Eek it's only 18 days away!

Dd is convinced Nat5 maths will be another C. She's not too stressed about the highers results.

How's everyone else feeling about it?

Checking in... and I'm with Brillo on this at the moment! DS appeared really confident during the exams, he came out of each saying it was what he'd expected and he'd studied all the right things...

Since then he's become the harbinger of doom and thinks he's failed nat 5 maths and not got any As in his 4 Highers...

Results will come by mail and they'll be here around 9am.. last year I left them on his bedside and waited for the wails... it was all happy shrieks though. Hoping for the same this year!

I was in the SQA building this time last year, on a course, and remember seeing many rooms full of neatly stacked exam papers - I was quite in awe at all the stress and hard work they represented!

Good luck to you all, and all of yours. See you back here on the 8th!

prettybird · 23/07/2017 22:46

Last year ds took his envelope upstairs to open it in his room in private.

Came down half an hour later in tears Sad

He'd got exactly the results he's predicted: 6 As, a B and a C - but his B was in Chemistry and not (as he'd expected) in English Shock At that point he'd still been half-thinking of Chemistry along with Maths and Physics at Uni.

Once he went back to school, he found out he'd been 2 marks off an A. Went for a re-mark and gained one mark Sad. It did seem to be marjer variance though - it was his assignment that let him down: Hals the class got really good marks and half the class got really poor marks, despite doing them alongside each other Confused

rogueantimatter · 24/07/2017 09:20

That's interesting, as they say. DS was predicted an A in geog. His first paragraph draft for his assignment was read out as a good example, he was very confident that the exam went well, but he got a band 4 B. Maybe he made a hash of doing the assignment in the exam conditions. Other pupils memorised their draft, but I don't think he had. 30% of the overall mark. A friend also got his only B in geography.

DS was predicted a C in English. He had a few sessions with a tutor and went on to get a band 1 A. Tutor reckons his school mark the prelims very harshly to put the fear up the pupils. Will work for some but not for others I'd imagine. who would be a teacher though?

WaxOnFeckOff · 24/07/2017 09:43

My Ds1 got an A in geography last year and it was a subject he hated and was hoping to just get a pass. Who knows what happens in the exams.

ttlshiwwya · 25/07/2017 16:11

Checking in too. I am more nervous than my DS2. He should make his offer based on his prelims but you never know. Two years ago neighbours daughter got a C for Higher English despite 90% in prelim and thinking the exam went well- paid for a remark and she had completely misread a critical essay question and her portfolio scored much less than she expected. Just going to ask DS2 if he's signed up for email/text. Is there still time to do this?

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/07/2017 16:18

Just going to ask DS2 if he's signed up for email/text. Is there still time to do this?

Nope :(

At least we will have a separation of DS1 getting his results at 8am (I think?) and then DS2 waiting for the postie.

Obviously I am rooting for DS1 to get the results he thinks he will get, but I'd be flabbergasted if he's failed any, so I feel I don't need to waste my worry on him. I'm sure he will do well. DS2 however is another story. I just want him to have passed Maths and if he could get an A or two it would boost his confidence no end. I'd rather he had two A's and failed a couple (but please not Maths) than passed them all at C. Although that may sound (and be) mad..

prettybird · 26/07/2017 23:19

Ds came downstairs to whinge at us that his AH Maths should be on Thursday 3rd May, his AH Physics on Tuesday 8th May and his Modern Studies is on Wednesday 9th May Shock.

I'm sorry to say we weren't that sympathetic and said what did he expect us to do about it? Confused

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/07/2017 23:39

Ds1 has Maths and Physics and then Computing Science not until 22nd May - drags it out a bit.

Groovee · 26/07/2017 23:40

Dd was whinging as Ds finishes by the 21st of May but her first exam is the 28th of May finishing 1st of June

The calendar view of the exam timetable builder has the days different from the list view. Maybe I should fail them Grin

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/07/2017 10:22

Another week closer and the nerves are jangling now - mine anyway! DS1 still not giving a hoot and DS2 trying to forget all about it and bury his head in the sand.

prettybird · 01/08/2017 15:51

@weegiemum (I think the @ automatically triggers an email): here it is.

IndigoApple · 01/08/2017 16:04

Less than a week to go! Shock

Groovee · 01/08/2017 16:05

This time next week, I might be actually turning to the Mumsnet Gin and I am teatotal!

Dds here are getting a bit anxious about it!

Dd2 only has music as she sat her Nat5 in S2, but she forgot to sign up for the text result so will have to wait in for the result to arrive by post.

Dd1 did 5 Highers. She said she'll be happy if she gets the same results as her prelims - that's A for English, Art and Graphics and C for history and Gaidhlig. She thinks she might have squeezed a B out of one of them, though! She's going to be camping in a field near Kinross at Soul Survivor (a Christian youth festival) from the Saturday so heres hoping her mobile phone charge lasts! She's signed up for text results.

Next year is almost upon us!!
Dd1 hopes to do AH Art and English, H Photography and has to do Nat5 Maths again. She's aiming for Glasgow School of Art so will probably need a years portfolio course after she leaves school.
Ds is doing Nat5 - English, Maths, Gaidhlig, Physics, Chemistry, IT, Art and Geography.
Dd2 will be doing H music and probably Nat5 Gaidhlig - thats all as she's just starting S3.

And I have no fingernails left!

Cadsuane · 01/08/2017 18:23

DD1 is waiting for Higher results in English, Maths, Computing, Chemistry and Human Biology. We are confident of an A in computing and thinks she will get more than the 3 B's she needs to apply to Glasgow (because of our postcode she will automatically get an adjusted offer) and is hoping to get the grades for an unconditional. I'm not quite so confident about the unconditional but we will see.
Next year she wants to do do AH maths, AH computing (unlikely) and H Physics. If she can't do the computing she is thinking H history.
She has signed up for the text service which is just as well as we get out mail about 3pm!

DD2 will be doing her N5's next year (maths, english, physics, chemistry, geography, accounts and music). She will be worried about her results but unless she panics she is likely to get mostly A's.

LordPercy · 01/08/2017 19:12

This is 3rd time around for me as a mum and I'm much more chilled about the whole thing. We've been through unexpected high marks/low marks, remarks, altering/changing courses etc and come out the other side. However I was up the wall with nerves this time 2 years ago! I'm just edgy about both teens will react to their N5 maths marks....although DS1 has his unconditional so it doesn't really matter. I'd just like for him to have something to stand for all those years of sweat and tears regarding maths.

APerson · 03/08/2017 20:33

A young person not getting into college or university, doesn't have to be the end of the world. There's apprenticeships which can give equivalent qualifications. There's even graduate level apprenticeships offering degrees. No student loan to pay back either. My wee cousin is a girl doing an engineering apprenticeship and my neighbour's son is doing a social media one.

www.apprenticeships.scot is the website

readsalotgirl63 · 05/08/2017 01:06

DD seems quite calm but I am getting very twitchy. She has a conditional for Glasgow and back up is Dundee but she couldn't apply for accommodation at Dundee as it was not her "Firm" - now really worried that jokes about living under a bridge might come true. ! Anyone else been in this position or know how likely she is to get accommodation in uni halls ?

prettybird · 06/08/2017 14:34

Ds is having a panic attack about what results he's going to get.

This despite saying two days ago that the worst case scenario is 2xA, 2xB and a C. Confused

IndigoApple · 06/08/2017 16:33

DD had a nightmare last night about the results, I think it's preying on her mind. In her dream she had failed English. I don't think she will have done but just want the wait to be over now!

Groovee · 06/08/2017 18:02

Earlier in the week, my Fb memories had my nieces getting their results a week earlier than Dd has!

Is it 8am for the results.

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 06/08/2017 18:06

Getting close now. I'm now trying to work out strategies in my head to deal with the varying scenarios of results for two on the same day. Now understanding the situation of my family members with twins had.

WaxOnFeckOff · 06/08/2017 18:07

8am for DS1 and when postie arrives for DS2. I'm now glad DS2 didn't sign up for texts. It gives a break between getting the results for each of them.
