Just in case railing remains required.

@tiredoftiers it's been hugely discriminatory and I think this also effects how you feel about it. Have several friends who say they don't know what people complain about so much etc..... But I also have friends who live in cities who are so stuck everywhere is busy for walks so pretty much defeats the purpose. Whereas we can drive nearly 2 hours and still not leave the LA!

runningpink · 12/04/2021 09:57

@RaspberryCoulis not sure I would hold my tongue either! I need answers, or to perhaps understand some of the stuff to help me move forward I think.

I refuse to do another one. I was broken last time and completely and utterly broken this time. I wouldn’t trust myself not to do anything silly if we got locked up again.

If some people still want to wear masks then they can go ahead and make that choice just as we should be allowed to make the choice to not wear them.

Scottishskifun · 12/04/2021 09:59

@runningpink I think they will try to avoid it but there has been hints of more targeted local lock downs. They said a while back that aiming for elimination strategy they would target outbreaks like measles and targeted control measures...... They have gone very quiet since mid Feb on the elimination strategy though even before purdah........ The skeptic in me thinks they realised how unpopular it was and they have an election coming up......

WouldBeGood · 12/04/2021 10:00

Yes, @Scottishskifun.

The thing for me is, if people like a quiet life they can choose that for themselves. It doesn’t mean lockdown isn’t awful for other people.

I think people will look back on this time with horror. Probably soon, when the scale of other deaths, such as those from undiagnosed cancer becomes apparent.

@Scottishskifun even Devi has redefined zero Covid as not zero Covid 😂

I am so jealous of England, doesn’t look like there’s any benefit to us from our ultra cautious approach. I really really really Want to take my kids somewhere fun and not just for another walk. Don’t get me wrong, we’ve had some lovely walks recently, I just miss doing silly fun stuff with the kids so much, like trampoline parks and swimming in Dundee and theme parks and holidays. A whole year with none of these sorts of memories really stinks. And I so miss spontaneous fun you don’t have to book a month in advance for ☹️
Alton towers is open in England and we get car showrooms and garden centres. Joy!
It’s the time of year I have lots of presents to buy for my kids and my nieces and nephews and I like to buy things to do usually so I’m not cluttering up mine and their houses with more plastic junk. There’s nothing to get this year, my kids just want gaming stuff, vr headsets and games for the switch, gaming headsets and bean bags. I feel very sad about this

UnderHisAye · 12/04/2021 10:17

@forfucksakenett

I now am wondering if I dreamt it but I'm sure I read somewhere that Chile are heading into a third wave / lockdown despite a very high vaccination rate. Sad
Yes I read that too. They have only vaccinated about 20% I think and opened things up what looks like too early. Plus they've been using the Chinese vaccine too, which isn't as effective.

I think we're in a better position than that, but we still don't want mutations etc.

tiredoftiers · 12/04/2021 10:17

I think what’s hurting me the most is that it’s the Easter holidays, my little adventurous children are bored. We have extensively explored every wild place we can think of within our guidelines.
My dc1 is old enough to know what the rules are, and he knows that rules are (up until covid) largely rational and are there for a reason. I do not believe there is a huge amount of logic or common sense to them, however I do want my children to grow up law abiding citizens. I’m just not sure that he’s at an age yet to see the difference in that. That’s why I’m choosing to grit my teeth for the next two weeks and get on with it, with a large amount of moaning. If I didn’t have the kids we’d be heading off out with the restrictions.

Icannever · 12/04/2021 10:18

Chili are having another wave but they opened up a lot before hardly anyone was vaccinated and they are using the Chinese vaccination which doesn’t seem to be very effective. 37% of people have been vaccinated with a vaccine that’s 50% effective

Icannever · 12/04/2021 10:19

Sorry @UnderHisAye cross post.

They also have the Brazilian variant to contend with I guess

rookiemere · 12/04/2021 10:20

@tiredoftiers I'm so grateful DS is older so all he wants to do is play football (illegally) with his friends.
I do understand being cautious but opening up travel within Scotland would have been a huge benefit for those still on school holidays and if all the indoor things are still shut it wouldn't have impacted figures too much.

WouldBeGood · 12/04/2021 10:21

We’re nearly at herd immunity here, so no need for more lockdown.

OP posts:
Icannever · 12/04/2021 10:27

I wish I could feel as positive as you @WouldBeGood. I think I’ve just got used to this covid stuff constantly being worse than I’d thought that now I have no confidence in herd immunity or whatever preventing another lockdown. The dread of variants is in my head.
My plan is to enjoy every bit of freedom possible this spring/summer unlike last year when j was cautious and though next year would be better! This year I will take as many holidays and day trips and meals out as possible and take my kids every where that’s open as soon as it opens 😀.

WouldBeGood · 12/04/2021 10:31

Good plan, @Icannever!

I caroused and travelled at every possible permitted opportunity last year, and am bloody glad I did.

I am a bit worried though in case gyms shut again. I spent a fortune and huge amount of effort on getting fitter last year. All gone to pot, thanks to this rubbish. I’m a bit scared to start again in case the same thing happens. It’s hard work getting fit at my age!

OP posts:
Icannever · 12/04/2021 10:35

@WouldBeGood. I just admit I feel a little but exhausted at the thought of all the fun though. I need to get fitter and healthier too 😀

Icannever · 12/04/2021 10:36

Must not just 😬

Coquohvan · 12/04/2021 11:11

I understand about your missed muscles @rookiemere I’ve borrowed a rowing machine from the gym, painting uses different arm muscles.

We’ve rebooked and moved a lakes break umpteen now, the last rebook is 26/4 the plus side the company have not cancelled us yet this time. Hmm if not cancelled we’re going to go, self catering just us and they have a lovely covered beer garden. 🤞

rookiemere · 12/04/2021 12:18

@Icannever yes it's hard to know if it's best to storm ahead or be more cautious.
So for example we have Majorca in August postponed from last year, I'm keen to push it to next summer to avoid paying for PCR tests and any possible issues - that is if we're even allowed to go - but if PCR tests are going to be an ongoing cost for holidays, well we might as well get started this year.
I do have UK things booked though and a Scottish back up so definitely going somewhere while we can, as it all seems so fragile even with the vaccines.

WouldBeGood · 12/04/2021 12:38

Been on the treadmill 💪

rookiemere · 12/04/2021 13:28

Can I have a rail please.
All sorts of emails and messages from work today celebrating our new found freedom- forgetting that a large proportion of workforce are Scotland based or maybe they don't know we're still locked up until we promise to vote SNP.

UnderHisAye · 12/04/2021 13:37

My own FIL said to me yesterday 'oh it's great, stuff is opening tomorrow'

Er, no it's not as you live in Scotland Confused

forfucksakenett · 12/04/2021 13:44

Must admit I'm a bit jealous of everyone hitting the shops today!

Do you not have any outdoor adventure parks you could go to? Depends on the age of your children I guess but my son loves them.

Given that you're not allowed to leave your Council Area...
