Thanks Ellen I see that now.

Sostenueto · 23/05/2018 19:11

You learn something new every day in this threadGrin

EllenJanethickerknickers · 23/05/2018 19:12

In AQA science there are set topics covered in each paper. Physics has 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and 4.4 in paper 1 and the rest in paper 2. Not sure about other boards.

Nettleskeins · 23/05/2018 19:14

mmzz I think it is the last reading of the Farmer's Bride. But I think he is v keen on her but out of his depth.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 23/05/2018 19:15

You can still switch from triple to combined. But it would depend on whether your school allows it and there might be timetabling problems. You would need to switch classes.

Sostenueto · 23/05/2018 19:16

rosie I am sorry nothing was meant by it. So yep cheers to youFlowersWine

Cherryburn · 23/05/2018 19:17

slinkyme there's no guarantee but if big topics haven't come up in Paper 1 there's a good chance they will in Paper 2. It would be worth looking over the stuff that didn't come up, just in case. If only we had a list of what was/wasn't on the paper!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 23/05/2018 19:17

Probably enough science for today, Sost. I'll shut up now. Blush Grin

wineoclockthanks · 23/05/2018 19:17

Just asked DS about that question bionic and he said 'yeah, couldn't remember the formula for acceleration due to gravity'!!

Sostenueto · 23/05/2018 19:21

cherrybun just what dgd said this afternoon that she had better remember topics for paper 2 that were not on paper 1.!

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/05/2018 19:22

The structure and grading of the different science combinations sounds so complicated that understanding it is almost worth a GCSE in itself.

BlueBelle123 · 23/05/2018 19:22

Oh thanks Ellen at DS's school they were told they wouldn't be able to switch and DS knows of a couple who are now doing foundation on one of the sciences, so it was me puting one and one together and making 5 Grin

hmcAsWas · 23/05/2018 19:24

I agree with TheSecond above ^^

I now have a headache!

Sostenueto · 23/05/2018 19:24

Ellen don't shut up you explained end it very well and I learned something I didn't know. I think if your school does a certain system you think all do ( well at least I did) so now I know different. I'm always Willi g to learn.Smile

hmcAsWas · 23/05/2018 19:25

Almost looking forward to discussing maths tomorrow now

EllenJanethickerknickers · 23/05/2018 19:25

Second, a bit like needing a degree in maths to understand the mixing up of modules to get the optimum maths and FM A level grades. Sadly ending this year as maths goes on to the non-modular system.

LooseAtTheSeams · 23/05/2018 19:26

I could be wrong but in the Farmer's Bride, the idea is that the marriage wasn't consummated - the girl was very young and scared and she tried to run away. The farmer is obsessed with his longing for her.
It's an odd one!
Don't try to predict which poems they've chosen, that way madness lies!

Sostenueto · 23/05/2018 19:26

Sorry about typos.

hmcAsWas · 23/05/2018 19:26

In all seriousness you were very informative EllenJane, but complicated innit?

AlexanderHamilton · 23/05/2018 19:27

Anyone can take triple science at dds school as it’s a separate option block. It also means as a pp said that if like my ds you are awful at one science (in his case biology) you can do foundation in that science but higher in the others.

Triple science is just shorthand for saying separate sciences each worth 1 full GCSE.

Sostenueto · 23/05/2018 19:28

War and conflict for dgd. Oh and An inspector calls.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 23/05/2018 19:28

Sost I've worked in science in 2 schools and my DSs have gone to 2 other schools so I've seen a variety! And actually got a lot of info from MN over the years. Smile

Sostenueto · 23/05/2018 19:29

Or should that be power and conflictBlush think I will sit back and listen for a bit!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 23/05/2018 19:33

DS3 doing Power and Conflict poems and DNA play. Probably his least favourite exam.

TheSecondOfHerName · 23/05/2018 19:34

In AQA triple science Physics, Chemistry and Biology the different papers examine different topics, as EllenJane said.

Physics Paper 2:
Forces & moments
Velocity & acceleration
Momentum
Pressure
Waves, sound
Electromagnetic spectrum
Light
Electromagnetism
Space

Chemistry paper 2:
Rates & equilibrium
Hydrocarbons & fuels
Organic reactions
Polymers
Tests for ions & gases
The atmosphere
Water resources
Metal extraction
Haber process
Fertilisers

Biology paper 2:
Nervous system, brain, eye
Homeostasis
Hormones
Menstrual cycle
Fertility
Plant hormones
The kidney
Reproduction
DNA
Genetics
Variation
Genetic engineering
Cloning
Evolution
Extinction

The above lists are for AQA triple sciences (higher)
