@WouldBeGood

I was a staunch remainer but have to concede that the UK has done much better than the EU in relation to support for Ukraine as with the vaccine roll our.

It also makes me very aware that, with the way the world is, I would not like to live in a defenceless tiny country, like an independent Scotland.

The SNP and Alba also have worrying ties with Russia.

I feel so sad for the Ukrainian people.

Totally agree @WouldBeGood. The threat from Russia is yet another reason why it would not be good for Scotland to go it alone as an independent country.
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/02/2022 17:33

School here has confirmed no masks in class, but still in common areas. DS was quick to point out how useless it was to keep in corridors as he's far less likely to catch covid from someone he passes by for a second than from someone he is sat next to in class.

RaraRachael · 27/02/2022 17:39

We've had no guidance on mask wearing after tomorrow (primary). I have no intention of wearing one for one minute longer than is absolutely necessary so will be royally pissed of if schools are still expected to wear them.

Are anyone else's schools still having 2m distancing between staff? For our staff meetings we all have to sit (around 25 of us) in a massive circle in the high-ceilinged hall, listening to muffled talk that we can't understand. Complete and utter shite.

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2022 00:52

Railing against NS and the SG using the plight of Ukraine to make political points. Despicable

Scottishskifun · 28/02/2022 04:14

@wouldbegood I was utterly gobsmacked by NS sisters tweet about Borris defending the independence of Ukraine whilst ignoring Scotland......its disgusting!

Political point scoring in such a crisis is shameful regardless of which party. Yes apply pressure if elements should be addressed but that's very different to what they are doing on twitter

mapleleavesreturn · 28/02/2022 07:40

Surprised they resisted point scoring for this long - I'll see if I see any SNP supporters being bundled into police vans to be beaten up on my way to the dentist. Oh wait, the police are devolved.

Haudyourwheesht · 28/02/2022 09:44

@RaraRachael They're still advising us to keep 2 metres distance, but realistically we're having lunch and breaks with much less than 2 metres between us.

Staff and dept meetings are still on Teams though. Which suits me just fine. Grin

runningpink · 28/02/2022 12:16

Can I rail about the adverts constantly still preaching at us to be good boys and girls! Enough already!

Dinoteeth · 28/02/2022 12:29

WTAF!!!
Scotland had a democratic vote what 10 years ago people voted to stay part of the United Kingdom, hardly comparable to tanks on the streets firing missiles.

I pray for the people of Ukraine, there are no winners in war, just pain and heartache on both sides. Please let their be peace.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 28/02/2022 12:41

It's utterly heartbreaking seeing what is happening in Ukraine. I did see that one of the SNP's MPs (Angus McNeil I think) has been using the crisis to further the independence cause ('if only we were independent, we would be more caring than the evil UK' type of thing). Absolutely sickening, contemptible human being who looks at others suffering and sees an opportunity to push his cause. And Scotland's situation, having recently had a democratic referendum and decided by a large margin to remain part of the UK (where we live peacefully) is obviously completely different to a country being bombed and invaded from a hostile foreign country - shame on anyone who tries to use the suffering of these people to argue otherwise.

Scottishskifun · 28/02/2022 13:50

@dinoteeth yep I said the same thing when it popped up!

How dim! Yes we'd love to support the Ukraine refugees. But there is 44m of them and what 5m of us. A female and a child big deal.
Scotland wouldn't be able to feed that many people never mind house them. We'd run out of food in a few days then what?

It'd no bad thing that other countries have got equally powerful weapons. Knowing if Russia fires they'll be a missile or two straight back at them is likely to be the only thing that stops Putin or his friends from going fuck it. They might not care what happens elsewhere but I'd like to think one of them would care about their own kids or Granny getting bombed.

OnceUponAWhine · 28/02/2022 16:52

From Twitter today:

While we're being directed to look at the conflict in Ukraine, confirmation that lockdowns were a disaster is being quietly published in the background."No-lockdown policy WAS right and countries that enforced them had 'significantly worse outcomes"
With report attached if you search.

Also today on Twitter:
Ruth Wishart, the grievance granny of Scotland saying Liz Truss has ‘a face you would never tire of skelping’

Appalling comment. It would be good to see NS use her Twitter for good use, to confirm they don’t condone any comments of this nature in reference to a female politician. I won’t hold my breath…

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2022 17:34

@OnceUponAWhine I am feeling properly vindicated for my granny killing views 🤣

So saddened to read this comment.

Yep, even zero-COVID *haven New Zealand has discovered that you have to pay the toll sometime and are currently experiencing the inevitable massive wave of infection that comes when an population opens up and actually deals with COVID for the first time. They are exclusively reliant on vaccine-mediated immunity with very little natural or hybrid immunity, and so unfortunately are likely to have a very high peak now and be hit pretty hard. Hope their infrastructure can cope.

*apart from the barring of citizens from returning for years, illegal vaccine mandates and street protests, obs.

Dinoteeth · 28/02/2022 19:41

@StarryEyeSurprise

Sorry my post is a sad read, but it's unfortunately true. A woman and a child is a drop in the ocean of Ukrainians.
And if it wasn't for a Cold War scenario with the heavy weapons. Then the world would be fucked!

WouldBeGood · 28/02/2022 19:56

I really don’t think that it’s a good look for the SG to be using this to rail against the UK.

OP posts:
Dinoteeth · 28/02/2022 21:28

I don't think anyone should be using it politically either.
It's just heartbreaking. I'm not the most religious but I've been praying for peace in Ukraine.

It's your attitude that saddens me.

'We'd run out of food in a few days.'

What I'm trying to say is Scotland is a small nation, we could not possibly open the doors freely to the Ukrainians, 44 million of them, even if just 5% , 2.2 m of Ukrainians thought it would be a good idea to head for Scotland, Scotland would not be able to feed them.
That would be like adding almost half our population. The infrastructure just couldn't cope.

StarryEyeSurprise · 01/03/2022 07:01

Half a million have left Ukraine IN TOTAL so far.

Romania has 32,000 refugees. The Polish are allowing free travel in their country.

We can help. The UK is still not allowing any refugees in who don't already have family here. 0. Ireland / the EU changed their rules last weekend.

'We will run out of food' is just so ignorant.

OnceUponAWhine · 01/03/2022 07:47

The infrastructure just couldn't cope.

Dino is correct. It doesn’t mean Dino isn’t feeling sad, nor are we helpless as a nation. Already so many ways we can help or contribute with goods, if we are able to.
Besides, many don’t want to leave their country, this isn’t a case of suddenly all former residents of the main cities are refugees. The opposite in fact, so we can support them to stay where they have lives, including family, jobs, homes, help to sustain infrastructure and communications (see Starlink, etc). We will help again with long term recovery.

This really isn’t a situation for points scoring over who is willing to take in refugees. Let’s rail and be grateful we are free to do so today.

Dinoteeth · 01/03/2022 07:54

Thanks @OnceUponAWhine, only a small number may have left so far that doesn't mean millions more won't follow.

Things holding them back will be the physical issues of leaving, few trains, no fuel, where do you actually go too, how do you feed your children while fleeing, where do you sleep.
I pray that Russia retreat.
