I think we are all using these threads to say all the things we can't say to our DC's faces & picking up all the snippets to pass back to them too weasel. I don't think anyone thinks you're anymore self obsessed than any of the rest of us.

sandybayley · 22/05/2018 21:13

I've noticed a positive change on DS1. He's in a good mood and is being nice to his siblings - who in turn are bring nice to him. I think he has a sense of purpose. I hope we get the same family harmony in summer 2020 when we'll be facing A levels and GCSEs.

On the subject of thread titles I suggest 'Who the f**k is Banquo?'

Physics tomorrow for DS1 but he's watching Westfield with DH. He feels like he is over the 'hump' today after : days of 2 exams. Then Maths and English Lit on Friday. I will have a discussion with him about Banquo I think!

Stickerrocks · 22/05/2018 21:19

Or "For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and who is Banquo"

sandybayley · 22/05/2018 21:21

@Stickerrocks much more poetic than my crude effort!

Stickerrocks · 22/05/2018 21:24

I didn't want the non-Macbeths to feel left out!

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 21:33

teenmum am near Norfolk!

Dgd has not smiled in a while but am proud she is holding it together ( apart from needing sickbag on way to school this morning) . sickbags I'm used to when she used to be a swimmer. She always threw up before a meet! We thought after year 10 mocks she would suffer badly but year 11 mocks hardly a tear just over English and a few sickbags. Now the real thing, tears occasionally no sick till today (but I was prepared!) And getting braver every day, controlling her emotions and growing up under extreme pressure that they are all under. She won't analyse much after exams in case she finds out she did something wrong. But the big lesson she is finally learning through all this is that you do not have to be perfect and are not expected to be and its fine to make mistakes. We only ask she tries her best.

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/05/2018 21:34

sandybayley I'll be joining you on the 2020 support thread: one doing A-levels and twins doing GCSEs.

HesMyLobster · 22/05/2018 21:36

Well done to all the Geographers! Sounds like it went pretty well for most.

The nerves are ramping up here.
Tomorrow is DD's worst day so far I think:
Psychology (A level choice so the pressure is on!) and physics (worst subject in mocks)

She is secure as she can be in Psychology- she loves it so has revised it continuously since yr10 and read around a lot! So only worry is that she makes a daft mistake, or there's a crazy curveball question.

She's been slogging away at Physics since she got home from this mornings exam.

She knows the formulas and facts inside out, but it's applying them she's not so sure on.
So past papers and more past papers are the obvious answer.
But School have only supplied a single specimen paper and we just can't find any more online with relevant questions.

Does anybody know of any? It's AQA triple Higher.

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 21:36

Give u a 9 stickerocksGrin

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 21:38

Dgd only got a couple if practise papers for physics too.

sandybayley · 22/05/2018 21:40

@TheSecondOfHerName - It's a date. I should also have DS2 doing a Year 10 GCSE (French) but I wonder if the school will reconsider by 2020.

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/05/2018 21:42

AQA has only released one set of specimen papers for Physics, which is a bit rubbish really.

brainmelt · 22/05/2018 21:43

sandy and kingscote so both chose the Bronte? Interesting. DS chose the Larkin poem on trees...

EllenJanethickerknickers · 22/05/2018 21:44

I think there are 2 specimen paper series but one was only released very recently. It was originally being held back for mocks. I don't have a password for the AQA site but it might be worth another look.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 22/05/2018 21:47

Sorry, it looks like the other specimen series is still in the teachers only area.

Stickerrocks · 22/05/2018 21:49

Edexl sciences here. Tell her to go to bed, read a book and not to worry as everyone is in the same boat.

DD's physics teacher has been discussing the likelihood of 9s with the top set. He has sensibly reminded that in a year group of 250 there would typically be around 5 grade 9s, if the year group was typical of the rest of the whole cohort. Therefore anyone claiming that they will be disappointed if they don't get straight grade 9s really should have a reality check, because last year's year 11s only managed to get a grand total of 5 grade 9s in English & maths. Therefore I will accept *Sost's grade 9 that she has awarded me with good grace and sincere thanks.

Oratory1 · 22/05/2018 21:50

Mmzz as a maths whizz he probably just remembers numbers more than words or concepts ?

BlueBelle123 · 22/05/2018 21:51

DS has already taken himself off to bed, he did about an hour of physics but thinks he should be ok - its an A level choice so pretty competant at it.

He also seems alot calmer this week and doesn't have that slightly dazed look that he was coming home with last week.

Glad to hear that on the whole todays exams have been ok.

No need for a thread title we'll be full by Friday.....its maths on Thursday Grin

Teenmum60 · 22/05/2018 21:51

HesMyLobster - Maybe look at different exam boards ..there is only so much you can examine at GCSE level - the link below will give you all the past papers for IGCSE...(my Dd seems to think that its only Space that requires more knowledge in the AQA exam although she is doing IGCSE)
