Hmm 'a bit overweight' is my category I think...

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/03/2021 14:34

Someone has clearly explained how badly the elimination/extended lockdown plan is playing with the electorate. I'm very glad personally, it gives us all some hope now! It will be interesting to see how the 'science' miraculously changes to allow this from next week when it didn't last week.

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/03/2021 14:34

God mine has gone from a bit overweight to 'carries stomach around as if it is an extra person and no longer can judge what spaces o will fit through' 😮

rookiemere · 02/03/2021 14:36

Is it true all secondary back full time after Easter ?

Well that's falling case numbers for you...

Almost 100% sure that's what she said
speedtalker · 02/03/2021 14:38

Has male top league football only been permitted so far?

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 02/03/2021 14:39

@GirlLovesWorld this would be the same trend that we've seen for a couple of months then?

rookiemere · 02/03/2021 14:39

It says it on the BBC, I'm not watching because I can't bear to. I'm so relieved and any time back before Easter is a bonus.

Scottishskifun · 02/03/2021 14:40

@kurtrussellsbeard I would always advocate looking at multiple data sources it's what I do. I agree with what statisticallychallanged said the worry is a complex model presented to the public in such a simplistic way.

It's hard when that's not your background but I always advise look at numbers, look at sources and look at if what's being applied is the way it's intended (e.g the WHO report) and then come to a conclusion.
What you rarely see is the info from the committees and what different experts say therefore it seems like all experts think this way. This is untrue and normal.

I do believe that greater transparency is needed with the public.

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 14:42

Well, yes, that's how it works!

As cases decline, restrictions ease. Not sure why you're trying to suggest there's some weird conspiracy about 'the science' ?!

Yes all back full time after their Easter break

She did mention something about lower leagues but I didn't take note of it

Brilliant news on schools. Really hope it makes a big difference to many parents and kids.

rookiemere · 02/03/2021 14:44

@GirlLovesWorld but last week the message was very gloom and doom, even though the figures were also falling at that point. It would have been possible to promote a more nuanced balanced message then - perhaps not as rosy as BJs but something to give us hope for the future.
Now it appears as if they're back tracking from a hard stance as opposed to working through a roadmap.
Hallelujah though, who cares why it has happened.

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/03/2021 14:45

As a layman though surely you can understand me having a look around at other countries and thinking yep these restrictions are broadly the same. Not going to get too worked up about it 🤷🏻‍♀️ @Scottishskifun

Truthfully though numbers make me feel all funny. Genuinely a bit fearful. 🙈

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 14:46

Yeah I agree the change is more in tone, but I think that's because a) they realised they were too gloomy last week AND b) things are better week-on-week so it stands to reason that the tone and information coming to us is too.

But yes. Hallelujah to it all. Beer's in the fridge.

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/03/2021 14:47

I mean I'm the layman btw not you. Seems like neither literacy or numeracy are my forte today!

dancemom · 02/03/2021 14:50

I much prefer this weekly review, things are changing so much that 3 week reviews are inappropriate

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 02/03/2021 14:50

I agree a weekly review system much better. The change in tone today has me feeling much more positive

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 02/03/2021 14:51

Very confused re physical distancing in schools - currently 2m for those at secondary - which will stop on the 15th I assume; and was going to be more seniors from them (due to their exams) but now it's going to be all secondary for some of the time - 2m distancing? Who knows. Some areas have two weeks - if you can fit half or a third of your classes in over a 2 week period, you might get one afternoon in school for an S1. With the three weeks that most areas have till Easter, I'd up that to a day in school. I'm sure headteachers are overjoyed at the juggling this will involve for a 2 or 3 week period. Would be better to focus their time properly on a safe return for all after Easter, rather than how to bring in S2 for a brief spell before then.

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 14:53

"Would be better to focus their time properly on a safe return for all after Easter, rather than how to bring in S2 for a brief spell before then."

This board would have exploded again, just like last week.

Although when she said she'd give schools (or LAs maybe) the authority to decide how best to deliver blended learning I thought, bet you bloody will, it's going to be a nightmare! Grin

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/03/2021 14:54

@ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown yep.
It's genuinely a disgrace the way schools have been expects to sit and wait on these announcements and then magic up plans in relation to the newest set of logistics.

While I'm delighted for kids and parents who want to be back I think this is very very tricky for schools and teachers.

Scottishskifun · 02/03/2021 14:56

@kurtrussellsbeard it's why I hope the SG takes the public committees advice on better information to the public which is delivered by a range of scientists so it is clear for people who find data overwhelming and also means that they can answer questions better.

Currently most of the questions asked about modelling or data etc get a response of I'm not a scientist so can't answer it which is frustrating

dancemom · 02/03/2021 14:57

I agree, I know dds school had a timetable set up for blended learning for S4-S6 from 15 March to Easter and were ready to go with this while adhering to the 2m social standing rule but that's just been blown apart by now having to accommodate S1 to S3 pupils on school premises at the same time 🤦🏻‍♀️
