Any appetite for a continuance or have I missed the new thread?
There was quite a heated squabble respectful exchange of views so I am sure there is more to be said......

I doubt it anyway...She is a former welsh nationalist. I think she is just looking at the economic and political landscape and is struggling to see how it will work.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 16:45

please stay fontella

Gighasmokedhalibutisawesome · 21/03/2017 16:46

My "exactly" was referring to voter intention and what the likely political balance of an independent Scottish parliament might look like.

Disappointed at the unnecessary rudeness again. Why cant you just say "I am sorry I dont agree" fontella ?

Fontella has been nothing but reasonable.

Sometimes you just need to look outside of your tiny nationalistic bubble and see the realities behind the case.

Fontella is speaking to you as someone who has a deep understanding of the way you are feeling at the moment and I think you are being quite unkind, when all she is doing is giving you an alternative view based on the realities of negotiating.

Calyx72 · 21/03/2017 16:51

Me?

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/03/2017 16:51

we've got another whole day of debate left too - can you imagine how interpersonally hard this all is in the Scottish parliament? Mumsnet is the perfect anonymous place for things to get a bit heated. It's hard to argue for long stretches of time without getting a bit frustrated. I'm still loving low politics for narrow gain. I've been on twitter a few times because of this (hate twitter) and the low standard of the comments on there is a real eye opener - a lot of it is more like football chants than commentary.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 21/03/2017 16:54

It may be true that an independent Scotland could elect any political party it feels like - eventually

But for the question to even be asked in another referendum there must be a dominant SNP force in Scottish politics at that time, because the other parties are strongly opposed (except for the Greens, but its becoming less and less obvious why anyone would vote for them). Someone would have to take charge of the transitional arrangements, setting up all the institutions, and generally shaping the 'Brave New Scotland', and this would be the government of the day (which would be the SNP, because if it was anyone else, we wouldn't be in that position).

So the critical post-referendum period, at the very least will be dominated by the SNP, and as such their conduct, credibility and track record are all very relevant to the debate.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 16:54

How awful you all are. Fontella is allowed to give her opinion

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 16:56

Fontella if you come back I'll go straight out and buy some Welsh whisky xxxxx

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/03/2017 16:58

I'll go one better gruffalo i'm contemplating decking my windows in welsh dragons for the next indyref thanks to fontella to make it clear it's not just the english being left! Might have a saltire, welsh flag, union jack. Not sure I could put a St George up...

Gighasmokedhalibutisawesome · 21/03/2017 17:04

Or me?
Given that I was simply giving my opinion on the "puerile and ridiculous" remark?
I am guessing it wasnt me given that I am actually sitting here in my "tiny pro-Union bubble"
Yep, I am pro-union. Just anti-rude. And actually interested in other views.
Confused

I love Ruth Davidson. Properly love her. She has more balls than most of the Westminster MPs put together. SO glad that she is in this fight, she is articulate, thoughtful, intelligent and takes no shite off anyone.

In fact, I may just tweet her and tell her how awesome she is.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 17:11

Yes hang the welsh dragon up along with the UJ.

THEY are the poor buggers not even represented on the UJ which in my view is beyond reproach.

YOU have less reason to be horrible about English people than the Welsh people do.

I will buy whatever the I like and it may never be Scottish again after this. (lets be clear I have Scottish heritage and live here)

Why can I not be nice to a welsh person by not offering to support their industry.

I love the all of the nations in the uk.

You cant help it you are a hateful person though I suppose.

Fontella · 21/03/2017 17:14

I'm not angry just exasperated!

Ruth Davidson full speech now up and one thing is absolutely certain - she rattles Nicola. Look at the body language.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 17:16

I missed the "puerile and ridiculous" Hmm oh well maybe she was angry...

I've heard worse on mumsnet though and to be fair it is a very touchy subject. One which makes me angry too to be fair.

I do not think it was such an awful comment that fontella should hang her head in shame though.

Where are you fontella?

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 17:17

cross post sorry Smile

NoLotteryWinYet · 21/03/2017 17:19

I agree, Davidson is the only one that can land a proper verbal punch on Sturgeon, despite kezia and Rennie both making excellent points.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 17:23

I'm with Ruth on this too.

She considers things before she makes her next move.

TinfoilHattie · 21/03/2017 17:24

Maybe they should just scrap the whole indryef nonsense and just lock Ruth and Nicola in a room. Would be a lot cheaper, would be over in 5 minutes and we could all start moving on.

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 17:28

I would pay to see that

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 17:32

I am recoiling in horror on Ruths behalf at the thought of being trapped in a room with Sturgeon, so lets not do that to her. (I feel like that every time I turn on the TV and hear Sturgeon saying the "peeepl of sgoatlund" as if she cares what they think.

Scotlands biggest listening exercise pmsl...

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 17:36

font it's good to see you back.

I've got my settee all decked out in George crosses in case anyone fancies popping in for a cuppa.

I'll happily hang the saltire or welsh dragon up for you guys on the other side though if you are too repulsed lol :)

Fontella · 21/03/2017 17:39

Calyx - one last try.

Why is when 'top economists' or even just 'economists' or even anyone with an opinion whose blog piece or sound bite you can find says Scottish Independence is a good thing and Brexit is a terrible thing - you believe it hook, line and sinker?

But when 'top economists or even just 'economists' or even anyone with an opinion whose blog piece or sound bite you can find says the SNPs White Paper was a crock of shite and not worth wiping your arse on - you disbelieve it?

www.heraldscotland.com/opinion/14040883.SNP_should_be_brought_to_account_over_misleading_independence_White_Paper/

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/06/snp-economist-admits-alex-salmond-wrong-independence-oil-bonus/

dailybusinessgroup.co.uk/2017/03/snp-growth-guru-admits-party-was-wrong-on-oil/

www.workersliberty.org/node/26400

and there's plenty more of that. No-one, not even the SNP themselves defend it, and yet here you are valiantly defending it?

Thegruffalowswife · 21/03/2017 17:45

I know font Sad
