@Iwantcakeeveryday

What you've stated is untrue. Re Hamas.

@Iwantcakeeveryday

What you've stated is untrue. Re Hamas.

Which bit is untrue?

That they were elected?
That they want to eradicate Jews?

I'd love to know the other aims of this terrorist organisation.

Ineedaholiday23 · 23/10/2023 09:58

'eradicating the world of Jews.'

Ineedaholiday23 · 23/10/2023 10:04

I have spent time in Israel (where I studied Judaism, the Holocaust and met experts from both Israel and Palestine).

Notaflippinclue · 23/10/2023 10:07

How do you eradicate Hamas - Hamas = ISIS, terrorists don't negotiate, they want to be martyrs, Palestinians won't give them up - what do you suggest?

Iwantcakeeveryday · 23/10/2023 10:19

Ineedaholiday23 · 23/10/2023 09:53

@Iwantcakeeveryday

What you've stated is untrue. Re Hamas.

No it is not! Oh please don't try and claim this is not their stated aim and they were not democratically elected. Jfc.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 23/10/2023 10:23

I am absolutely shocked someone is here denying the stated and repeated aim of Hamas, who deny the holocaust as well. I mean... why would you defend in any way, what is a clear terrorist organisation. Who hate jews.

AlwaysHeadingWest · 23/10/2023 10:39

I wouldn't march for either side as it's not my conflict and it's not football or rugby where we have to pick a team.

I also hope I have the humility to accept that I don't know enough of the history of the region and the conflict to be able to confidently take a side. If there was a vigil for peace I might attend that and it seems telling to me that no such events appear to be taking place.

It's also pretty disingenuous to think that Jewish people in the UK shouldn't feel threatened by these large and aggressive marches. How are the Israeli people supposed know that you also empathise with them following their equivalent of 9/11? You didn't march for them and you didn't join their vigils for the hostages.

Yes you may only wish to show solidarity with Palestinian civilians and your quarrel may only be with the Israeli government. You may have no animus towards the Jewish or Israeli people themselves - but you're kidding yourself if you don't realise that there are people marching alongside you who absolutely do hate the Jewish people - not just the Israeli government, but the Jews themselves - and want to see Israel wiped off the map.

You may have the best of intentions but if you're marching alongside those who have this agenda they are going to be emboldened by that and claim it as support whether or not that was what you intended.

Warriormum1 · 23/10/2023 11:25

@Littlebluetruck Thanks for sharing that. If the women who have had to endure the horrors of this conflict can find a way to rise above it and get together for peace, then surely people halfway across the world who have nothing to do with it can manage to get together for the sake of peace rather than taking sides and fighting over which side is right or wrong? Marching in protest for Palestine or any side of any war only causes more conflict.

Ineedaholiday23 · 23/10/2023 11:37

@Iwantcakeeveryday

I have literally studied the holocaust in Israel.

'eradicating the world of Jews.'

From Hamas' founding charter:

'The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: 'O Moslem, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him.'

'The HAMAS regards itself the spearhead and the vanguard of the circle of struggle against World Zionism... Islamic groups all over the Arab world should also do the same, since they are best equipped for their future role in the fight against the warmongering Jews.'

Congratulations, but you are still making false statements about Hamas. They are on record for making those comments about jewish people. They are elected. Nothing I said previously is incorrect. Why are you saying it is?

You would hope so wouldn't you. Sadly anti semitism still exists and it exists everywhere.

How did that war against ISIS go? Are they eradicated? Why do think a war on Hamas in which thousands of civilians are slaughtered will eradicate them?

Ah, so this is why I’ve seen so many references to “the rocks and trees will speak”.

I didn’t understand what it meant, but unsurprisingly, it’s just some more antisemitsm.

I think it’s chilling that these kind of views are being expressed in the U.K. I’m frightened by it. I cannot imagine how Jewish people must be feeling.

GoldenHurst · 23/10/2023 12:11

It’s the usual arguments as there are on all the other threads. Disappearing down rabbit holes.
As this is Scotsnet, Inthink there should be more focus on what these marches mean in this country and what really motivates people to go on them.

British Jews are not responsible for the actions of the Israeli govt.
These marches, however well intentioned are intimidating and serve to bolster Hamas.
Too many ill informed people are jumping on a bandwagon.

We should be marching for peace.

While on a march through Glasgow, was there any consideration for the Jewish population?
What it’s like to be a Jewish student on a University Campus?
Why should Jewish youngsters be told to avoid the area where the march went?
( a pp said there were Jewish people on the march so taking that in good faith, clearly not everyone is nervous)

How many folk who attended the pro Palestinian march in Glasgow contacted the local synagogue to express their horror and disgust about the actions of Hamas?

As for Celtic fans waving Palestinian flags, that really is disgraceful and pathetic.
If they want to make some big point about Ireland, make it in a different way.

Anyone who has been to the Middle East and spent time in Israel and the surrounding region knows how complicated it is but also that there are friendships and relationships across the divide on an individual and personal level.

A pro Palestinian march against Hamas would surely be far more appropriate?

Baffled1989 · 23/10/2023 12:28

@Iwantcakeeveryday its not an election as it is here, the majority do not support Hamas, what they do support is an end to corruption and rights to basic human needs.

There is so much misinformed people on here/the world it’s frustrating!

Baffled1989 · 23/10/2023 12:30

@GoldenHurst the marches ARE for peace! They aren’t marching against everyday Israelis they are marching for peace. They are marching for basic human needs. They are marching to be free of corruption. They are marching to be able to live.

I WISJ people would stop twisting protests to suit their own narrative.

snickersandmarsandbounty · 23/10/2023 12:31

I don’t really think an election that was last held in 2006 is truly representative of the Palestinians now. I’m sure they want a different way but like I believe it’s easy to use the Hamas narrative to anniliate innocent Palestinians.
A dialogue has to be established an effort made on peace , it is the only way

I wish people would stop twisting protests to suit their own narrative.

This is really not what is happening. Many people are concerned about the blatant antisemitsm in these marches. I do not support what is happening in Gaza at all. But I’m not prepared to ignore or deny the abhorrent views which are being expressed. I know it’s not all of the people in the protests, but it’s enough.

Areallyboringperson · 23/10/2023 12:41

Regardless of what your motivations are in joining such marches, they only serve to spread antisemitism and should be stopped. Shame on those joining in. You can feel for the innocents in Palestine from the comfort of your own living room.

Notaflippinclue · 23/10/2023 12:47

A lot of people in this country are feeling uneasy and frightened - imagine if you were a Jew on the tube the other day. I honestly feel ashamed of this country

snickersandmarsandbounty · 23/10/2023 12:55

We are allowed to march for peace our voices aren’t represented by this government or many governments. I am a humanitarian

Iwantcakeeveryday · 23/10/2023 12:55

I WISH people would stop twisting protests to suit their own narrative.

I wish you would too @Baffled1989

There has never been any doubt what Hamas stood for, they've made it very clear many times, and that includes before the 2006 elections.

I’m sure it’s not representative but who do you suggest should fix this and arrange a free and fair election.

So much complaining on these threads but a complete lack of solution.
