I’m thinking shall we make a rule not to discuss specifics until a certain amount of time has passed due to timetable clashes etc.

sandybayley · 14/05/2018 15:09

Sorry to hear that Alexanderhamilton. Did she miss out much of the exam ?

Stickerrocks · 14/05/2018 15:09

Cubscout sounds like DD, except her 12th was technically some random ICT thing they did last year. I must remember to find the certificate for it. She has Eng Lit & Lang, triple science, maths & further maths, RS, history, geography & Spanish.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 15:10

It was a very quick phone call. She said she was half way through the last question. She did however say she did the longer more mark answers first then went back to the shorter ones.

Stickerrocks · 14/05/2018 15:11

No fear of discussing anything hear Alexander. I will get a grunt & an "alright I spose" before she retreats to the revision pit or the tennis club.

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 15:20

Do they reuse the same exam on a later day with timetable clashes?

Wouldn't think they could as normally on The Student Room there's an unofficial mark scheme up within an hour or two of the exam being sat!

Sostenueto · 14/05/2018 15:22

RE went OK apparently just one 4 mark question she was a bit miffed by but thinks she's got 1 mark for it. Glad one more out of the way.Smile

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 15:24

Anyone who has a timetable clash is meant to be kept in isolation until they take their exam.

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 15:28

I'm still waiting to hear from dd...

Sostenueto · 14/05/2018 15:29

I think its OK to say it went well/bad was hard/not hard etc and how our DC coped but not mention what questions were or ask what they were.

Eve · 14/05/2018 15:35

DS was in contact - good was what a got on CS, thinks it was OK .

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 15:40

Have worked out what happened with dd getting the wrong time (though still not heard from her)…

She sent me a timetable she put together months ago using the schedule on the exam boards' websites, not the official timetable the school sends. If you don't put in a time on google calendar, it defaults to 12.00, which nearly all the times are.

I've now checked times myself on the exam board websites and asked the school to send me the proper timetable too to check.

Aaagh.

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 15:41

the official start time I think was 1.30pm but schools can start half an hour earlier or later. DDs school started half an hour earlier.

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 15:41

Though thinking about it, still don't know why she thought all the exams at 12.00 were in the morning??

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 15:43

Luckily Biology tomorrow seems to be in the afternoon as suspect she has lots to cover...

pretendingtobechilled · 14/05/2018 15:44

She's been working so hard but I'm not sure how effectively?

AlexanderHamilton · 14/05/2018 15:48

Yes, do has Dd but I think she should be practising time management techniques now rather than learning quotes?

cubscout · 14/05/2018 15:51

Just had a call, RE went ok, in ds's words '3 of the 12 markers were ok, one a bit iffy' but overall he is relieved to have started. Phew!

BlueBelle123 · 14/05/2018 16:14

Good news and bad news here......good news CS was good.....bad news DS has been put on medication that causes diahorria(sp) in 1 in 10 adults!!!! wouldn't want to be sat next to DS in exams !!

JufusMum · 14/05/2018 16:17

I asked DD this morning what was the one thing she didn't want to come up on the RE exam (her favourite subject). She said the Crucifixion.
Guess what came up?
She's in a bit of a state as it's an A level choice ...

hmcAsWas · 14/05/2018 16:18

Glad that on the whole todays exams seem to have gone well for most.

Bit perturbed that dd is now refusing to revise for History, Physics, Maths and English Literature because they are 'next week' and she will only revise what is coming up the next day. Have pointed out that neglecting those four subjects this week and then shoehorning them into the weekend isn't a great plan. Got shouted at and I backed off

DD reflected over lunch (she's on study leave at home with me) that its a good job she has extra time because she finds it hard to concentrate and she often day dreams for a few minutes during each exam Shock. Grrrrreat!

I feel myself making a transition to a more zen like position - I've done tonnes of support, encouragement, suggestions so far but I can't actually sit the exams for her. I've been the responsible facilitating parent - its down to her now. She's her own person....so I am moving toward a more laissez faire hands off approach - which will be quite a relief I'm sure. Que sera sera - she'll achieve what she is meant to achieve and I can't force it

hmcAsWas · 14/05/2018 16:22

JufusMum - I did some exams quite recently, history with the OU. Was convinced that I had achieved a bare pass on one of the papers, actually got >80%, and yet I was certain that I had fluffed it.

Your dd is probably overthinking it and did far better than she thinks

sandybayley · 14/05/2018 16:27

DS has a couple of exam clashes and they are kept in strict isolation so there is no way for details to be shared - so feel free to share away! No phones so TSR sharing would be impossible.

That said I'm not sure whether my DS is capable of sharing anything someone else would find useful!

Teenmum60 · 14/05/2018 16:35

DD phoned to say that the CS exam was far easier than any of the specimen papers and they all finished with time to spare (although sensibly she went back through the paper). I guess the grade boundaries will be very high...unless paper 2 has hidden surprises.

Seems like her friends doing Latin and RS also said exams had gone well and again found these papers easier than the mocks...so a good first day.

calzone · 14/05/2018 16:36

Ds said RS went well.

Phew.

Biology tomorrow.
