Thanks @dancemom

We'll see what happens this afternoon!

Absofruitly · 02/03/2021 13:22

Thanks for the new thread.

Does anyone know if there will be a schools announcement this afternoon? I have a P4 and an S2, the former v. bored of homeschooling now, and would like to know if last week's '15th March at the earliest' has become a definite date now, for the P4 at least.

Scottishskifun · 02/03/2021 13:22

Thanks dancemom Smile

I'm not peed off at the UK govt the cases came in end of January before it was fully enforced and Brazil is a red list country.
Its taken a year to get that in place which is too slow by all UK and SG.
The SG said they had no control last year when it was raised however they magically can enforce quarantine hotels for more countries than the rest of the UK. So all of a sudden they do have more border controls..... Funny that!

dancemom · 02/03/2021 13:24

Supposed to be @Absofruitly, I'm sure hoping so...

Bytheloch · 02/03/2021 13:24

Yes there’s a schools announcement as part of the briefing in parliament today.

Bytheloch · 02/03/2021 13:26

Haven’t seen any leaks, for once, but assume it to be as hinted/teased previously by the LeitchBot rest of primary and upper high years- should be dates for those?

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 13:26

I heard a tiny bit of the news on BBC Scotland at lunchtime, and the only speculation on there was about dates being brought forward, I didn't hear any speculation about things being pushed further back.

Probably means nothing but just thought I'd share.

OldRailer · 02/03/2021 13:29

Joining for updates.

OldRailer · 02/03/2021 13:30

Thank you dancemom.

rookiemere · 02/03/2021 13:37

@GirlLovesWorld interesting. I do hope it's good news about getting them back in some capacity.

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 13:42

I do too.

My son is getting quite tearful now after about an hour of work a day, I can really see his resilience slipping.

I do only want them back when it feels safe, but if numbers stay low this week....

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 13:44

Thanks @dancemom

I’ve retired to bed as I’ve had enough. Can’t sleep at night and DS really fed up. He’s chatting online with friend so under the duvet it is.

anon444877 · 02/03/2021 14:01

Nothing to add - place marking. Hoping we finally get some good news and not more new variant, hide under your beds stuff.

Scottishskifun · 02/03/2021 14:09

Well my LA is now under 20/100,000 if it stays this low into April that would be tier 1 even by their new stricter levels.... What are the chances of putting it into tier 1......my bet is zero! Angry

dancemom · 02/03/2021 14:12

The latest daily figures show 542 people tested positive for the virus, which is 4.5% of the total number of tests carried out.
There are 784 people in hospital, down 40 from yesterday.
And 71 patients are being treated in intensive care, no change from yesterday.

Checking in! @Scottishskifun to answer your question from the other thread, yes I broadly do support the government in their current endeavours. I think if it becomes very clear to me that it's overkill then my patience might wane slightly. I'm not at that point yet. I've seen two pretty healthy folk I know in their late 40s / early 50s die in the last month and that was sobering for me.

There are posters on this thread who clearly know their shit about numbers and statistics. Yourself included. I just feel that my choices are to trust experts with their names and reputations on the line or trust anonymous folk online? I know where I'm headed. That's not to say your insights aren't very interesting. I'll certainly be less patient as we near the end as a result of them.

@GirlLovesWorld sorry you're getting it today. Scotnset is pretty toxic if your face doesn't fit. Strange accusations and abuse aplenty. I'm still trying to work out if I was very subtly accused of socking on another thread yesterday 🤔.

dancemom · 02/03/2021 14:24

Announcement next Tuesday about possibly speeding up the path out of lockdown ....

Hooray! Hooray! Just punched the air!

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 14:27

It is pretty wearing to be asked to give your opinion then get sneered at. But that's Scotsnet for you apparently.

Shocking that two young people you know have died recently - I'm really sorry. That's exactly what worries me: the vast majority of people in those age groups won't be vaccinated for a few months yet, but threads right across MN are still full of 'fuck that, I'm going where I want/seeing who I want to/etc'.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 02/03/2021 14:27

Woohooo 🎉

speedtalker · 02/03/2021 14:27

I don't think I want to watch any more news for the next fortnight so I stay cheerful.

dancemom · 02/03/2021 14:30

All children P4 to 7 can return to school from
15 March along with childcare

Secondary pupils to return on a blended basis from the same date with priority given to senior pupils

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/03/2021 14:31

@GirlLovesWorld genuinely not friends just people I knew but very frightening. One was a bit overweight and the other had no health conditions that I'm aware of. Very worrying.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 02/03/2021 14:32

This is a lot more positive than last week. PR team earning their pay this week.
