thanks Floot - so much for promise not to forget to text me!!

Sostenueto · 14/05/2018 11:09

RE paper 1 at 1pm and dgd in a positive mood this morning. Let's hope it lasts! Good luck all today just think another exam bites the dust! Only 21 to goGrin

Sostenueto · 14/05/2018 11:13

second as in all exams its about subject specific language and in biology its also about the 'right' word. Dgd agrees its ridiculous and is not worrying too much about it.

Sostenueto · 14/05/2018 11:21

P.s tip for biology include question in answer I.e enzymes in stomach won't work if pH is higher than blah blah because......answering question like at what pH do enzymes not work properly blahblah. If you understand what I mean and if I haven't confused everyone. State obvious in other words as someone upthread mentioned. Imagine the examiner us an alien and has no idea what you are talking about. Think I'll shut up now as I'm Confused nowGrin

Sostenueto · 14/05/2018 11:23

Yep definitely include the obvious!

slinkyme · 14/05/2018 11:27

Hmc what you said about anxiety issues resonates. DD has these and has been referred to CAHMS. We have potentially final
Meeting with them this afternoon and I suspect they will say that they can't support her. We will have to decide how to proceed and the private counselling is an option. The timing of this couldn't be worse but am just so conscious of supporting DD through this.

On a brighter front heard from DD after Latin exam. Went well although she said it was slightly harder than the mock they did. I think this was one of her easier exams and the harder ones start from here on.

mmzz · 14/05/2018 11:30

AlexanderHamilton yes, it must be Edexcel RS because DS has the same dates this week, plus a 3rd paper next week.

OP posts:
AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 11:36

DD definately does not have a 3rd paper. But its the full GCSE. I'm confused.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 11:45

OK, folks its OK.I loooked up the spec.

For Edexel spec B there are three areas of study and students (teachers) pick two.

The first area (today) is Religeon & ethics and dd's school have chosen christianity for this paper.

The second area (wednesday) is Religeon, peace & conflict and dd's school chose Islam.

the third area which dd's school are not studying is religeon philosophy & social justice.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 11:48

For spec B the two papers are 1hr 45 mins only.

For spec B the 1st paper is 1hr 45 mins (I'm guessing this is the paper the catholic schools do) then Paper 2 & 3 are 50 mins each.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 11:48

That should read Spec A (3 papers)

Oratory1 · 14/05/2018 11:54

DS has trouble explaining what he means and putting enough clarity to answer the question but biology is by far the most frustrating. We have had times when we both think he has given a perfect answer but got nothing. He s lost all enthusiasm for it so just hoping for alenough to get through. I say to him and DD1 ‘pretend your explaining it to me. !!

mmzz · 14/05/2018 12:01

AlexanderHamilton that must be it. DS has an exam today, 1hr45, worth 50% on Catholicism. Judaism worth 25% on Wednesday. Then Catholicism again for the remaining 25% next week.

Judaism isn't too bad. There's a few words and practices to memorise but its all relatively superficial, and fairly obvious (e.g. surprise, surprise they do births, deaths and marriages and throw in coming of age)

The Catholicism parts, however, go a lot deeper, way beyond what anyone who just goes to church every Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation might ever encounter. It encompasses a lot of fairly obscure things - the Cosmological argument for the existence of God is what springs to mind here.

OP posts:
mmzz · 14/05/2018 12:02

That's funny, Oratory1 because I say something similar. Except mine is imagine you are explaining it to DS2.

OP posts:
AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 12:16

Dd is 50% christianity, 50% Islam

AlwaysHiding · 14/05/2018 12:18

DD heard from a friend that they’re having to self study Judaism as it hasn’t been covered yet! The RS teacher went on maternity and it’s been downhill ever since apparently. Poor students are having to fend for themselves

DD had similar with Classics - has had to self study because the teacher, having been on long term sick leave, completely missed a topic and didn’t realise until the Mock!

Aragog · 14/05/2018 12:32

Dd feels positive after this morning's CS exam.

kyrenialady · 14/05/2018 12:39

Floottoot AQA I think.

brainmelt · 14/05/2018 12:39

DS really happy with Latin Lang paper. Four papers down. It's like zapping zombies.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 14/05/2018 12:58

I've just been to deliver paracetamol, ibuprofen and a jumper to dd. It seems what we thought was hay fever is developing into a cold Sad

Still she was relatively pleased with CS this morning. She knew all but one question but she's not sure she always gave enough detail in the answers. She said she felt like she was really slow but that it was shorter than she expected so I'm not too sure what that means!

RS this afternoon should be interesting.

Stickerrocks · 14/05/2018 13:20

WJEC RS is now, Thursday & next Thursday. There is definitely a third paper as this one includes matters of life & death, then there is Islam & Christianity. I'm waiting for the school to email me, as DD couldn't get a break to coincide with when they were free.

DD remembered everything exam related and her trainers but left her tennis kit & racket at home. I had to double back on my way to work, as a fine tennis coach she will be without a racket tonight! She seems chirpy.

56 posts since breakfast - we'll be lucky to make it to the end of the week.

Stickerrocks · 14/05/2018 13:22

Always the only thing which could make matters worse for your DD would be a new rule insisting that all answers had to be submitted in Ancient Greek!

LooseAtTheSeams · 14/05/2018 13:36

Won't hear anything from DS until he returns from school but very pleased to hear Latin went well Brainmelt.Smile
I've heard Biology is even more like that at A level - you have to be so precise with terms.
I woke up very early this morning stupidly due to worrying that I wouldn't wake up at my normal time!! Just glad biology tomorrow is in the afternoon and I'll be at work till 8pm so I won't be able to worry about it too much!

Sostenueto · 14/05/2018 13:40

Well exam started and await phonecall about 3 pm to tell me his dgd got on. 50% catholicism 25% Judaism (Wednesday and only 50 minutes long) then following week for last paper on ethics etc. She was telling me this morning you have to know about icons, mysteries passions etc in depth. Also one mini essay to do today worth a lot of marks apparently. ( sigh). She worked out she has a minute for each mark today. So 3 mark question=3 minutes and mini essay question 15 minutes for 15 marks.

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 13:43

Delurking to ask how other people's dcs found this morning's RS?

DD has stayed at school to revise and hasn't replied to my message about how it went.

Anyone whose dc was doing Christianity and/or Judaism know what topics they got for the bigger mark questions?
