Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

Ah sorry cross posted

ElephantOfRisk · 09/09/2021 16:01

I think what I'm thinking of is your BMR

www.checkyourhealth.org/eat-healthy/cal_calculator.php

ElephantOfRisk · 09/09/2021 16:03

this shows how to calculate BMR but there might be an easier way and at first look it doesn't account for breastfeeding

www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/bmr-formula.php

Can you add in breastfeeding as an activity in MFP?

ElephantOfRisk · 09/09/2021 16:06

A protein shake might also be good - especially for us older ladies (and men) who have a higher protein requirement. Usually quite filling and tasty (especially if you use milk or even half milk instead of water). Especially useful after exercise (so I'm told... Grin )

WouldBeGood · 09/09/2021 16:07

Yes, the pt recommends protein shakes.

ElephantOfRisk · 09/09/2021 16:13

DH uses the Phd Diet shakes (very reasonable price in Costco), they are really tasty - might also help with some of the sweet tooth people as at least it has something good and filling in it rather than a mars bar.

shouldistop · 09/09/2021 16:15

God I fancy a Mars bar Grin dinner in 45 mins thankfully so I'll just drink some water.

Oops sorry!

I think the tip for those it to cut into slices and freeze and just take one slice out to nibble on if you feel the need.

I'm about to start making dinner but just had an ice-pole to keep me going

WeeM · 09/09/2021 19:33

I got some low cal cookie dough ice cream from Aldi today, the whole tub is only about 370 calories so looking forward to a wee treat later

ElephantOfRisk · 09/09/2021 20:23

That sounds nice - let us know how it tastes.

runningpink · 09/09/2021 21:52

1200 calories or less isn’t sustainable long term.
Or people tend to stick to that amount m-th but the weekend consume double type thing but don’t realise.

Check Team RH on Facebook. The guy does talk sense once you filter through the waffle and swearing!
He is all about 15k a day, 3x weights, water, protein and fibre.
You eat what you want as long as you make what you eat hit the protein and fibre targets so nothing is forbidden.

I failed this evening, went to the supermarket for a big shop when I was tired and hungry.
So of course chocolate jumped into my trolley!
Back on it tomorrow.

I also buy the small loafs of bread as feel like I can justify two slices

shouldistop · 10/09/2021 06:11

Yeah I've never found 1200 sustainable, maybe only for 5-7 days then I'm so hungry I eat everything and fall off the wagon.
Been up most of the night with the baby, I'm starving because I've been awake so long but hopefully a cup of tea will take the edge off til 9.30.

WouldBeGood · 10/09/2021 08:12

The bad sleep thing really makes losing weight difficult. I’ve recently found out that it makes you release a hunger hormone, so there’s a proper scientific reason for it!

shouldistop · 10/09/2021 08:16

It's definitely a lot more tempting to eat crap when I've had no sleep. Still haven't caved, we don't have any crap in the house and I'm not going to the shop today. Hopefully no one tries to pressure me into a dessert at BIL birthday dinner later. I can't just have a little bit, I find it easier just avoiding all together.

traintraveller · 10/09/2021 08:36

Dieting (or whatever you want to call it) is such a personal thing and not one size fits all. I know what works for me in the short and longer term and to maintain and it's served me well over the past few years. What I now need to figure out is how to tweak it to accommodate chronic illness, injury and the perimenopause/ HRT. Shame I didn't appreciate how easy it was in my 20s!!

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 10/09/2021 11:10

My BMI is officially 30.

Which is still obese but not by much. That's the lowest it's been in...well, I've no idea.

Woohoo, can't wait for the day I'm just overweight Grin

ElephantOfRisk · 10/09/2021 11:28

@BlameItOnTheBlackStar I've been where you are now and a bit above. Getting into overweight is a real boost, good luck with getting there. I'm no hovering at the bottom of overweight and hoping to get into "normal" soon. The top of normal is still too heavy for my frame to be honest so realistically I probably have a stone and a half to go rather than about 5lbs.

As an adult pre kids I was still 4 stone lighter than my current weight and looked pretty normal (bottom of normal weight bmi) so at my age i'd be happy with somewhere in the middle.

Hope all doing well today :)

BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 10/09/2021 11:31

I don't think I'll ever tip into 'normal' tbh, and I think I'm ok with that.

I've lost 8kg this year, and I'd like to lose another five then see where I am.

Absolutely out of nowhere I've gone off drinking, which has been a massive help!

ElephantOfRisk · 10/09/2021 11:42

That's really amazing in terms of loss @BlameItOnTheBlackStar you should be totally pleased with that. When I lost a lot last year i bought some slightly too small jeans in the sale figuring i was not far from getting in them - then i put a lot of weight back on. I'd be really chuffed if i manage to wear them instead of opting for stretchy waists... I'm nearly getting comfortable in the size above those so i'm looking at those as an incentive. I'm happy for now to continue really slowly as it's definitely dealt with portion sizes/hunger and I'm not bothered about alcohol either. It's the boredom and emotional snacking i need to tackle. Our family meals are generally not that unhealthy, i was just eating too much of them. DH and DSs are 6'2 plus so I definitely don't need to dish myself the same as them. We don't do takeaway very often so that also helps.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 10/09/2021 12:09

I manage OK on 1200 calories a day, but I don't eat breakfast. I haven't eaten at all today so far, usually have lunch about 12.30 then dinner at 6/7 and try not to eat after that.

Yesterday I had for lunch 2 x slices of toast with an egg scrambled with half a bag of spinach and some mushrooms. And a banana. Half way through the afternoon had a caramel wafer and coffee. Dinner was a smoked salmon and potato salad thing grabbed from M&S as I was in a rush - super tasty and it was only about 270 calories. A small iced fairy cake as a treat.

I also use My Fitness Pal which is excellent and pulls through any walking you do and presents it as extra calories. Tried to have a longer walk today as DH has announced we're having an Indian tonight which is hardly the healthiest choice.

shouldistop · 10/09/2021 13:08

Well done @BlameItOnTheBlackStar that's a great loss.

On my way home from ashtanga yoga, think she's trying to kill us Grin I can feel myself getting stronger though.

Today I've had 30g of porridge with ss milk, 2 spoons of cottage cheese & an apple. I still feel pretty full.

whatthehelldowecare · 11/09/2021 21:27

Can I join too? I got married at the end of July and after a manic diet to fit into the dress I bought pre-lockdown I've been on the blow out of all blow outs since... can count on both hands the amount of dinners I've actually cooked for myself since the wedding..

I'm spending the weekend clearing the house of eating all the bad stuff and starting Monday!

traintraveller · 12/09/2021 09:44

whatthehelldowecare congratulations and well done on fitting into the dress, that is my current problem as well.

shouldistop · 12/09/2021 09:57

@whatthehelldowecare congratulations 🥳

shouldistop · 12/09/2021 09:58

Well I had a Chinese for dinner yesterday Blush 2lbs up on the scales this morning but I'm hoping it's water retention from the salty food.
