Exam results 2024

Thought I'd get started on the exam results thread as we have a month to go!
I think, as a parent, I'm more nervous about this year (Highers) than last year (N5) as the Higher results will influence university applications.
DD tells me she's not thinking about her exams, but then she throws into conversation how 'super smart' her friends are and how they will probably get As, and also has asked me if our postcode is eligible for widening access (it isn't) so it appears to me that she IS thinking / worrying about her results.
We do have a holiday coming up which will hopefully help us all relax.
How are other kids doing?

DS says he can't log into school email account because it has 'too much traffic'. So we will be waiting a bit longer.

On a side note - BBC interviewing kids from the Glasgow Gaelic School on telly about their results.

Why ON EARTH would you allow your kids to do this, even if you were confident they'd done OK?

My daughter’s was a blank email for both highers and adv highers…

She hoped for 2 As in her favourite subjects but got a B and a C. lots of tears.
Not sure what to do now re S6 choices and uni plans (she will need a few As Bs)
I dont know how to cheer her up.

Mostly good here, phew! Except that DD got a B for English, and the course she wants has an A for English as an additional requirement. But their class had a really terrible year for teaching English last year, with teachers off, lots of subs and lots of gaps so we're going to find out grade and see if we can appeal. DD is actually really strong in the subject so it's a bit of a shock.

5 highers is incredible. A few more next year and aim for As and she’ll have an amazing set of results.

shame she’s so upset but really, I would be happy if one of my pupils achieved this! She passed every one!!

Still asleep when I went in at 8.20 now going back to sleep - thought it wasn’t until 9 - passed all but a bit meh as ‘only’ 2 As - hopefully she’ll cheer up.

She got As in her prelims but appeals dont consider prelims anymore do they.
I'm trying really hard to emphasise that she passed and we're proud but shes so upset. She's going to work now and refuses to call in sick.

3As 2Bs here he is upset was hoping for 5 As but 4 definitely. English (not a massive surprise) and physics (more surprised and he’s doing AH physics so that’s more of an upset) Still a very good set of results but he looks so miserable. Lot will depend on how his friends do as to how he feels now…

Phew, all good here. 6 As and 1 B at National 5, despite saying he was really worried about Maths he's come away with an A, and the B is Biology which he doesn't care about anyway. Onwards to Higher, back next year for an even more worrying wait...

That was all too stressful and had to wake DS to get him to check. 7 A’s which is great. I have my fingers crossed for everyone and hope they sort the blank e mails as it’s stressful enough!

Does anyone know if the maths higher is giving low results - son excels in maths - always got an A - thought he got an A in the exam but got a B somehow 🥺 He’s gutted….
