Thought I'd get started on the exam results thread as we have a month to go!
I think, as a parent, I'm more nervous about this year (Highers) than last year (N5) as the Higher results will influence university applications.
DD tells me she's not thinking about her exams, but then she throws into conversation how 'super smart' her friends are and how they will probably get As, and also has asked me if our postcode is eligible for widening access (it isn't) so it appears to me that she IS thinking / worrying about her results.
We do have a holiday coming up which will hopefully help us all relax.
How are other kids doing?

There's a couple of programmes running in the Highlands but it definitely seems to be harder to find out information than in the Central Belt.

University of Aberdeen's programme covers some schools in the Highland and Islands area - not sure whether your school is listed here https://www.abdn.ac.uk/study/documents/University%20of%20Aberdeen%20Contexualised%20Admissions%20Policy-%20Updated%20March%202024%20.pdf

And there's a programme called Aspire North which seems to cover some of the content covered by LEAPS/ Reach/ Focus West https://www.aspirenorth.co.uk/highlands-and-islands-programme/

That’s really interesting @WetWetterWettest I hadn’t heard of either of these and his school isn’t listed but reading the information on Aspire North, it sounds like a follow on from some coding/programming sessions he did and a couple of workshops at the UHI pre Covid. These weren’t through school. I really only found them by a chance discussion with a school mum who worked there.

Glad there are a few more to help other young people access support to get into higher education.

DS completed his LEAPS survey at the weekend and will get a 1 to 1 interview in due course. He ticked two of the boxes for fitting the eligibility criteria. Hopefully that's enough.
