Thought a wee separate thread would be handy to keep us all going and for the kick up the bums we need, tips and motivation

OP posts:
WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 09/05/2022 23:15

😂

WouldBeGood · 10/05/2022 12:41

I’ve redeemed myself! Been a run.! Only one run left in wk5 then last week 😱

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/05/2022 13:14

Well done! I stayed on track with calories yesterday, and have so far resisted cake in my office. Planning on a bodypump class later hopefully.

How's that food plan coming along @mapleleavesreturn ? Are you keeping up with the counting @TeeNoG ? It does get easier the more you use the app as foods you have regularly are already saved.

Hope everything ok with you @runningpink

TeeNoG · 10/05/2022 14:30

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I am! I'm actually finding it really helpful - I log all my food at the start of the day, and then I know what I have left to use on snaccidents 😄

It's also quite helpful learning exactly where I have been going wrong - depressing, but helpful 😂

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 10/05/2022 18:07

That's brilliant. I love 'snaccidents'!

It is a little traumatic discovering how much calories some things have or what is considered a portion of something (looking at you, sharing bags of crisps).

I resisted cake all day! Had to eat dinner earlier than normal so couldn't get my class in beforehand but will try and motivate myself later once my food is digested!

TeeNoG · 11/05/2022 10:20

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I can remember the first time I actually looked at how many calories were in a pizza. It was devastating, I LOVE pizza and could easily eat a whole one.

Well done on avoiding cake!

WouldBeGood · 11/05/2022 10:57

Yeah, pizza is like crack to me.

it really helped me with portion sizes. And I’m lucky as I’m big and fat so lord of calories allowed 🤣

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/05/2022 17:16

So i did actually have a snaccident today! All related to forgetting my lunch! But should still stay within cals.

Trying to motivate myself to do some exercise...

WouldBeGood · 11/05/2022 17:29

Anything goes if it’s within the calories, @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo !

i had a very brief gym session today. Going to run tomorrow. I’m hoping to have located a flatter location 🤣

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 11/05/2022 20:00

Flat running always good!! I didn't do an exercise class in the end, but I went out for a short walk instead. Clearly the right decision as I was very tired and no feel a bit wiped out. Clearly not fully recovered!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/05/2022 12:39

I ended up going over food calories, but I didn't use up all my daily exercise calories, so should have still peerages at a deficit yesterday!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 12/05/2022 12:39

Operated, not peerages. I don't know what goes on with autocorrect sometimes!!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 13/05/2022 19:24

Hello! How is everyone doing? My calorie counting still hasn't been brilliant (absolutely blaming after-covid) but I have done my Friday night bodycombat. Felt a bit sluggish afterwards rather than my usual 'check me, killer workout, let's have wine now, endorphins) but also putting that down to after-covid.

Hope everyone is managing to achieve some goals!

mapleleavesreturn · 13/05/2022 20:13

Not a bad week, not great - derailed by birthday and actual in person school events (!) this week mandating buffet and fine dining consumption...

I'm planning a parsimonious weekend - I've found an amazing tomato/aubergine/peppers from Isle of Wight delivery and I'm planning a lot of tomato based salads this weekend!

Any favourite tomato recipes you're welcome to post!!

@WhatWouldTheDoctorDo I felt knackered for about 3-4 weeks post covid, really strange. would impressive exercise chugging!

mapleleavesreturn · 13/05/2022 20:15

@TeeNoG for me it was chips - gotten into a bad chip habit during lockdown down and it was a shock how many chips the 'recommended' serving is for the calories.

WouldBeGood · 14/05/2022 10:08

Hello all, and sounds good @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo , despite post covid tiredness, and @mapleleavesreturn .

The tomatoes delivery sounds great!

Did my first 25 minute “non-stop” run on Thursday, embarrassing as only marginally quicker than a Walker 🤣But done. PT yesterday and another run to do this morning once I fire myself into action. Had a pizza last night (and fries!) but will bbq steak tonight so not too bad overall. I’m looking on this as a long term plan
now so happy to eat something/have wine if I really fancy it.

Enjoy the weekend everyone, I think it’s to be nice tomorrow and hopefully less freezing!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/05/2022 15:20

Well done on the run @WouldBeGood!

I've had a bit of an indulgent weekend, but about to do a body pump class and got in around 15K steps yesterday so I don't feel too bad about it! I'm with you on the long term @WouldBeGood, if I can eat healthily most of the time I'll happily have the odd treat day or weekend. We're having bbq steak later too!

runningpink · 15/05/2022 19:58

Hi all,
Sorry for the silence this end. Been struggling with life in general and feeling a bit down.
Feeling lonely despite being around people. If I could afford to I would seriously consider moving nearer the city to be nearer friends/more social opportunities.
Work stuff getting me down and fed up of bad people moving on with life and getting what they want type stuff. Know Im being ridiculous and need to get over myself

Running is improving and injury is actually not hurting anymore so taking that as a positive. Still being cautious though.

Food wise…I’m addicted to sugar and don’t know how to break that cycle

Really struggled with tiredness last week. But don’t know why

Sounds like you are all making amazing progress with the running and calorie counting. Very proud of you all

Oh, @runningpink you’re having a hard time, sorry 💐 Glad at least the running is going well.

mine is always absolutely rubbish, but I plod on. I don’t think I realised how fat I’d got tbh. Till I tried to lose it.

i find your thread great for motivating me when I can’t be arsed!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/05/2022 10:39

Sorry you're having a tough time @runningpink

Good news on the running/injury, but tiredness/sugar/food choices is a really tough cycle to get out of.

I've not had a great 6 weeks or so with one thing and another and I've been really tired due to covid which has me reaching for the snacks all the time.

I know what works for me is meal planning, strict calorie counting (that leaves room for small treats and wine) and regular exercise. But the calorie counting is the most effective. And coming on this thread motivates me when I'm wavering!

Maybe worth a look at Tom Watson's downsizing book. I think he deals a lot with sugar in it. He lost a huge amount of weight and really turned his life around health wise (disclaimer, I know him, though not well).

It's Monday - a new week! Hope everyone has some manageable goals to keep them on the straight and narrow!!

mapleleavesreturn · 16/05/2022 13:43

Sunshine helps me - I need some!!!! @runningpink you're doing well it isn't easy staying upbeat at al especially with all the bigger picture doom and gloom in the news.

Also a sugar addict - I find upping fibre and protein, getting enough sleep help. But honestly, it's my favourite mistake...

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/05/2022 16:38

Good point on the protein @mapleleavesreturn while tired and lethargic in recent weeks I've been reaching for the carbs and sweet treats, but it's a vicious circle.

WouldBeGood · 16/05/2022 16:56

Upping my protein has made me so full!

well done on weekend exercise @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo

i need warmth too, @mapleleavesreturn. it’s like winter today.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 16/05/2022 17:40

My problem with the sun is that inevitably leads to DH getting the bbq on which always leads to beer or fizz... Grin

Would love some consistent nice weather though, today was miserable!

I have however completed a bodycombat class so feeling virtuous!

runningpink · 17/05/2022 06:59

I will Check that book out @WhatWouldTheDoctorDo thanks

Thats a good point about the protein. Will t try and add more into my meals.

I think I will go back to posting my steps, water etc on here as it’s some accountability for me if that’s ok?

Monday
14k steps
6 miles over two walks
water around 1,500ml I lost track after leaving my bottle at work
Weights
pilates class
Food-Bad!!

Had intended on a cycle but weather was way too grim!

Out a walk now, hoping to squeeze in 3 miles before I need to go out for the morning
