Eek it's only 18 days away!

Dd is convinced Nat5 maths will be another C. She's not too stressed about the highers results.

How's everyone else feeling about it?

I think that's my point Lidl, I can absolutely see why they would have rules so that schools aren't willy nilly submitting costly requests that are unlikely to be successful. However those rules need to have a degree of flexibility for situations such as this one. I actually don't believe that a more experienced headmaster wouldn't just over-rule it since the cost to the council would have been the same.

I also don't understand how the school could take the decision about the physics re-mark without us being consulted.

DS2 apparently performed pretty much as expected as poor as that was. there were a few where he was one boundary up or down but the overall result would be the same. That's what I found out during the call about DS1. DS2 had managed to get a few scores and they were encouraging from the point of view that his A, B and one of his Cs were all solidly in the boundary. His A was actually close to an upper A and the others more or less smack in the middle. The other C isn't a subject he's taking at Higher. The French D was as predicted as were the two fails.

The other thing I am determined to establish is if he has been treated the same as everyone else. Because if i find out he hasn't then I wont be responsible for angry I am going to be.

My DCs school will relax the appeal rules if you can convince them that the grade is required to be sure of an offer for the course you want to do. Could you try this? For the course my DS2 is doing at Glasgow if you don't meet the standard entry In S5 then you aren't guaranteed a S6 offer at all. They wait until they have all applications before decide which can be a bit stressy even if you know that you will most probably get an offer being so close.

Just relayed your story to dh Wax and he is very irate on your behalf not that that helps Wink

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/08/2017 21:55

I've said that ttl that I am concerned considering that a pupil who got 98% at Nat 5 suddenly drops to a B at Higher and whos to say how much further he could drop and that he may need A/b or B/A in Maths and Physics for courses he may want to do and at the moment he is sitting with b/b plus 3 As in other subjects.

I am beyond frustrated with it and DS is putting on a brave face but is quite upset and angry and frustrated too.

And thanks pb. I just can't get over the idiocy that is going on here.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/08/2017 22:19

had an email at 9.45 from council to say they've forwarded it to the education dept. Wasn't expecting that.

ttlshiwwya · 25/08/2017 22:28

That's promising. Do you know any councillors who might help get them to consider it quickly.

WaxOnFeckOff · 25/08/2017 22:32

Thanks ttl still not anticipating anyone reviewing it on Monday and no, unfortunately we don't move in those type of circles.

Groovee · 26/08/2017 15:56

Dd won't ask for her biology result to try and get where she went wrong. 😢

It might be that he would benefit from a year working rather than spend a year in school with no real focus? And, he would have money behind him when he goes off?

Superjaggy · 26/08/2017 22:18

Nothing, it would have been fine if he had a full time (or as near to full time) job lined up before he left, but he hadn't even looked. He just wanted to hang out playing guitar for a year Hmm. Pointing out that he'd have to pay me at least the equivalent in child benefit out of his part time wages was a large factor in his change of heart!

On another note, we went to Aberdeen Uni open day today and it was great. Lots of encouragement from admissions folk to apply for the courses you want even if you didn't get the minimum requirements, and justify your application in your personal statement.

nothingtodotoday · 27/08/2017 11:28

Superjaggy, yes I totally agree about a job!

Good to hear positive vibes from Aberdeen too.

Swiftanchor - did your dd get something sorted for her AH History?

Ds' school (Southside of Glasgow) is doing AH History (in fact one of the joint Duxes got an A for it last year and is off to Oxford to do PPE).

Would you like me to ask tonight after the Parent Council meeting if they have space in the class?
