A new thread to take us through the exams

(This was AQA, so next exam on Wed, by the way.)

EllenJanethickerknickers · 14/05/2018 13:54

A mark a minute is pretty standard for most papers, I think.

Not heard from DS3 re Computer Science. He took his phone but as he's in summer uniform there's no worry about leaving it in his pocket, but he's obviously not checking it. Too late but he's not allowed a calculator with OCR board, he showed me the spec last night.

I'm home early to take DS2 to GP to get a form signed to prove his eligibility for DSA, disabled students allowance, to pay for support for his HNC. Crazy because he's not ill and hasn't seen the GP for years, but they still need a letter confirming he's autistic. Hmm

mmzz · 14/05/2018 13:57

DS1 doing his first paper right now. I feel like weeping! I know that's irrational.

Pretending, my DD has her AQA RS this afternoon not this morning --Ih
hope-- Confused

slinkyme · 14/05/2018 14:06

Mmzz not at all irrational. I Have been quite emotional too this am - not sure why.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 14:07

RS is this afternoon eg now!

Oratory1 · 14/05/2018 14:09

DS RS is only one paper 2 1/2 hours long. Not sure what's better, having it more spread out or getting it all over in one go. He'll be half dead by the end though especially with CS this morning so don't think we'll get much revision out of him for the dreaded Biology tmrw.

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 14:11
Confused

DD went in this morning and told me it was this morning.

And sent me a message to say she's at school revising for her biology. But no details about the exam!

Maybe as there are other subjects eg Computer Science and Latin on today, some schools are doing it in the afternoon?

That might explain why there is nothing about how the exam went on The Student Room etc. Presumably they check to make sure papers aren't leaked before people have done them.

Unless DD got the time wrong and isn't telling me?!

But not really like her to make stuff up.

Confused Oh well, I'll find out eventually.

Good luck to those having it this afternoon!

Stickerrocks · 14/05/2018 14:17

Different boards, different times & dates, don't panic pretending.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 14:17

It’s definitely this afternoon for all boards & there are no other subjects this afternoon. This morning was Computer Science, ICT, Hebrew, Latin & Law.

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 14:17

Hmmm, just looked at the timetable and it says 12.00 start!

So maybe she did get the time wrong and is too embarrassed to say.

Oh dear.

Shall make sure to check it myself from now on...

Hope it meant she was able to study more as she seemed quite hesitant last night, hence my username.

Need Wine

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 14:18

Unless it’s IGCSE

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 14:19

I'm only on Day 1 and already need wine!

AlwaysHiding · 14/05/2018 14:20

DD was very positive following computer science exam. Knew most of it, albeit struggled to think of the terminology in places. She’s pleased with how it went.

She’s now revising Biology on Seneca and resting in between.

@Sticker - the sooner she can cross Classics off, the better! What should have been an enjoyable subject has been ruined by a teacher who hates their job and is now retiring after voicing their dissatisfaction to students for years.

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 14:21

No, it's AQA.

Thanks so much for confirming.

Was wondering why DD hadn't come straight back as usually she hates revising at school.

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 14:25

Sorry, being slow.

AQA GCSE not IGCSE.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 14:25

Better to be half a day early for an exam than half a day late!

cubscout · 14/05/2018 14:32

Can I join at this late hour?
I'm an old MN user, not be on much in the last few years but in the last few weeks have been lurking on this thread!
Ds is sitting RE as we speak, he has 12 GCSE's to sit in all. He's a great kid, has worked hard all year and I really hope he does himself justice.

Good luck to all in the upcoming weeks -lets hope they all meet their challenges bravely and we stay sane!

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 14:32

Flowers Very true!

Thanks for being more glass half full than I am at the moment. :)

brainmelt · 14/05/2018 14:32

kickbishop oh no hope she recovers soon...

Oratory1 · 14/05/2018 14:44

Welcome cubscout - 12 GCSE's that's a lot !! Must be something about first and last child - I was very anxious and emotional this morning, much more so than before.

mmzz · 14/05/2018 14:46

cubscout and all the other new faces that have joined this thread in the last 48 hours - welcome! It's good to have you all.

DS gets extra time... 45 minutes to go until his first paper is finished. Telling myself: "Don't ask too many questions! Don't ask too many questions, don't ask too many ....". I bet despite this very strong resolution, the first thing that happens when i see him is ask how it went and then start asking for details.

cubscout · 14/05/2018 14:48

Thanks. It is a lot. They choose 10 in Y 10 which includes double science. Then top set Science get entered for triple making 11 and top set maths are all entered for Further Maths making 12. I think the school have really struggled with the new spec this year and are re thinking.
Just waiting for the text now!

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 14:59

DD ran out of time. She thinks she did well otherwise but she’d been hopng for a 9 so it might have made a difference.

sandybayley · 14/05/2018 15:08

DS back from Latin and says it was 'good'. Back at the books now and doing a bit of history but will revert to biology this evening in preparation for tomorrow.

He seems to be taking it in his stride and works my hard but very calm. Long may it continue!
