If Scotland voted for independence, would you move elsewhere for a bit to see how things shake out?

I would (and would definitely move my savings out of Scotland until things stabilised)

Probably hypothetical for at least a while just wondering if anyone strongly feels they'd stick around to ride it out.

That's a no then. Thought so.

And do they/did they have children and/or mortgages? These "I'd leave" statements are so easy to make. My children's generation will vote for independence so you're probably best to start making solid plans.

Yes and yes. Your dream is dead. Get over it.

Did I say it was my dream? You seem pretty upset about this.

"The "too wee, too poor, too stupid" nonsense is deeply ingrained in Mumsnet, along with an almighty dollop of good old Scottish cringe. It's embarrassing."

This made me laugh. I couldn't agree more. As soon as I saw the thread title I knew it would be total bile. May as well read a Daily Mail comments page.

Your investments will definitely lose value and your earnings will buy a lot less for a long time. There will also be a hard customs border at Berwick (there has to be under wto rules). It would be really hard for a long time. I know many people say that's a worthwhile price for a better future but, selfishly, I don't care what things are like after I'm dead...

Ah ok. I do care about what things will be like after I'm dead.

Yes because my life is a tiny blip in time.

Ah! the much vaunted "SNP SGE Wipeout", that the polls are showing no sign of actually materialising, while the white knight Labour party which is supposedly going to ride to the "rescue", is already more unpopular than the historically unpopular government it replaced.

Bring it on indeed

Yes because my life is a tiny blip in time.

One of the reasons I'd leave is that the NHS wouldn't be able to support the expensive care my partner needs. I suspect you'd feel differentlyin reality.

Yes and I would campaign to rejoin the EU as the 28th Member State. That would be fantastic !

The SNP are awful let's not be naive! If they aren't wiped out it's only because the others are also awful. Grim.

No disagreement on that front. They are tired and need a spell on the sidelines, but all indications are that the alternatives would be even worse.

It's a sorry state of affairs.

I work for the NHS and it's going to have to change substantially well before independence is likely to materialise. Whether indy scotland happens or not, the NHS cannot continue in its current form.

Emotionalsupporthamster · 02/10/2024 21:12

No, I wouldn’t be off somewhere else, this is home and I don’t think it would be Armageddon as some people seem to imagine: But realistically it’s not on the cards for the foreseeable future anyway is it?

"Your investments will definitely lose value"....lol yes poor Norway and its huge difficulties with its massive oil fund etc...

Yolo12345 · 02/10/2024 21:14

Vettrianofan · 02/10/2024 21:15

Not wealthy so nothing to lose🤷‍♀️

I can understand those who have amassed fortunes in Scotland wanting to leave though in the eventuality it became independent as a country.

What relevance exactly do you think that has to the value of your investments? 😂😂

Ah! the much vaunted "SNP SGE Wipeout", that the polls are showing no sign of actually materialising

Oh let's take a look at the most recent GE, which is a much better indicator than polling, which can be way off. What happened there pet?
