Exam results 2024

Thought I'd get started on the exam results thread as we have a month to go!
I think, as a parent, I'm more nervous about this year (Highers) than last year (N5) as the Higher results will influence university applications.
DD tells me she's not thinking about her exams, but then she throws into conversation how 'super smart' her friends are and how they will probably get As, and also has asked me if our postcode is eligible for widening access (it isn't) so it appears to me that she IS thinking / worrying about her results.
We do have a holiday coming up which will hopefully help us all relax.
How are other kids doing?

We’re in the same situation. DD isn’t optimistic. She didn’t finish any of the Higher exams (although that was also true of Nat 5s and she got 3 x A and 3 x Bs). Her dyslexia really slows her down. But she’s going back to S6 to do Advanced Higher Drama and more Highers so not quite so worried for uni.

Two weeks to go.
I'm surprised by the number of clearing courses available. Even UWS has spaces on their primary teaching course which I assumed would be full.
DD still too young to leave so I'd rather she stay for S6 even if she meets the grades.

Ds3 sat 3 Advanced Highers and doesn’t think he has done all that well. He had a very chilled 6th year doing lots of extracurricular activities, probably at the expense of studying. However, he did well in his Highers and has unconditional university places to choose from so he’s in a fairly comfortable position. I’m not too concerned regarding grades but I will feel disappointed if he doesn’t pass them. I will try to keep that to myself though.

My daughter is waiting for N5 results. She has two much older brothers who avoided all the Covid shenanigans.
I had a pretty good idea how they would do beforehand but I must confess I really haven't been able to get much of an insight into my daughter's abilities, due to the large gaps in her education.
I believe this will be the first year since 2019 that the exams are back to normal and I am glad about that.At least it will be hopefully fairly accurate and based on actual ability rather than guesswork from teachers..

DD has already left school and applied to 3 college courses but I'm still nervous about the results coming in. She's had major issues with her autism and anxiety all the way through secondary school and attendance was down at 25% but the school was amazing with their support and online learning to get her at least a few qualifications. Hopefully. She stopped going to a couple of classes so I don't know if she'll get those ones.

My next worry will be how she'll cope at college but we'll cross that bridge in a few months time.

I have just one waiting for exams this year - DS and Nat 5s. He's fairly confident he's done OK and school have let him start 5 Highers, but unsure about Maths and Biology.

motheronthedancefloor · 25/07/2024 14:20

do the grade boundaries get released the same day? I can't remember if its the same day or afterwards?

Hello to anyone who was on the 2024 exams thread! Less than 2 weeks to go now - eek. DD took 5 Highers, really not sure how they went, seemed not to completely finish quite a few which was a bit worrying. Anyway, have everything firmly crossed for the 6th.

HigherUp · 28/07/2024 18:06

Getting closer… waiting on Higher results.

motheronthedancefloor · 30/07/2024 17:38

One week!!!

We're waiting for Nat 5 results next week. DD is very nervous - she's worked hard and deserves a good set of results. So nervous for her too.

She's signed up for the text service with my phone number because she can't face finding out!

OneSassyWasp · 02/08/2024 15:14

Yes I remember looking through them on results day last year. here’s a link to all the sqa dates if your interested: https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/48513.html 😁

Glasgowgin · 02/08/2024 18:18

Highers for mine, he's starting to feel quite nervous now (as am I!)

motheronthedancefloor · 02/08/2024 18:55

DD is getting more nervous as the days progress. She is working results day but has signed up for the text alert. At least she says she did!

I'm worried sick but trying not to show it.

Can anyone tell me if its possible to find out a [articular school's results, and for particular departments? eg how many people got an A, B or C for Maths? There's been lots of complaints from pupils and parents this year. One teacher suspended, another quit. DD opted not to do the Higher as she didn't like the teacher. I'm very curious to know how kids were affected.

🤞for Tuesday

Is anyone who has been through this in previous years able to tell me a rough time the text message comes through?

YouBelongWithMe · 02/08/2024 23:32

Checking in! Son sat five Highers. He thinks he's signed up to text notifications...🙄 Would love his S6 to be about fun and gaining independence, rather than panicking over whether he secures the grades at the final post. Fingers crossed.

That's how I feel too, I'd love her to meet the requirementss for her course this year so she can do the same.

Same! That's a really good way to describe it. Here's hoping!

YouBelongWithMe · 03/08/2024 12:58

We have S6s (I'm a teacher) who secure their grades in S5 and then spend their last year doing a crash Higher in H.E. so they can definitely cook before they leave for uni. It's a great idea!

YouBelongWithMe · 02/08/2024 23:32

Early. 8am.

We were on holiday overseas when my son’s results came in last year and was about 8:20am.

My other child is in S6 but waiting for Highers results as was unable to complete them in S5. Got a conditional offer at uni resting on them - feeling nervous!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 03/08/2024 17:48

DD waiting on her Higher results here and has been doing a bit of management of expectations, but hopefully will do better than she's telling us. If not she has S6 but changing courses to resit may not be easy, depending on spaces being available in classes. At least there's the text notifications now rather than the agony of having to wait for the postie!

theferry · 03/08/2024 18:49

@TheGirlOnTheLanding DD is in the same
situation. I really don’t know what to expect.

I kept telling ds that last year. He got very good results in S5 and a choice of unconditional university places secured. Unfortunately he really took my advice to heart and had a fun year. I’m not sure that his advanced Higher results are going to be what I’d hoped for. A crash Higher H.E. might have been more useful!

bluebellsandspring · 03/08/2024 20:02

I'm getting nervous. DC waiting for higher results. Could have signed up to get the results by text but chose not to, so longer to wait. Postie often here around lunchtime.
