I still have one of my degree texts which I bought in 1989 and I still quote from it in class. Johnson Scholes have a lot to answer for.

Macbeth good, J&H OK after a last minute flurry of activity, Geography hasn't been mentioned except when she told DH that there were no questions on Oxbow lakes. Tennis, then physics now.

KingscoteStaff · 22/05/2018 18:49

DS liked the Emily Bronte question, and (predictably) went for the extract question on Secret River.

OCR Geography was 'ok' - great delight that an obscure piece of knowledge on Arctic flora came up!!

Head down for Physics now - the one he's dreading...

Oratory1 · 22/05/2018 18:56

Ooh hadn’t thought about books - charity shop sounds a good idea. When DD1 did a levels and DD2 gcse s at the same time they had a ceremonial burning of notes and all DS talks about is his ceremonial burning at the end of exams. Asked me on the way home if he s allowed to burn his copy of Of mice and men 😀

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 19:01

Glad that all DC survived today! Everyone of our little Stars deserve some Cake a d parentsGin!

Teenmum60 · 22/05/2018 19:19

Seems like everyone had a good or reasonable day..

I'm going to donate the current revision books to the school for use by anyone who is on a bursary (DD stated that the girl who has a full bursary was having to use full-text books for revision), so hopefully, they will be appreciated.

I'm off to work in the IOW for a few days tomorrow...which I usually enjoy but I think this trip will be less enjoyable given DD has Physics and Maths exams whilst I am away.

Roll on Friday so the DC;'s can have a breather...

Stickerrocks · 22/05/2018 19:23

Time to get our thinking hats on, as this will be post 931 or 932. We need inspiration for the sub title of thread 9.

Stickerrocks · 22/05/2018 19:27

Teen wave at us south-coasters as you head towards the ferry & remember the Island Roads Are Different as the signs say.

calzone · 22/05/2018 19:30

mmzz.....ds says they were told a bazillion times about choosing the right question and that anyone answering all the questions will get 0 as the examiner won’t know which one they should have answered.

Teenmum60 · 22/05/2018 19:33

Will give you a wave @stickerrocks - I love the IOW - lucky that work allows me over there 3/4 times a year - the pace of life suits me.

mmzz · 22/05/2018 19:34

Is anyone seeing a difference in their DCs? I see two changes in DS1: he's a lot calmer and more resilient than I've ever seen him before. Basically, a lot more grown up. That's the good one.

The bad one is that he just doesn't have the ability to absorb info that I'm used to. He used to have an incredible memory. Eg he noticed lots of election posters in 2013 and asked me what Labour/ conservative/ libdem/ UKIP all were. So for a little while he had an interest in politics (age 10). Then the Eastleigh by-election happened because Chris huhne went to prison. DS saw the result on TV and still remembers the % and number of votes each party got. With that sort of memory, you'd think he would easily remember seismic waves, but he is upstairs right now revising it now for the second time this week.

Pimms, cake and poetry for next threads title! ( blimey we filled this thread ultra quick)

Nettleskeins · 22/05/2018 19:36

gosh now I know what a foul mood dd is in when an exam goes badly...I hadn't realised just how invested she was...maybe I am just being naive, but I thought I had instilled in her that you don't need to be perfect. I think it wouldn't have mattered if everyone else hadn't understood the question and high fived when they came out. She had to write on Mystery and Suspense in Dr Jekyll and just couldn't remember how to analyse the text in detail. And worse still she forgot to put in Duality of Nature aargh (her aargh not mine)

Geography (Edexcel I think?) has gone very well (considering she hates it) she said, but she too ran out of time and missed an 8 mark question. She said she was very very glad that Tectonic Plates did not come up.

thread title: what about "we've dropped our Tectonic Plates and picked up Velocity" Grin

mmzz · 22/05/2018 19:37

Only one week is how long it lasted.
GCSEs 2018 (9) The one with half-term would be my suggestion

mmzz I've noticed the same with ds2, the "facts" are receding, but the ability to infer is increasing, as if connections are being forged in his brain all the time. I like it!

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 19:39

Its stress mmzz it wipes their brains I'm sure!

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 19:40

Physics tomorrow afternoon so lay in for me! Dgd is not fond of physics, not because she can't do it, but because it bores her senseless, except space which she loves.

Stickerrocks · 22/05/2018 19:41

Teen Head to Bluebells at Briddlesford if you get the chance and happen to be passing.

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/05/2018 19:41

DD2 will get all of DD1's books next year. She's had a look at some for her year 10 exams. There was a reason I had them so close together, I must have been thinking this far ahead at the time.

Banquo and boiled carrots should feature somewhere in the next title. :)
I'm so glad I joined this thread, I have 4 years of this, DD1 GCSEs, DD2 GCSEs, DD1 A levels, DD2 A levels... No Easter breaks for a very long time.

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 19:43

Ghouls, monsters and exam gremlins another alternative for thread title.

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 22/05/2018 19:45

theimpossiblegirl

We had/have similar

Gcse
As levels
A levels
Gcse
Gcse
A level and degree
A level

7 years

Apparently ds2 isn't grateful enough to dd for her old flash cards

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/05/2018 19:45

DS1 hated Chemistry with a passion. As soon as his Chemistry GCSE was over (while I was still at work) he took his Chemistry exercise book out on the patio and burned it.

This would have worked well for paper/card, but the book was covered with sticky-backed plastic, which melted into a blue mark which still decorates our patio to this day.

Stickerrocks · 22/05/2018 19:45

Loving the suggestions so far. TK Maxx were selling a Friends T-shirt this morning mmzz. I had to pick up a yoga mat for DD's physio amd nearly came out with Radley suitcase. Is anyone else finding that this GCSE malarky is playing havoc with their spending? I seem to be spending a fortune on prom accessories and concert tickets to make up for my lack of involvement in the actual exams.

Teenmum60 · 22/05/2018 19:45

Stickerrocks - Bluebells at Briddlesford Grin ideally placed given I am working in Newport!

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 19:46

My two dd just 15 months apart and my aren't I glad they didn't do current format of GCSEs! ( aged 36 and 37)

RosieLig · 22/05/2018 19:46

Anyone do OCR English Lit? It was the modern text (Animal farm) and the 19thC Jane Eyre today. He seemed relatively happy but I’m a bit worried he’s not answered one of the questions properly from what he said but I’m saying nothing!

Edexecel Geography was OK but some big mark questions which he struggles with. He sounded like he knew his stuff though so fingers crossed.

Currently got physics tutor round and I’m hiding upstairs!! Grin He still hasn’t learnt his equations Shock
