Can’t believe it’s needed….

Totally agree on the absurdity of the rules.

Particularly, as I posted on tiers thread, English stats apparently say of people testing positive in hospital 80% caught it there.

I don't know to what extent the staff at Hampden have been asked (I'm guessing not) but it's possible that school / nursery staff are maybe apprehensive about having parents for sports days or similar? Given there are loads of posts from teachers who are upset that they haven't been vaccinated yet, and won't be twice vaccinated before august, it's a possibility.

On a related note - I had no idea I was supposed to wear a mask on an outside station platform. I never have. Blush

Scottishskifun · 14/06/2021 17:17

I don't care about football fans it's great they can enjoy it I just hate that it's one rule for football and another for everyone else!

My rail for the day is the weather in the North West Highlands its so bloody windy that toddler DS refused to walk more than 5 paces!

emmathedilemma · 14/06/2021 17:32

I can't say I blame him @Scottishskifun anyone under 5 stone is having trouble keeping their feet on the ground it's so gusty here!
I'm sick of these stupid rules for some and not for others. My one potentially almost normal weekend in 18 months is now in jeopardy if England extend their restrictions for another 4 weeks :(

Ignorance is no excuse Wink

Yes, you could be right about the teachers, though I'd have thought it would be easy enough to keep them separate from the hordes of rampaging parents.

Our sports day is actually a sports fortnight, with each class having a morning or afternoon of FUN separately, with each class split into 4 "countries" seemingly at random. The points for each country will be added up at the end of the fortnight, and the eventual winner declared. (Crazy system IMO, especially as although there are roughly equal numbers of each country across the school, there aren't in each class - so there were only 2 of them from one country in DSs class. Meaning they "lost" every game as they only got, for example, 2 points for getting an egg into a hoop or whatever nonsense they were doing, whereas the other countries with 6-10 members got more points. But anyway, that's probably a bit of a niche rail). So that would make it reasonably easy to keep the parents separate, especially as not everyone would be able to come during the school day. But we still got the TEXT IN CAPITAL LETTERS telling us we weren't allowed.

ResilienceWanker · 14/06/2021 18:20

Oh no - that's crap emma. I hate how we're all at the whim of politicians at the moment Sad

ResilienceWanker · 14/06/2021 18:29

Anyway - DSs verdict on the football was "the hurtful truth is that Scotland isn't really very good. So Dave* and I switched to supporting the Czechs halfway through" Blush Not really getting the hang of the CfE learning outcome of "developing a crushing sense of disappointment in national sports teams" there, then.

(*not his actual name)

They were allowed to do colouring instead of watching, but not reading or anything else. And DS decided that that was a worse option because "all the pens have dried out and I couldn't find a pencil sharpener". And he seemingly quite enjoyed it. Never knowingly true to his mother's prejudices that child.

Coquohvan · 14/06/2021 18:37

Apologies if I offended you @SoMuch - so fed up with all these ridiculous inconsistent exemptions to some sectors ,football and nothing for others, education. @Icannever found that Randox tests are discounted with a code from Jules Verne Vaccations. www.vjv.com/randox-health-home-testing-kits/ £43 rather than Scotgovs £88

SoMuchForSummerLove · 14/06/2021 18:41

Nah I'm not offended Grin

Scottishskifun · 14/06/2021 18:47

Well I just watched Borris, Tbh I found it quite refreshing!
The "we are going to have to live with this" from the scientists and it will be with us for our lifetimes.
Yes it's rubbish that it's been extended by 4 weeks but they are also adament that it's a delay and not the brakes.

I don't get the same feeling or message when I watch NS! In fact I really hope that she was watching and listening to the scientists on it and it makes them change their approach!

itsjustlowhangingfruit · 14/06/2021 18:49

railing about BJs annoucement. I don't think July will be the end of it. and if it is, I fear it will be a temporary end until Winter. Also we don't know what nippy will say or do up here.

Coquohvan · 14/06/2021 18:51

Bummer 😀
SoMuchForSummerLove · 14/06/2021 18:55

I don't get it! People don't seem to mind Boris backtracking and chopping and changing, but they hate a leader who says 'look, we don't know, we'll keep you up to date though'.

I know it's just a difference in preference but I still don't get how people can prefer finger-in-the-air guessing or just saying what people want to hear, then backtracking weeks later (or the next day in the case of schools).

Cafewithcream · 14/06/2021 18:55

BJ is correct we really do need to live with this. Life needs to go on we can each do what we see fit to keep ourselves feel safe and get on with it.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 14/06/2021 18:59

We are living with it. Most businesses are open again across the country I'm sure.

Haudyourwheesht · 14/06/2021 18:59

I think while she's highly unlikely ever to say it, NS' change of direction of late suggests that's the way the Scottish government are going too. Half the country would be back to level 4 if they were going on case numbers alone.

WouldBeGood · 14/06/2021 19:12

I hate Boris and Nicola both with a visceral passion.

I rail about NS more because she’s the fucker who has more control over my life.

I don't agree with the schools backtrack and they did always say 21st June at the earliest so everyone was hoping but it certainly wasn't a given.

For me it's the clear language, scientists saying this is here to stay it isn't going to go anywhere and sadly it will cause deaths but not in the level but we have to learn to live with it.
When they release restrictions are released and it then becomes personal choice.

NS in comparison aimed for a "elimination strategy" and still hasn't said she's not. Our announcement for tomorrow isn't even releasing all restrictions just to level 0 which is still very far from normal and extremely unlikely to happen! For instance level 0 is still max 15 people outside including private property weddings.
There has been no info on releasing everything and no info on how we live with this going forward. It's never going back in Pandoras box!

Exactly. The FM said months ago it was nonsensical to give an exact date but the PM insisted and we've had the 'freedom day' BS by the press for months. The FM was berated on here and elsewhere for being too cautios yet , unsurprisingly, she was right and he's had to cancel the plans for the 21st.
ssd · 14/06/2021 19:31

It does feel a bit never-ending today. I was quite upbeat but I've hit a wall today. Don't know why. Its hard going keeping yourself up. I cant even be bothered with a drink Sad

StarryEyeSurprise · 14/06/2021 19:37

*cautious even!

latissimusdorsi · 14/06/2021 19:48

Oh sorry to hear that @ssd you've been doing so well recently, getting out loads.
Do you think it's change in the weather? Can you keep making plans to get out and about?

Cafewithcream · 14/06/2021 19:57

Your correct @Scottish the 21st was not a definitive date, more off a target date if the 4 criteria's were met as were previous dates, this time they sadly weren’t met.

WouldBeGood · 14/06/2021 19:58

They’re all far too cautious. It’s time for this to end now. We just need to deal with it. Few deaths, low hospitalisations. Time to crack in or it will be years and years of this.
