Thats what my ds did at A level geography

He answered glacier questions based on a school trip to iceland!!!

TeresasGreen · 22/05/2018 17:49

DD says that geography she really feels she messed up her timings, but at least she answered all the questions, which most of her friends didn't manage. English, she says was fine, which is all i'd hope for really, because it was the one she was dreading the most.

Wonderwine · 22/05/2018 17:53

When DS was revising his poems yesterday we realised there were 2 of the 18 that he didn't do in class as he was off sick. I convinced him to watch some teacher videos explaining them and we went through them together and discussed the printed notes etc.
One of them was the set poem today, so he was well chuffed! Smile They were both about war, so he also used the other one as his comparison!
He thought it was rather ironic though that nothing he spent a term studying ended up being used! (Although the analysis skills were, obviously.)

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 22/05/2018 17:54

Dd did aqa eng lit and was happy with both r&j and acc questions. In geography she did wjec. She thought it was quite an easy paper. Only 3 8 markers. The only one she didn't know was the difference between attrition and abrasion. All in all a successful day. She's exhausted now though. Not sure much physics will be happening.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 22/05/2018 17:56

Re answering all 13 instead of 2. Officially they just mark the first two and ignore the rest. Hopefully they'll be a bit kinder. Definitely only 2 questions will count, though.

DS3 found AQA English went 'surprisingly well.' Shock He liked the R & J question but found the Arthur Conan Doyle one harder, about the inadequacy of the police force.

No geography here, history instead after half term. Onwards to physics tomorrow.

idsisatwat Thinking of your DD

LooseAtTheSeams · 22/05/2018 17:59

DS has a bit of a wobble when he saw the Macbeth question before he realised he could answer it. Geography went ok.

Dreamgirl1000 · 22/05/2018 18:00

DD is nearly halfway through the exams. I wonder what to do with all the textbooks, workbooks etc. that are piled in her bedroom and that she would not need in two weeks time. I bought lots of extra material.
It would be a shame to throw them away.
Would anyone want them? Her exam boards are mostly IGCSE Edexcell, the old syllabus, but I recon they may still be useful for extra practice.
Please PM me if you want them.
Her extra subjects are Mandarin, Geography, History of Art.

Cherryburn · 22/05/2018 18:04

Don't suppose anyone else's DC did Edexcel IGCSE Geography (the 3 hour paper)? Just heard from DS and he said it was incredibly difficult.

wineoclockthanks · 22/05/2018 18:09

OMG, one of DS classmates couldn't answer the Animal Farm question so answered one from another of the books as he'd 'read it once in Year 9' !!

Leeds2 · 22/05/2018 18:10

If nobody wants them Dreamgirl, try your local charity shop. A couple near me have crates of them after results day in August, and they are always very popular purchases by parents of the next lot of examinees!

sandybayley · 22/05/2018 18:11

Now caught up with DS1.

CIE English Lit was 'ok' and 'could have been a lot worse'. Poem was a Bronte one 'about the futility of grief' (his words). My Antonia question 'a bit weird but OK'.

CIE Geography 'not brilliant but OK'.

Onto Edexcel Physics tomorrow...

hmcAsWas · 22/05/2018 18:20

Agghh - so frustrating CeeCee

mmzz · 22/05/2018 18:22

I've been thinking the same, Dreamgirl1000, except in my case, almost everything will go straight to DS2.

The year 9 parents at your DC's school would be the obvious answer. Maybe the PTA organise a 2nd hand book sale to make money for the school? Otherwise a charity bookshop. Or try to sell them on eBay, but if they are out of date, it might be difficult to find any takers.

loose yes please that's what I meant and thanks!
mmzz AQA as far as I know for geography, definitely 6 markers in there as well as 9s, + 3 for spag.

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 18:29

We are donating all books, revision guides, extra books etc that I bought and maths and English flashcards dgd hardly used preferring her own, to the children in care at the school.

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/05/2018 18:29

I'm hoping to be able to pass some of the revision guides on to DD and DS3 (Y9).

The ones that aren't relevant for them (subjects they aren't doing or different exam boards) I'll advertise on Facebook (for free) as plenty of my friends have Y9s and Y10s.

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/05/2018 18:30

Sostenueto that's a good idea.

mmzz · 22/05/2018 18:32

Sost DS is Edexcel for geography and your DGD is AQA. Its a coincidence then that they both found the papers extremely time consuming. Looking on the bright side - at least they both had something to write about. It would be worse to sit in the exam and see the questions but have no clue as to the answers.

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/05/2018 18:32

DS2 will be halfway through his GCSEs by this time tomorrow; if you go by number of exams. The last few are quite spread out though.

Nettleskeins · 22/05/2018 18:38

ds has dyslexia and asperger's. He gets extra time. Coursework for him is very difficult because it is so open ended, he struggled with the Drama portfolio. I know what it is like to have a child with dyslexia taking exams.

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 18:43

mmzz yes glad for both your D's and my dgd but dgd a little bit, no, a lot peeved because she really wants that 9 and feels on that paper, though she answered all, she had to rush and maybe not answer fully like she usually does. She got incredible marks on her mocks which she said was difficult, (99%) but not so many high value questions. She feels she will definitely not get that on paper 1.

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 18:45

The exam boards expect too much in my mind in only 90 minutes. Mini essay writing x a lotAngrySad

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 18:46

Got to charge fine be back in a bit x
