@Tomorrowisanewday

Is there an announcement on masks generally this week (for them being no longer mandatory in shops etc from Monday 18th)?
I was wondering about that too. There's usually an official announcement on the Tuesday afternoon before something is due to happen.

After having the masks goalposts being continually changed, because we must be prudent and careful, I'm finally fairly optimistic that they will go (due to the looming elections), not the overwhelming pissed-offness of the general public.

readsalotgirl63 · 11/04/2022 15:23

I've stopped wearing a mask although feel a wee bit guilty as so many people do still seem to be wearing them on public transport and in shops.

WouldBeGood · 11/04/2022 16:03

I don’t feel guilty because they don’t work 🤷🏻‍♀️

Really cannot wait for it to be official though

I know they don't work but I was surprised at how self-conscious I felt when on the subway without one in a carriage where most were masked

WouldBeGood · 11/04/2022 16:24

Yes, I get that. It makes me feel a bit anxious too. I have just been to the shop and was thinking how refreshing it will be when they go, like a weight off my mind

I don’t feel guilty because as @WouldBeGood says I don’t think they work so don’t think I’m putting anyone at additional risk by not wearing one. I do sometimes feel self conscious though, and worry someone will confront me about it because there do seem to be a few people who have really bought into this.

I have noticed there are a lot fewer people wearing them now though, and in some places like the gym or soft play it’s hardly anyone at all! I reckon that breaking up the mask rule so that some places are exempt but others not has massively confused everyone, with most people coming down on the side of not wearing one of they’re not sure.

Dinoteeth · 11/04/2022 16:32

I've stopped too. I know they don't work but at the same time I feel guilty and worry how I'd feel if I caught the covid. But at the same time what's the point in me being masked when my two kids with me are mask free.

WouldBeGood · 11/04/2022 18:01

I caught the covid off DD20 visiting me 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really think the risk on public places is small

I’m trying not to get my hopes up about the mask rules finally going. Too many moved goalposts now. Local elections coming up might swing it but given how attached the SNP seem to be to the things, and how baffled they are by the idea anyone might not want to wear one forever, I don’t know.

So mentally preparing myself for another kick of the van down the road and another justification. Maybe “as the Westminster lot won’t fund tests any more, we can’t be sure how many cases there are, so out of an abundance of caution…»

runningpink · 11/04/2022 18:41

Iv also stopped wearing them, even went into a restaurant at weekend without one and it felt so good!
Only downside is I’m too skint to go to all the shops I haven’t been in for 2 years!

But I cannot wait to escape to England for a few days next month and have some proper normality!

I think there will be a riot if she moves the goal posts again

runningpink · 13/04/2022 06:39

Ok so she wasn’t on her podium yesterday so does that mean maskless will go ahead from Monday then? Or am I being naive to assume this is the case
I’m no longer wearing them but it would be good to see peoples faces again and also stop all this nonsense

mibbelucieachwell · 13/04/2022 09:10

I'm confused about this too @runningpink . I didn't listen to her statement when the date April 18 was mentioned. I did hear her statement specifically about mask wearing and tolok it that 18th was a definite date but the next day the media seemed to be presenting it as up for review. Confused

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 13/04/2022 10:18

Various work places I know of plus schools/after care etc are taking the 18th as definite. It makes sense as that’s when free mass testing officially ends (although try and get hold of tests now) and thus the requirement to isolate and the pandemic for all intents and purposes. I’ve stopped already in most places, but am taking the 18th to be freedom day —a mere 2 months late—

GoldenOmber · 13/04/2022 16:01

It’s official! www.gov.scot/news/use-of-face-coverings/

“The legal requirement to wear face coverings in most indoor public spaces and on public transport will become guidance next week.”

Obviously still ‘strongly recommended’ and coronavirus hasn’t gone away and etc etc etc as expected, but they have actually stuck to a date!

mibbelucieachwell · 13/04/2022 16:24

Yassssss. Thanks for posting this @GoldenOmber

WouldBeGood · 13/04/2022 18:08

Hurray!!!!!

Scianel · 13/04/2022 18:22

Yay!!!!!
It'll be so nice not to have to do that little internal brace before walking in unmasked to especially smaller places, that was so pleasantly noticeable in it's absence when I went to the Lakes.
I'm actually amazed they've finally stuck to a date.

titsintiers · 13/04/2022 18:38

Tfft

readsalotgirl63 · 13/04/2022 18:46

Yay

QueenWatevraWaNabi · 13/04/2022 18:56

Amazing!! Although I stopped when dancemom's updates ended anyway 🤭

Dinoteeth · 13/04/2022 20:08

Yes at long last

Aurea · 13/04/2022 23:03

Does anyone know about face masks in hospitals? I guess that will be continuing? Thanks!

mibbelucieachwell · 13/04/2022 23:17

@Aurea Until covid, face masks in hospitals were usually worn only by theatre staff, manly to avoid being splashed with bodily fluids. So I'm hoping they won't continue routinely after April 18th. It must be awful for everyone who currently has to wear them, especially for long periods of time.
The guidance isn't very clear with its 'most indoor public places'.

My lovely DM lamented the end of the system of matrons who were in charge of their own ward and would take pride in keeping them clean. When cleaning is contracted out there doesn't seem to be any scope for cleaning as and when required.

I wonder about hospital ventilation. Do hospitals still have windows that open?

Aurea · 13/04/2022 23:19

Thanks you @mibbelucieachwell
I'm going in for surgery so hopefully I won't need to wear this on the ward? I think I'll be in for three nights.
With thanks.

Scottishskifun · 14/04/2022 07:40

I do find it slightly bizarre that after the months of show boating, podiums etc there wasn't a official announcement made by NS this week about them going!
The skeptic in me thinks it's because she doesn't want to highlight it!
