Shall we have a Scotsnet general election thread?

This WILL be interesting. Even if it doesn’t rid us of the SNP from Holyrood, it will provide a good barometer of public opinion on the recent exploits of the SNP.

Farewell Blackman and Black!

My money is on Labour at Westminster but increased Tories in Scotland. Only the tory MSPs have been impressive imo, although I appreciate they’re not the ones standing in the GE, but they should show the calibre of the party representatives in general.

LogansWalk · 22/05/2024 19:48

I think I'm going to vote Tory for the first time ever.

Misthios · 22/05/2024 19:49

I’m voting whoever is most likely to give snp a kicking which in my area is Lib Dem.

Pootle40 · 22/05/2024 19:52

Labour all the way here to kick them both out.

MorrisZapp · 22/05/2024 19:57

Reporting fir duty!

Oh god, bring it on. Let's drain the swamp of these absolute SNP jokers. I know some of them are extremely hard working and dedicated to helping their constituents but we need their numbers to be slashed.

I'm staying up until I see Swinney weeping. Probably hold my nose and vote Labour.

StripedTomatoes · 22/05/2024 19:57

"Shall we have a general election thread that's completely biased?" Oh yes, great idea. Hmm

The SNP will still do pretty well in a Westminster election IMO. But we shall see.

stargirl1701 · 22/05/2024 20:05

It's not a well timed election for Scottish folk! Literally the start of the summer holidays. I'm going to have to cast my first ever postal vote. 😡

MrsAmaretto · 22/05/2024 20:07

I might do a postal vote too, but mainly because I’ll never remember to take photo id to the poll place!

im really hoping I get some campaigners to my door as I have gripes with all the major parties on national, Scottish and local issues and want to bend someone’s ear about it!

dementedpixie · 22/05/2024 20:09

We'll be away as well. Already have postal voting set up though. I would vote for anyone as long as its not SNP

You can balance the bias 😁

I actually agree with you…I think they will still do well. It appears they can do no wrong with a good proportion of the Scottish electorate.

I've just checked out the candidates for my constituency.....not a particularly inspiring bunch, any party. Checking out previous voting decisions shows a bit of a mixed bag across various issues.

I'd really love to see anyone giving any good reason why people should give the SNP their vote. And not in a 'keep the Tories out!!' type way but in a 'given that there is a current police investigation into misuse of finances and that drug deaths in Scotland are the highest in Europe, and that membership has plummeted, and that independence (their supposed raison d'etre) is no longer a priority, along with numerous other issues, why we should vote for them. Seriously.

And I say that as a former SNP voter, whose whole family was previously involved in the party since the 70's.

BigBoysDontCry · 22/05/2024 20:32

I was going to ask who has the worst MP that they are looking forward to getting rid of, but that's probably too wide a question...

Anyway, I'd live to see mine (Alyn Smith) kicked to the gutter. Lazy grifter gobshite. However I think even with the imminent demise of the SNP he's probably still going to get in. Makes me ashamed of my local population.

Awrite · 22/05/2024 20:37

I suspect SNP will hold in my constituency. Fairly decent MP stepping down (retiring) but I don't think Labour will be able take the seat back.

I haven't decided how I will vote yet.

NotTooOldPaul · 22/05/2024 20:39

I hope that we end up with no Conservative MPs in Scotland and a big majority of SNP MPs as we need to show Westminster that we are fed up with them.

BigBoysDontCry · 22/05/2024 20:42

What do you think a bigger amount of SNP MPs is going to do for Scotland?

ThomasinaLivesHere · 22/05/2024 20:46

Not sure who to vote for. I think about spoiling my ballot but will probably end up voting in the end.

I hope get us free from being dominated and taxed by England. I want freedom from English politics.

Elieza · 22/05/2024 20:51

I don't know who to vote for at all. A party that doesn't believe in gender and goes by sex instead would be a start for me.

motheronthedancefloor · 22/05/2024 20:53

Parties with the best chance of success in my area are SNP or Labour so not really any point in voting for any other party although these two parties don't know what a woman is. I'll likely vote Labour to get the SNP out. Our MP is utter shite and never around whereas our Labour candidate is pretty visible. Our area is traditionally Labour anyway and will likely revert back.

FreesiaPansy · 22/05/2024 20:57

I would really love to see the SNP totally wiped out.

I've never been a Labour voter but they will definitely get my vote.

Come the Scottish election, alarmingly not until 2026 I hope its 'SNP no more'
'Greens no more'.

Waitwhat23 · 22/05/2024 20:57

This is how I feel about the whole thing -

Yet another SNP supporter with zero idea of how Scottish and UK politics actually works and just parrots the same old 'it's all westminsters fault' line.

Please FFS if you are going to argue for independence etc, educate yourself first. Its so exhausting listening to this same old shite.

Obviously people vote for what they want, but given how many MPs they already have, I'm struggling as to what more of the same would achieve?

You do know that that's all gobshite though eh?

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 22/05/2024 21:02

I'll be voting SNP to support my outstanding local MP.

Starmer's government will need challenged from a Scotland-centric perspective every bit as much as the Tories have, and since none of Scotland's non-SNP elected members have shown any inclination whatsoever to upset their London masters, this will yet again fall to the SNP contingent.
