I think to be fair the news programmes are lots shorter at the weekend & there's been so much devastation caused by the weather they probably (rightly or wrongly) felt that warranted the coverage.

Janeb1965 · 21/10/2023 23:16

No, but I was at the one in Dundee

Ineedaholiday23 · 22/10/2023 13:52

Of course, mainstream media won't show it.

ssd · 22/10/2023 15:36

There were thousands there, i could see them from the concert hall steps right the way up sauchiehall street. Ridiculous its not mentioned.

I was there, there were a huge amount of people, apparently even more than last week. So proud of Glasgow for showing up, people of every age and race, all calling for an end to the terror being inflicted on innocent Palestinians.

Not surprised it wasn't shown on the news to be honest, the news isn't exactly impartial and the numbers marching across the UK show that Sunak has got it wrong.

Any thought for the terror inflicted on the innocent 1400 Israelis butchered by Hamas? I find this really disturbing, that the horror of those attacks is seemingly forgotten.

therealcookiemonster · 22/10/2023 16:58

@soddingspiderseason to support one doesn't negate the other. what about the Yemenis being butchered by the Saudis (using weapons sold by us) in their thousands? what about the thousands dead in the Afghanistan earthquake less than two weeks ago? what about the 5000 children dying every day simply due to starvation? I could go on.... my heart goes out to all those people... including the innocent Jewish people butchered by hamas. this doesn't mean the people dying in gaza do not deserve our support. this sort of whataboutery doesn't get us anywhere.

therealcookiemonster · 22/10/2023 17:01

@ssd the media reporting has been ridiculous. the London march yesterday wasn't even on the BBC front page... and there were hundreds of thousands there... even when it is covered, it is always on negative terms eg. the BBC incorrectly calling the marches as being in support of hamas (and then having to apologise) .... thankfully social media has been more informative.

SharonEllis · 22/10/2023 17:02

Is there also a vigil for th 1400 Jews (not all of them Israeli) raped, tortured & murdered (their deaths in some cases livestreamed on their own social media channels)& the 200 hostages still held by Hamas?

annabelindajane · 22/10/2023 17:06

I agree I don’t quite get how it’s ok to murder families in a kibbutz and young people attending a musical festival in Israel . I believe these marches feed nicely into the Hamas mind set . I’m sure all very well meaning but the terrorists must love it . The situation is vastly more complicated than ever printed in the press and reported on media . You have to live there to understand the situation. The people being killed on either side did not choose the present set up .

therealcookiemonster · 22/10/2023 17:06

@SharonEllis yes there was actually. if you actually cared instead of being here to stoke up an argument, you would have known about it and attended it.

therealcookiemonster · 22/10/2023 17:07

@annabelindajane nice to know we have someone here who can read minds. please can you let me know what my ex MIL was thinking that caused her to be so mean to me?

therealcookiemonster · 22/10/2023 17:09

@annabelindajane I agree re reporting etc. and that very few actually understand the situation but we live in a free country and free speech and the right to protest is integral to our democracy

Wordsworse · 22/10/2023 17:31

You can protest as much as you want. It doesn’t mean it has to be reported in media. Do you only do things if you have an audience?

icantchangetime · 22/10/2023 17:35

No because I don't support terrorists

Nobody has said that they agree it was "ok" to murder anyone in the kibbutz or at a music festival ,but carpet bombing an entire population of innocrnt people in their homes,in hospitals and in churches across Gaza in retaliation isn't right.

It's genocide and I, like thousands of others were protesting in Glasgow against that.

This situation didn't start two weeks ago, many many innocent people have been murdered over the past 70 plus years the vast majority of them innocent Palestinian civilians.

There is no Hamas in the West Bank, what's the justification for the daily killing or imprisonment of Palestinians there? There is none.

I am sick of having to justify my support of innocent Palestinians by stating that I don't support Hamas.

Supporting innocent Palestinians, marching against the actions of Israel and the IDF, marching against genocide does not equate to supporting Hamas.

GoldenHurst · 22/10/2023 17:41

When you were on the march did you give any thought to the innocent people murdered so savagely on 7th October by Hamas or the fate of the hostages?

Have you considered what it must be like being Jewish in the UK at the moment?
While you’re out marching, you’re contributing to making Jewish people feel less safe in this country.

The loss of life of innocent civilians on both sides is horrific.

Dubonet · 22/10/2023 17:47

Is it only Celtic supporters who would be showing up at a march to call for a ceasefire and end the carpetbombing of Gaza?

Only Celtic supporters who would believe that bombing children in their homes, in hospitals and in churches and mosques is wrong?!

Are all Celtic fans IRA supporters in your view?

Do Rangers fans not care, are they too busy looking at their portraits of Charles?!

Gtf with your old firm bullshit @icantchangetime .

Thats interesting because the OP only mentioned Palestine. And why would I go to Glasgow when I live in London? I was at the London vigil calling for Hamas terrorist to release the hostages.

Dubonet · 22/10/2023 18:19

Have you ever attended any marches for Israel to release any of the hostages held by them, locked up for years without trial with a significant number of children included or is it only Israelis who you feel any compassion towards?

Ratlingbow · 22/10/2023 18:23

I dont get what people think Israel should do? Their people were attacked and brutally murdered/ raped/ babies be-headed by a terrorist group who happen to be the government as well. And in the UK people seem to be on the terrorists side. Where are the marches for Israel/ in support of the Jewish people? The figures vary but Hamas seem to be supported by around 50% of people in Gaza. Hamas need to be taken out or no Jews will be safe.

Lookingatthesunset · 22/10/2023 18:28

I abhor terrorism wherever it comes from, and whoever is the target.

I wouldn't feel comfortable attending a rally in support of Palestinians because it would feel to me like I was dancing on the graves of the victims of Hamas.

Dubonet · 22/10/2023 18:40

There is no point in responding to someone who thinks Israels current actions are understandable or acceptable.

It seems you only have sympathy and compassion for those that are Israeli, not those who are innocent and being slaughtered in Gaza. Nor those subjected to Israeli apartheid regime throughout occupied Palestine.

ssd · 22/10/2023 18:50

I am absolutely sure those marching in the protests, including in Glasgow, were as horrified at the horrific civilian attack in israel as much as the bombing of civilians in Gaza. As usual, its the innocent people caught up in terrifying situations that pay the price for decisions made they had no say in. But ordinary people are watching Biden and Sunak hugging Netanyahu and clearly giving what he is doing support. This is abhorrent to many of us. In the same way I'd feel utter revulsion if these two leaders had hugged and stood on a platform praising the leaders from hammas and ignoring the damage they have done.
