Results Day 2017

Eek it's only 18 days away!

Dd is convinced Nat5 maths will be another C. She's not too stressed about the highers results.

How's everyone else feeling about it?

Checking in! DD is a bit stressed about results so we've not really discussed it much, although my mum was asking for the date today! Wish it wasn't such a long wait...

Yes, everything on the 8th! Shock

prettybird · 21/07/2017 19:38

Ds is pretty sure of 2 As, reasonably confident of 3 As and not so confident about Chemistry and English but thinks he should have got at least Bs in them (but now admitting to be fearful of a C).

We'll just have to wait and see. Smile

IndigoApple · 21/07/2017 19:57

prettybird, DD is thinking along same lines as your DS I think, but yes we'll just need to wait and see.

We unexpectedly drove past the SQA building a few weeks ago. DD was unimpressed! I actually thought it was the hospital! Grin

rogueantimatter · 21/07/2017 20:24

Ooh, where is the SQA building?

We're in the very happy position of DS having an unconditional offer. We will be away when the post comes. Will he automatically get an email?

He also did an A level, which I'm very nervous about as his revision was minimal. The school were so helpful and supportive of him and his uni course is in the same subject so I'll be embarrassed when he hasn't done well. I'm cross with him for not putting in more effort. TBfair he did have a very busy year and the written exam is a relatively low proportion of the overall mark but I felt he owed it to his excellent teachers even if he claims not to be bothered for himself.

prettybird - DS made the same predictions as your DS last year but he got 4As and a B! He was asleep when the post came, so I hoovered to 'accidentally' wake him up. Then I told him the post had come, but he decided to look at his results on his phone instead of opening the envelope. His face fell and my heart sank. Turned out the email loaded in chunks, starting with the B, which he thought was going to be an A. However the subjects he thought would be Bs were As. He was so surprised he had to read it three times before he finally read out,
'Geography B,
Mathematics A'

etc etc

Little sod - I nearly had a heart attack.

Very best of luck to everyone's DCs. (Nervewracking doesn't even come close I know)

IndigoApple · 21/07/2017 20:40

It's close to the new Royal Infirmary on the outskirts of Edinburgh Rogue. Looks slightly scary!

I think they get an email and text if they've registered. DD's text arrived at 8am last year! Better than waiting for the postman who comes at about 12 o'clock.

I also did an A Level, 30 years ago. Similar to your DS I already had my uni place and didn't work hard for it. I think I got a C. The results didn't come out until after the (Scottish) schools were back and I remember having to phone the school to find out what I'd got.

prettybird · 21/07/2017 21:10

Ds actually thinks he should get 4 As and a B (though he's not sure in which subject Confused). My dad, who us away and won't get back till after the results, has already given him an envelope with money in it assuming he'll get 5 As. Smile

Poor lad is on a hiding to nothing as I got 6 As when I sat my Highers! Wink

The important thing is that he should get the As in the subjects he wants to study at Uni but the more As he gets, the better chance he has of getting an unconditional for the Uni he wants to go to.

prettybird · 21/07/2017 21:13

....and he's again insisting on waiting for the post, which in our case often only arrives late afternoon ShockHmm

rogueantimatter · 21/07/2017 21:16

Oooh - the scary SQA building.

Oh crud - A level results go to the schools indeed.

Do your DCs have specific plans for unis/courses?

rogueantimatter · 21/07/2017 21:19

Oh no - late afternoon. Meanwhile his friends will be messaging all day long.....

Fabellini · 21/07/2017 21:21

We're going to be away on results day, but ds registered to get his results by text. He seems reasonably confident - I just want him to have what he needs for his chosen 6th year subjects. The only AH he's doing is History, and he's been predicted an A for his higher, so fingers crossed!

SwiftAnchor · 21/07/2017 21:25

DD is dreading results day. I am sure she will do ok she just has no confidence in herself.

My mum works for SQA said they are gearing up to start printing! She gets cakes on results day! Grin

IndigoApple · 21/07/2017 21:29

Ooh swift must be stressful for those who work there! Is it true the exams were marked ages ago? Does anything ever go wrong, eg some results not sent out etc? Can they relax for a bit after the 8th?!

prettybird · 21/07/2017 21:48

Ds is planning on doing Maths and Physics (and Astrophysics?): Edinburgh 1st choice (so he can play rugby for an Edinburgh club and have a better chance of getting noticed than in Glasgow Wink); 2nd choice Glasgow; 3rd choice St Andrews.

He hasn't really thought about 4th and 5th choices.

He's doing Maths and Physics AHs and a crash Modern Studies Higher. Plus he's going to help with some of the coaching of the S1/S2s in the School of Rugby.

rogueantimatter · 21/07/2017 21:52

DS has a friend who's studying astrophysics at Edinburgh!

How tantalising to think that the exam results are decided and just waiting to be released.

Very best of luck fabellini and swift

I think it usually goes pretty smoothly. My mum isn't directly involved with Nationals or Highers, so she has exams all year round. Seems like things are likely to go wrong at exam stage rather than results stages. But I think everyone is more relaxed on the 9thGrin

WaxOnFeckOff · 22/07/2017 00:52

DS1 has I think registered for his higher results on line this year. He doesn't seem bothered at all. I think he thinks he has all As. I'd obviously like that to be the case but I'm not so optimistic. I'd be surprised if he hasn't passed them all though. DS2 hasn't registered so it'll be waiting on the postie for his Nat 5 results. I'm hoping he's passed them all but he's not confident. I'd love him to have a couple of As but his prelims weren't good so it's a sweaty wait. He didn't get a place for the day release college course he wanted to do so is left with 4 highest and nothing else he wants to do except History which he can't do due to a timetable clash :(

Groovee · 22/07/2017 08:31

Dd needs a B in English to get into the 2 afternoons at college psychology higher. The college is 5 minutes away from school so she can grab lunch and walk up.

No idea if she's signed up as she's been so grumpy if you ask her anything. I'm hoping her work has some shifts for her this week as I've had enough. I'm recovering from surgery a week ago and she's been a pain.

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 22/07/2017 09:07

Fingers crossed then groovee. My two on roaccutane so both grumpy at the moment. I've complained to the college about their system as DS had a 3 minute interview so I've no idea how they can decide from that who would be best to get a space. We've also asked for feedback. However given that they didn't bother to let him know that he didn't get a space until we kept phoning, I don't hold out much hope of receiving anything.

prettybird · 22/07/2017 09:12

Hope your ds2 does get something sorted wax. Maybe somebody will drop out at college and/or not get the results they need and so release a place for him.

Groovee · 22/07/2017 10:55

Dd applied for a course that was 6th year only. So that would go in her favour. It's now her back up should teaching fail.

OP posts:
LordPercy · 22/07/2017 13:19

This is the only year that I have two dcs receiving results on the same day 🙈. DS1 already has an unconditional so it doesn't really matter what he gets, whilst DD has her N5 results to get. They both sat N5 maths however and there's going to be drama around those results however they fall books trip overseas

IHaveBrilloHair · 22/07/2017 21:04

No, no, no, no ,no.
It's not happening in our house.
Dd isn't at all confident and I'm not sure how she'll cope if she's not done well, or how I'll cope with her.
