Checking in. Happy Friday

ElephantOfRisk · 17/09/2021 12:50

Happy friday folks! Still not got a laptop or any idea when it might be ready. Decided to stop stressing about it. I can't do anything about it. My agreed hours this week were 9-12 so I'm finished and will pop out to collect it from the office if I get a call but otherwise going to stop fretting about it.

In other news, I phoned GPs today about my fit note since it's been a week since I used the on-line service, on their website, to ask for one. Reception had no idea what service I was talking about and no idea where those requests would even go....so I'm back to square one and need to call next week to see if it's been done as she's now put in a request for me . Bizarre!

Groovee · 17/09/2021 12:53

Parking my bum for later. Those nursery germs have got me.

ssd · 17/09/2021 13:06

Hi all. @ElephantOfRisk, thats so annoying. You have to wonder is there any logic left in the world Confused

Yes, she was muttering about maybe they come in as an email...i'm not blaming her btw, just that a system has appeared on their website that doesn't appear to be known about or linked to anything so I feel i've just given my personal details to the ether... Sad

I also had a note posted out to me that went missing in the mail so the world and his brother has this info anyway.

What does annoy me is that neither that system or even when they speak to you, are you ever told what to do next, you are just supposed to know how this note will appear. Previously they just said they'd arrange and hung up and not until i called back days later wondering what was happening did they tell me that the GP wanted to speak to me. And this time she tried to hang up while I was asking how I'd find out if and when the note was ready. On the on-line thing, you submit it but at no point does it say what happens and when you should call or if you get a message back or whatever. I'm sorry but my crystal ball is on the blink.

mapleleavesreturn · 17/09/2021 13:35

Got to love that about nhs IT, it's so bad nobody can trust it. I'm amazed when a repeat prescription does actually land in the pharmacy without several rounds of phone tennis.

Scottishskifun · 17/09/2021 13:44

Parking my behind 😂

ResilienceWanker · 17/09/2021 13:46

Thanks for the new thread would. Filled up the last one in about a fortnight I think. That's some serious railing.

That sounds crazy elephant. I know what you mean about not understanding processes. Getting a new prescription seems a mystery to me... I fill in a form online. Sometimes it goes through and I call up the pharmacy in a couple of days to check and it's there. Sometimes it takes a week, sometimes it doesn't go through at all, and all record of me ever having ordered it has vanished from the system so I have to start again. Sometimes I have to go in and get my BP taken, sometimes they are happy with the home reading I provide. Sometimes they prescribe me something different to what I ask for. Who knows...? Teaches me to be organised and start the process a fortnight early, I suppose. Im sure if you work with the NHS it all makes sense and becomes second nature - but for me it's entirely mysterious and I kind of feel like I have no control, which is a bit annoying.

Just getting myself seated!

Checking in although I'm way behind with the thread

sartorius · 17/09/2021 15:04

Ah yes the idiosyncrasies of nhs!

Reminds of GP practice I went to on a couple occasions where I was living in my early 20s.
Receptionist handed you a card with a number on it (1-4)
You had to go to waiting room and find person with number before you. Then keep an eye for them coming out and you knew you were next when a buzzer sounded. WTF!!
Of course 1st time you went they didn't tell you any of this 🤷🏼‍♀️

mibbelucieachwell · 17/09/2021 15:33

Afternoon all.

Encouraging numbers today. Hospital numbers down including ITU.

NS We can read these figures so you can try to BS us about covid being the cause of the ambulance situation but it won't work.

Sorry to be late to the party but re Kaye Adams doing a phone in on the mostly online uni situation I love her as a presenter. She's head and shoulders better than Stephen Jardine, Jackie Brambles and the younger woman (whose name I've forgotten). IMO. Would there be enough people willing to go on air to defend the situation though? I don't think there would.

Wishing everyone a stress free weekend. Mine has started cos I'm a slacker Grin

Scottishskifun · 17/09/2021 15:54

Let's hope they start to come down quickly still!
😂 I am chuckling at Jason Leitch saying the same thing as us here on ONS stats that they tend to be behind! Don't worry though Scotland is still winning on infection rate and for Europe as well. Love how effective our cautious approach and legal requirements make a big difference to preventing covid..........

Wonder when they will stop with the bs of "not apologising for caution and public health crisis".......

Ianrankinfan · 17/09/2021 16:20

@Starryeyesurprise .. The figures of GPS per head of population are misleading because they do not convey how many hours are actually worked by each individual GP. At one point ,about 2 years ago , two thirds of General Practitioners in Scotland worked part time , so you can see how that would affect trying to get an appointment. The Scottish Government very conveniently don’t point this out .

Scottishskifun · 17/09/2021 16:33

@Ianrankinfan misleading figures from SG.... Never 😉

My area is chronically under resourced we have 2 community midwives instead of 7 (many left when SG changed the system so that they had to be on call 4 days a week minimum), 7 GPs for over 15,000 patients and 3 are part time and its a 40 mile round trip to my dentist as the two available in my area haven't taken on new NHS patients for over 3 years.
But a large amount of NHS funding this budget was in NHS IT systems so we can all do virtual appointments 🙄

tiredoftiers · 17/09/2021 16:38

I think the numbers today are sadly only one days numbers, not two.
Apparently the delay for test results is quite significant

OnceUponAWhine · 17/09/2021 16:41

Wow, 13. Sigh.

That’s shocking. The Scottish Government pledged to recruit an extra 800 GPs by 2027 but Audit Scotland says that the figure will be almost unchanged from the current number . The report warns that the Scottish Government’s efforts to develop workforce planning for GP’s have been slow. The primary care workforce is under such pressure. It’s terrible. Rural Areas are facing major recruitment and retention issues.

Don’t know if I’m railing or just sobbing. DD has just had a positive lft so we are all now pcr tested and waiting for results. She had to do a test as she has her first competition in her sport in 19 months tomorrow. It’s been a bloody hard slog getting to this point, keeping training and staying fit enough. And now she’s going to miss this one and the next, with a big gap until there’s another chance to compete. I’m so sad for her. She’s floored tonight 😢
