slot.

ProggyMat · 08/05/2021 16:27

DD has delivered her EPQ presentation, had it bound and handed it in.
End of year exams are in two weeks time, under formal conditions.
Is anyone else thinking ‘where has Yr12 gone’?

icanbewhatiwant · 08/05/2021 16:41

@Monkey2001 we have used the paid app. but when it kept offering tests that were too early for us (always in the next 2 days or so) they were sent random times throughout the day. I'd usually get a few sent early at 7am then just odd ones throughout the day. A friend of mine without the app kept refreshing the dvsa page as she was off work, but each time a test came up she'd click to book it and it would be gone. I guess it depends whether someone has cancelled a test and that comes up, or whether the test centre adds more slots.

icanbewhatiwant · 08/05/2021 16:44

@ProggyMat Ds doesn't know yet whether he has more exams this school year. I think they only have 9 more school weeks left. It has gone very quickly. My year 7 says he's not ready to be a year 8. Even worse for the older years I think.

ProggyMat · 08/05/2021 19:14

@icanbewhatiwant DD has 7 more school weeks left- Shock
Her end of year exams will shape her UCAS predicted grades.
Up to now, her ‘attainment’ grades have been very good and comments in her written report suggest her CAGS from her ‘old school’ are on par with her ‘new school’ in regard to the standard of work that is expected in the’ jump from GCSE to A level subjects’.
That said, given what our Corona Cohort have been through, it would be nice to have some ( predicted) ) scores on the board Grin

icanbewhatiwant · 08/05/2021 19:33

@ProggyMat ours finish 20th July. Feels quite a way away yet. But I'm sure it'll be here quickly.

Yes same here for predicted grades. Ds has been doing mock exams, but thinks there are still more to come in June. No timetable given for more though, only the ones he's currently doing now.

ProggyMat · 08/05/2021 19:50

@icanbewhatiwant 6th July for DD.
End of year exams are in two weeks time, full timetable given and study leave for that week.
Exams will cover the full Yr12 syllabus.
Then it’s ‘downhill’ to the end of Yr12!

EwwSprouts · 08/05/2021 19:56

DS yr12 exams are after half-term. Just one paper per subject and anything in yr12 syllabus fair game. Hoping school let them know grades before the summer holidays. We had a grades sheet a few weeks back but they basically said grades were unchanged from before xmas as no new evidence to justify movement.

PaddingtonPaddington · 08/05/2021 20:13

DDs exams not until last 2 weeks of June with a results day in July. I’m assuming that this will include results and predicted grades (she has current grade and target grade for year 12 from progress reports).

Scary how little time is left of year 12.

KingscoteStaff · 08/05/2021 20:21

DD has exam week straight after half term. These inform predictions. They can retake in early Sept in an attempt to raise a prediction.

Votes are in - she is a school prefect but not head girl/deputy. A lot of determined smiling and ‘I’m really happy for her, she deserves it’ being forced out through gritted teeth...

ProggyMat · 08/05/2021 21:00

@KingscoteStaff same here, revisions can be made in early autumn term.
Well done to your DD!
Nail varnish is much more therapeutic than gritted teeth...

icanbewhatiwant · 08/05/2021 21:25

@KingscoteStaff well done to dd.

I'm sure ds's school are getting them to collect AS results in envelopes in august, to make it feel real. Though obviously they aren't real AS level grades. That was the original plan. But it may have changed.

KingscoteStaff · 08/05/2021 21:28

@ProggyMat we had a special trip to Rymans today for the Special EPQ Presentation Binder (which as any fule kno lifts grade by at least 10 points).

ProggyMat · 08/05/2021 22:21

@KingscoteStaff DD used the school library binding service. Shock
I tried to steer her towards Staples where I had my UG dissertation bound many, many moons ago but she wasn’t having any of it!

Zandathepanda · 08/05/2021 22:31

Does Staples exist anymore?
Older Dd use staples for her EPQ but of the stapler variety Grin.
Current Year 12 aren’t allowed in the library at Dd’s school as it isn’t in their zone - which is basically the Maths corridor.

ProggyMat · 08/05/2021 22:41

@Zandathepanda a quick google search suggests so Grin
DD is fortunate in that the library is in the Yr12 zone

Zandathepanda · 08/05/2021 23:29

Oh good I loved Staples! It must be our ‘local’ branch that closed then - I thought they’d all gone online.

ProggyMat · 08/05/2021 23:53

A quick google search suggests all ‘local’ branches have gone online @Zandathepanda
Perhaps that’s why DD wasn’t having any of it Grin
Surprisingly, the local shop that bound my PG thesis is still alive and kicking despite being an independent!

Zandathepanda · 09/05/2021 00:02

Ahh thought so - I used to love a good rummage round Staples. Second only to Waterstones! We live quite a way from the nearest city and when Dds had city activities I would take myself off to them - never clothes shops!
