Can’t believe it’s needed….

@latissimusdorsi

Nurses are doing twice weekly Covid tests
Yes my friend is doing that too

But surely the staff not having to isolate is crazy

ssd · 15/06/2021 10:09

The protective gear the nurses wear is bog standard blue face masks. I wear that all day in retail too. No wonder its rife in hospital.

Haudyourwheesht · 15/06/2021 10:18

My friend (a nurse) treated a covid patient while in full PPE and caught covid. Luckily she and her family, while all positive, were all ok with it, but I'd not be putting much faith in PPE. If only she'd been wearing a cloth mask she bought in Primark. 😆

shouldistop · 15/06/2021 10:45

Nurses are doing twice weekly Covid tests

So are lots of people but the isolation rules still stand for them.

Now that healthcare staff should have all been double vaccinated hopefully this will stop being an issue anyway.

RedactedTaeFeck · 15/06/2021 10:46

Exactly re the "protective gear" all part of the farce.

ResilienceWanker · 15/06/2021 10:53

Yes, I suppose the NHS would just be non-functional if the same rules re close contact applied, but it does seem crazy. And I thought it was accepted that all the PPE in the world wasn't entirely effective at preventing catching it. So when the mask thing came in, it was stressed it was mainly to stop people catching it from you by stopping your cough gobs landing on them Envy, but there was some evidence they were protective to the wearer, too. And then went on to cite that surgical masks, used in perfect clinical conditions gave x% protection, cloth masks y%, N95 masks z% and so on. All were less than 100% even with perfect use, and with other PPE in place. So it's hardly surprising medical staff can still catch it even with PPE.

shouldistop · 15/06/2021 12:17

Is there an update today guys?

SoMuchForSummerLove · 15/06/2021 12:24

Yes, to parliament, so probably about 2ish.

riverrunning · 15/06/2021 12:45

Seems widely trailed that there will be a delay to tier 0 announced. Wonder if Edinburgh schools situation will attract further actions.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 15/06/2021 12:52

I wonder if Dundee will be back in Tier 3. I think it would take a lot for them to start backpedalling, but Dundee's numbers are by far the worst in the last week. Then again, hospital numbers aren't particularly worrying. So who knows!

shouldistop · 15/06/2021 13:07

I think given the schools shut for summer soon they'll just leave them be surely?

SoMuchForSummerLove · 15/06/2021 13:08

Yes, most likely. Might be good to have the holidays as a breaker - I saw that more than 1000 pupils are isolating in Dundee!

shouldistop · 15/06/2021 13:14

Yes, the 6 weeks off might help. Our nursery still hasn't had any isolations at all and afaik our primary has only had one.
Not sure about secondary though.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 15/06/2021 13:19

Ours had one last year just before the October holidays, and I think that's been it. Our town is fairly small though and quite rarely goes about the 0-2 suppressed number of cases.

shouldistop · 15/06/2021 15:05

Ehh why is a paper needed for what life will be like beyond level 0?! So we're never going to be back to normal?

riverrunning · 15/06/2021 15:07

'All, or virtually all'. There's the clue. There's a tier -1 I expect

riverrunning · 15/06/2021 15:09

I hate what has happened to all language - politics needs a plain speaking campaign. 'Moving beyond level 0'.

Cheering thoughts. We could have travel restrictions in place again, so that's good news there aren't.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 15/06/2021 15:16

Maybe it's a timeline thing? Not sure.
ResilienceWanker · 15/06/2021 15:19

Whahhhhh. No. While there are remaining restrictions we aren't at normal, are we?! Or close to normal. The removal of all restrictions has to be the aim - surely? Why even suggest that that isn't the ultimate aim?

Also - you can fuck off with your "perceived anomalies in the restrictions". There are exceptions a mile wide. Mostly football related to be fair - but come on... The differences aren't just us being picky - there are absolutely huge inequalities here.

Might be a paper on moving to a more normal public health approach? The sort we already do for STIs and smoking and healthy eating and so on, where the government gives advice but there’s no police yelling “NO HUGGING!” through megaphones.

Maybe stuff like “we encourage employers to let people work from home if they’ve got a cold and a laptop rather than drag themselves into the office just to show face,” sort of thing?

SoMuchForSummerLove · 15/06/2021 15:36

That's what I wondered too @GoldenOmber

To be honest I feel like life is mostly back to normal, so I'm not overly worried about any hangover changes that might remain. Obviously if they affect viability of businesses etc, then it's not great, but on a personal level I don't care.

I did like that she talked about using data to restrict, for example, kids isolating periods after the holidays. Glimmers of hope there. We're so lucky that we've not had to do it yet, and I seem to get more apprehensive the closer we get to the finish line!

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 15/06/2021 15:37

What did she say about the school isolations? I had to leave just as she went onto that

WouldBeGood · 15/06/2021 15:38

Life is so so far from normal.

OP posts:
SoMuchForSummerLove · 15/06/2021 15:39

She just said that they'd look at shortening isolation after the holidays to minimise disruption, as we'll be working towards most adults being fully vaccinated by then. That was it - whether that means 5 days instead of what we have now, for example, she didn't get into that.

WouldBeGood · 15/06/2021 15:45

Oh ffs they need to stop the school isolations.
