Careful, don't jinx it!

mapleleavesreturn · 22/02/2022 17:12

Checking in. I'll not be burning mine, mostly as they were expensive and I don't trust scot gov not to mandate them again!

OnceUponAWhine · 22/02/2022 17:15

Thanks @WouldBeGood though I can’t support your thinking that it’s possibly to be the lastGrin

WouldBeGood · 22/02/2022 17:17

🤣

I’m a veritable Pollyanna, me

GoldenOmber · 22/02/2022 17:21

Er… I’m sure I’ll have plenty to rail about again soon, don’t mind me Grin

Dinoteeth · 22/02/2022 17:24

I've got a new name - showing off my teethGrin

ResilienceWanker · 22/02/2022 17:37

Thanks for the continued railing opportunity wouldbegood Smile I'm sure there are other things that will merit it, even after our fabled freeeedommmmm day. . I still can't believe we can (hypothetically) be fined for not wearing a face mask on an empty railway platform, but not for going to stand on a crowded train having received a positive test for covid that morning...

I would burn the masks, but I think the little plastic strip things for my glasses will release all sort of toxic fumes may need to wear a mask as I'm burning them

tomorrowisanewday and patritus from the old thread - on how the antivirals get to who needs them - thanks! That sounds reassuring that they still have that bit in hand at least. As it's such a new treatment it would be a bit shit if the change in policy made them pretty useless to those that needed them!

ResilienceWanker · 22/02/2022 17:39

And now I keep singing "the Final Railing" to the tune of the final countdown. So thanks for that...

Scottishskifun · 22/02/2022 18:00

I do believe NS has been pushed by the other devolved nations also following English course and I'm bloody glad she has finally!

I have only objected to them being in law if people wish to carry on wearing them, and I have family and friends in England who do, then entirely their choice but the important part is that's its a choice!

I'm keeping an eye on countries for a summer holiday we want to go to Malta but their current mask rules are a no go for me (no way in hell am I making my 3 year old wear one!)

GoldenOmber · 22/02/2022 18:01

Thinking about imstilljenny2's post on the last thread about divisions at work over masks. I can really see that happening at my work - there's a lot of people who are still very very cautious in their personal lives and have very strong feelings about people not wearing masks on trains in shops and so on. And there are also a lot of people who are going to be ditching the sodding things the very moment it's allowed. And because my team was all WFH for ages and all the regulations have been really strict when we've been back, that's never been a problem, but I think it is going to be now.

Not sure how best to manage that really. I don't want people to feel uncomfortable in their workplace, or sitting on a train with me and so on. But on the other hand I'm not planning to make myself feel uncomfortable by continuing to wear masks a second longer than I have to, so.

hilbil21 · 22/02/2022 18:16

Railing against the fact that 23 months down the line is the first I knew of self isolation being guidance not law. I feel they've been quite dishonest with this.

Dinoteeth · 22/02/2022 18:17

@Scottishskifun noway! We were talking about holidays the other day and DH mentioned Malta as an option. But not a chance am I putting my kids in masks for a holiday.

I'll be glad to loose masks. But it's got to be individual choice if individuals want to wear masks that is their choice but people need to be given the true figures to base their decision- ie the size of covid particals vs the size of holes in masks.

Scottishskifun · 22/02/2022 18:42

@Dinoteeth yep indoors and out 3 and over currently unless triple vax max 2 people together outdoors then not required. I nearly booked then when checking entry requirements on the govt page it popped up!

imstilljenny2 · 22/02/2022 19:04

@GoldenOmber it got quite personal very quickly. A colleague gravely said that she would continue to wear her mask to protect people like her 80 year old mum. How could I answer that? If I say I don't care and want to walk about shops showing off my new lipstick it makes me sound like a monster!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 22/02/2022 19:18

Did anyone note if there was snything about close contacts and whether they are still supposed to test every day? Is test and protect staying? I haven't got the energy to seek out the info among all the nonsense they put out.

I won't be wearing a mask after 21 March. No chance.

Personally I would respond with unfortunately they don't unless your wearing a FFP2 which majority of people dont as shown by the studies but entirely your choice to continue should you wish.

Cismyfatarse · 22/02/2022 19:39

I am railing against Boots Opticians. I got a contact lens stuck (Ow!) and it tore and the process of getting it out made my eye very sore. I usually go to a Specsavers near home. The one near work had no appointments at all.

So, I booked at Boots. Just wanted a quick check of my eye. Nothing more. Told it would be £35. OK....

Got there. Booking confirmed. Waited 10 minutes. They couldn't see me because Covid.

Because Covid? What?

Luckily I got a walk in elsewhere (no charge ). What are these people on?

mapleleavesreturn · 22/02/2022 19:43

Really poor show of boots cis I've torn contacts in my eye (definitely not related to falling asleep in them, oh no) and never been charged!

I agree with scottish people feel entitled to effectively making out you're some sort of devil may care granny murderer but asking for them to show you the scientific evidence would, I assume, be fighting talk.

imstilljenny2 · 22/02/2022 19:43

@Scottishskifun I'll keep that up my sleeve for the next time I'm made to feel bad.

ResilienceWanker · 22/02/2022 19:59

Exactly. There was a QC on twitter who thought there could be something about "reckless endangerment" being relevant (like the requirements for businesses being part of Elf-n-Safety law rather than under the Covid legislation) but there isn't, and never has been a specific covid law to self isolate, despite the serious implication that there was.

At the time England bought in the legislation JS and NS were saying how horrific and illiberal it was and "we care, in Scotland, and won't criminalise people who have no choice but to leave the house" - ignoring the fact that there were exemptions in English law for that, just as there were exemptions in Scotland's (and Eng/Wales) law on face coverings . It was entirely political, I'm sure... But there really is no excuse for criticising England for adopting the same approach! I'm sure BJ won't adopt the "just because you can doesn't mean you should" mantra though.

Dinoteeth · 22/02/2022 20:02

People have been brainwashed into thinking masks do something. Which is why I feel they need to be honest and say how small the covid virus actually is vs how big the holes in mask are.

ResilienceWanker · 22/02/2022 20:06

Yes, I can totally see this happening. Though I think it happened a bit down south too, but is less pronounced now as people get used to it, and realise that actually, yes, there is a difference between a train at rush hour and a shop in the middle of the day with 2 other people in... And it is possible to sometimes wear a mask and sometimes not without it being a huge and unmanageable step. Or not wear a mask, but stay a good distance from others. Or all sorts.

Unless you stray onto the MN covid board which is still mask-tastic.

mapleleavesreturn · 22/02/2022 20:12

Or god forbid, look at any of the US covid Twitter threads where schools should still be shut and people masked at all times

ResilienceWanker · 22/02/2022 20:12

I think ( but not 100% sure) that the guidance on testing isn't changing at the moment, with a review in March when they will realise there is no way WM is giving them the tests so will have to change tack The only thing different is that the current guidance on testing every time you leave the house to go shopping (yeah, right) is changing (but not til Monday Hmm) to "test twice a week". But I'm pretty sure the close contact testing is staying, at least while there are still universal free tests.
ResilienceWanker · 22/02/2022 20:17

Ooooh cismyfatarse - you've made my eyes go all twitchy now. That sounds so painful. Glad you've got it sorted. But WTAF boots. Not wanting to sound flippant but surely, they have one job... and it's looking at people's eyes.. It's hardly a surprise that you want that if you've made an appointment now, is it...
