Yeah the before Easter bit will be a nightmare for schools to manage @ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown and feels like a bit of something thrown in to appease the parents. Can only work if they get rid of 2 metre distancing I think.
But you know even if S3 DS is only in for a couple of half days between now and Easter holidays, it will have a hugely positive impact on his mental welfare Smile, and I'm sure the teachers know that will be the case for most pupils.

TeenTraumaTrials · 02/03/2021 14:57

Delighted to hear the news about secondary schools, but agree that the logistics of working out blended learning for 3 weeks PLUS prioritising S4-6, so by that I presume they get more time than S1-3, will be a total nightmare for schools. I agree with ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown that even though it would mean a further delay for my S1, I'd prefer to see my S4 in for more time due to the importance of the senior phase.

BBC reporting face masks for all secondary pupils 'when secondary schools return' - does that mean before the Easter holidays or after? The prospect of long term mask wearing for all secondary pupils for 6.5 hours a day is not a pleasant one.

dancemom · 02/03/2021 15:02

Have they not always been required to wear face masks in secondary school? Dd was wearing hers full time prior to schools closing in December

@GirlLovesWorld

Yeah I agree the change is more in tone, but I think that's because a) they realised they were too gloomy last week AND b) things are better week-on-week so it stands to reason that the tone and information coming to us is too.

But yes. Hallelujah to it all. Beer's in the fridge.

That's what I mean. The science hasn't changed significantly, we already knew cases were falling and the vaccines worked, but the tone is now massively more positive.

But absolutely, who cares why, let's just enjoy a bit of hope for the future!

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 15:04

I feel sorry for schools having to sort out blended before Easter but my child really needs to be in. Thank Christ they’ve changed their minds. A victory for common sense and public opinion

Rae36 · 02/03/2021 15:10

I'm having a shit day but I'm so glad I'm not a secondary head teacher right now. Theirs must have just got a whole lot worse. Having just digested last week's news it's all to be rearranged again. What a nightmare.
I've an S2 and an S3 and I think I'd rather they just stayed at home till after Easter. It hardly seems worth it, it's just lip service.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/03/2021 15:11

It's funny but the people who complain that they are not welcome seem to be the same ones that also seek to shut down others

I'm perfectly happy for anyone who thinks I've crossed the line to report that post and I'll do the same where i think necessary. I believe i have apologised where necessary if I think I've got something wrong but have never had the same curtesy extended back for accusations that I actually proved were wrong. ho hum.

Most folk have their own motivations, beliefs and experiences, I am surprised that any of us agree with anyone else most of the time.

museumum · 02/03/2021 15:11

I always had a feeling she was going for 'under promise and over deliver'. Not that I approve of that strategy but there's no way NS could get away with BJ's 'over promise and then just bluster through' approach.

Rae36 · 02/03/2021 15:14

I wish she could over-deliver and send primary kids back a week earlier. That would have me dancing in the streets.

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 15:29

Me too @Rae36 my kids are ready! But I actually think come next week we won't really bother with much home-school. They've handled it brilliantly this time (first lockdown was much harder) and I just have so much admiration for how they've coped. They deserve a few lazy days before going back I think.

TeenTraumaTrials · 02/03/2021 15:42

It was only S4-6 pupils before dancemom, but is now (I think) all secondary pupils
WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 15:51

South Lanarkshire has posted that schools here have been planning for blended so watch this space!

TeenTraumaTrials · 02/03/2021 15:53

I think all LAs had plans for blended learning back in the autumn. For us it worked out at 1 day per week pretty much with an extra day every few weeks. But that was with all years being equally prioritised. What that looks like for S1-3 if S4-6 are being prioritised is quick difficult to imagine - 1 or 2 days in school in the 3 weeks before Easter is my guess.

fluffyugg · 02/03/2021 15:57

@GirlLovesWorld me too, feel quite emotional this afternoon actually thinking how my kids have coped with all the disruption. Such a difficult time and a period that they will never forget. Can't wait to see them back with their peers Smile

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 16:04

@fluffyugg I've been trying to tell them how they're the first generation of kids who have been expected to, without notice, start learning at home, couldn't see their teachers, or their friends, and had to put up with being taught fractions by their stressed and busy parents.

They don't really see it though, to them it's just, like, life.

I hope this is the last of home learning for all of them.

WouldBeGood · 02/03/2021 16:08

Surely there will be no need for bubbles and closures when they go back now the vulnerable vaccinated and numbers dropping?

fluffyugg · 02/03/2021 16:11

I really hope this is the last of it, it'll be a year almost to the day when they go back from when schools were first closed.

I don't know about bubbles but secondary kids in masks and 2m distancing so probably? At least to start with, don't know though.

OldRailer · 02/03/2021 16:13

My kid just said that about it being a year.

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/03/2021 16:13

@Scottishskifun absolutely! Seems sensible. I feel for scientists a bit though as well. They really have been thrust in the limelight in the most horrible ways. Like you and other posters have said it's nearly impossible to predict with accuracy and some of them have really come in for a bit of a pounding!

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/03/2021 16:18

@WaxOnFeckOff not sure who you're referring to but I'll bite!

I have posted opposing opinions many times. I have disagreed many times. Not sure that's shutting anyone down.

I have never:
Swore at poster
Accused a poster of stealing someone else's identity
Bemoaned the fact that the quality of a thread has been affected because certain posters are posting.

I think that's more 'shut down' behaviour.

I'll leave you to decide if you've ever been guilty of any of that.

Well that's not true though is it?

You have many times bemoaned about threads because certain posters are posting and you outright accused me of accusing you re identity and I proved that it wasn't me but I never even got a sniff of an apology. The time another poster and I did accuse you, it was immediately after a malicious poster had claimed another's identity and that happened to coincide with you changing name and we both believed you to be that malicious poster, something we both apologised for and explained the circumstances around that.

Swearing isn't banned. being told to fuck off or whatever isn't necessarily a personal attack.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 02/03/2021 16:36

Home learning will disappear though, I'd rather my dc continued to get lessons throughout the week than one day in a fortnight and then nothing. It also increased the potential exposure greatly if the full roll of a school is going in and out, both for education staff and the families of pupils.
If I had an exam year dc I'd be wondering why they weren't getting those weeks without trying to squeeze in some S1-3s too. Oh well, will see what guidance comes out.
Judging by what I read on here, vaccinations seem a lot faster in England so don't have that reassurance either.

kurtrussellsbeard · 02/03/2021 16:41

As far as I'm aware you've only accused me once of stealing someone's identity (I'm laughing even as I type. I mean ffs really 🤦🏻‍♀️). You didn't apologise as far as I can remember you just said it was understandable that one would think that given I had so recently name changed Hmm

Calling someone a cunt is different to telling someone to fuck off, yes. Sadly you've done both.

I have literally never moaned about someone posting on a thread. Ever. I think it's appalling behaviour. It's a public chat forum.

I have moaned that I was run off the railing thread because it was a bit shit tbh.

GirlLovesWorld · 02/03/2021 16:43

Vaccinations are almost exactly the same rate. England has vaccinated 30.5% and Scotland 29.5%

I really can't see home learning disappearing, it's been going on for a year now and I can't see any educator just shrugging and giving up on it now.
