Lots of 6 markers on geography paper.

JufusMum · 22/05/2018 15:29

DD just texted to say there was literally NO spec in the OCR Geography paper and she probably only got a 5, probably teenage hyperbole but I shall find out more later.
DD sat Eng Lit last year and I was very anti at the time as she was just 14 (summer baby) and I thought she was not old enough to deal with it.
Having said that I'm now glad she did it last year, really feel for the DC's who had Geog and Lit today, there is so much to remember for Lit.

cubscout · 22/05/2018 15:30

Phew, quick call from ds, English Lit OK, happy with Romeo and Juliet question and 'ok' with CC.
Happy with geography paper.
I was worried about today - most stressful day this week! He's ok about Physics and Maths (has consistently been a 9 in Maths all this year) so today was definitely the most potentially stressful of the week.

Hope all other dc feeling positive.

Sunnyshores · 22/05/2018 15:31

any news on todays Geography IGCSE paper 2?

hardheadedwoman · 22/05/2018 15:33

Yes Sunnyshores I’ve had feedback that it was good no unexpected type questions on the IGcse geography this morning

JugglingFromHereToThere · 22/05/2018 15:48

As usual DS hasn't told me much at all, but apparently they were OK.

In R&J question about Juliet's parents attitudes to the younger generation DS managed to talk about iambic pentameter and blank verse and say that Capulet's use of blank verse in the last couplet ( rather than iambic pentameter) showed how angry he was with Juliet refusing to marry Paris.

So, I was rather impressed by that and hope the examiners are too!

No idea how Geography went for him except apparently rainforests came up which sounded good as we watch a lot of Attenborough and he must have been able to come up with something. Of course probably similar for everyone but you feel relieved if you know they could write something!

hmcAsWas · 22/05/2018 15:49

Nettleskeins exams seem a thousand times fairer? I'd have to (rather vehemently) disagree - they are grossly unfair to students with dyslexia

hmcAsWas · 22/05/2018 15:52

Meh - buts its true - no exam suits everyone Grin

hmcAsWas · 22/05/2018 15:55

Just reviewing todays posts - it looks like everybody seems to have got through either Geography or English Lit or both relatively unscathed? If so - its a good day.

Sostenueto · 22/05/2018 16:22

Direct quote from dgd about geography " in order to obtain at least 90% I would have needed another 20-30 minutes on that exam to ensure that every 6,9 and 12 marker were answered fully enough and there were plenty of them!. It was a joke to have to write more in a geography paper than an English lit paper which was alloted more time. Having said that I answered all questions and there were no questions I could not answer so you could say an OK paper except for the time issue"
English lit summed up by her as ' a gift because at least I could write something sensible'. I did warn her to glance through 'Tissue' as Aqa will want to ruin good feeling about paper 1. Her answer is not printable!GrinGrin

areyoubeingserviced · 22/05/2018 16:29

DD did AQA English Lit
She was really happy about the question on Banquo and Macbeth and the supernatural because we discussed it in depth yesterday evening .

Rufustheyawningreindeer · 22/05/2018 16:31

areyou

Dds oarting shot to me this morning was

I just pray there isnt a question on banquo

Soooooo.....

BlueBelle123 · 22/05/2018 16:43

DS also did AQA Eng Lit, he can't tell how he did but he's really glad its over!
Geography was geography apparently - whatever that meansConfused

mmzz · 22/05/2018 16:44

Which exam board is your DGD DOING FOR geography, Sostenuto?
DS is home from his AQA geography paper 1, and also commenting on the large number of questions, but I'm sure he said that there were 3 8 markers and that's all.
Strange if they are doing different papers, from different boards, but but reporting that time was an issue.

mmzz · 22/05/2018 16:49

DS wasn't thrilled with AQA English lit. He didn't like the R&J question and hated the J&H question.
What's a bit frustrating is that yesterday evening, I chose a Mr bruff video at random for DS to watch and it answered about half of that question. DS watched it, discussed it with DH afterwards (who was seeing Mr bruff for the first time), but yet today had no memory of having even seen it.

BlueBelle123 · 22/05/2018 16:50

DS did AQA geography, he said time was tight - he mentioned 2 9 markers Grin

calzone · 22/05/2018 16:51

Ds was fine with CC and Macbeth

However one of his friends answered the R&J question 🙄🙄🙈

And one boy answered all the questions!!!!!!

You had to answer 2/13 of the ones you had studied and he answered all of them.

Oh dear.

mmzz · 22/05/2018 16:52

DS has been telling me that he finds English difficult since about year 8. Now, finally, I believe him, because if you can't make parallels between that analysis yesterday and the exam question today, then it is time to stop studying English!

BlueBelle123 · 22/05/2018 16:55

Someone in DS's geography exam did that they answered the questions on coastal even though it hasn't been studied apparently he doesn't like glaciersConfused

mmzz · 22/05/2018 16:56

How would the examiner mark that calzone? Maybe they'll Mark then all and add his marks together and he'll have picked up all the easy marks for each??
You would think the teacher would have made sure he knows what to expect from the structure of the paper though!

OP posts:
dogzdinner · 22/05/2018 16:57

I've got home and DS is asleep. So no idea how they went yet.

LooseAtTheSeams · 22/05/2018 16:58

Sos just remembered your post - do you mean sort of things that could go in the answers?

hmcAsWas · 22/05/2018 17:30

You would hope that for the boy who did all the questions they mark all his answers and take the marks for the best answers. He must have given them all a bit of a superficial treatment however. Poor lad

CeeCeeMacFay · 22/05/2018 17:38

After a great Eng Lit my ds missed 15 marks on the Geog by answering only 1 out of 3 questions when he should have answered 2!

TheSecondOfHerName · 22/05/2018 17:39

Thank you Sostenueto and Catherine Cawood

I had a busy afternoon at work and the thread moved on three pages!

I asked DS2 his opinion of all his exams so far. He feels that French (AQA) was easier than any of the others.
