Any appetite for a continuance or have I missed the new thread?
There was quite a heated squabble respectful exchange of views so I am sure there is more to be said......

The UK is a unitary state to which Scotland belongs as a possession. The EU is a union of sovereign states. The difference between the UK and the EU is the difference between being a bonded labourer and having an ownership stake in a company where you are a partner

I didn't get beyond this bollocks.

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 22:10

I do not read articles from that publication after I was called a metrosplainer the other day and was pointed in the direction of an article in this publication. Whie it made a nice change from being called a white settler I wasn't too keen.
Apparently I am not allowed a say as I was not born in scotland.... tolerant and liberal?

Calyx72 · 18/03/2017 22:11

Gruffalo I didn't call you a Metrosplainer. FFS

Don't think being born in Scotland means you will escape the censure of a certain type of Nat.

My husband's brother (I absolutely refuse to call him my brother in law) has been a member of the SNP since his teens- first time he met me he ridiculed my accent- I'm not Scottish enough.

It's a good piece that Smile thanks for the link

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 22:24

Anyone who reads that sort of shit is already dead to me. They are beyond any form of help.

I agree.

Care to respond to my points Itsallgoingtobefine that leaving the EU bears no comparison to breaking up the UK.?

Calyx72 · 18/03/2017 22:31

Didn't call you anything Gruffalo, you and others appear intent on taking personal offence in a friendly debate.

Just back on to clarify that I wasn't name calling.

Second referendum part 2
Calyx72 · 18/03/2017 22:32

It was a quote from the blog which some people took as name calling Sad

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/03/2017 22:35

You can't tell the difference between breaking up a political, cultural and economic union which has been in place for 300 years and leaving an association of diverse and entirely separate countries and cultures of which the UK has only been a part of for 40 years , half of which were no more than for trading purposes?

The EU used to be the Common Market, then the European Economic Community, then the European Community, then the European Union. A trade organisation.

I'm not quite sure what you want from me? Confused

If Scotland became independent we would still have close ties with rUK. It wouldn't make how negate or destroy our shared history. The only difference would be that we would be equals, rather than in a union of unequal states.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/03/2017 22:35

I can't recall over 18 pages but wasn't that link about "metrosplainer" linked to by a poster who expressed approbation of its sentiments?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/03/2017 22:39

I'm not quite sure what you want from me?

I was commenting on your lack of understanding that breaking up the UK is no different from leaving a trade organisation.

Your utter lack of understanding what the possibity of being stripped of my nationality feels like.

QueenLaBeefah · 18/03/2017 22:41

Weegingerdug has about the same credibility as wings over Somerset. No one in their right mind is even going to bother clicking on that link as it is just propaganda.

If there is going to be a referendum it will not be for several years so maybe we could discuss the SNPs record running Scotland. I would describe it as lamentable. Sturgeon needs to start concentrating on her highly paid day job and stop grandstanding with her constitutional agenda.

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 22:42

Yes

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/03/2017 22:49

Your utter lack of understanding what the possibity of being stripped of my nationality feels like.

That's pretty unlikely. Whereas being stripped of EU citizenship is more of a probability than a possibility.

So you believe that Scotland would have less power as an independent country in the EU, than it has as part of the UK. I'd be interested if you could point me towards some sources for that?

And whatever folk think about Wings as a person, his posts are well written and more importantly well referenced.

Gighasmokedhalibutisawesome · 18/03/2017 22:50

Really? I read it, and find that, astonishingly enough, I have managed to read someone else's point of view without lashing out, slagging off or otherwise hyperventilating. (I have been a Londoner for most of my life, and voted for Khan, btw.)

This is not a goady post, just one from the OP to explain my lack of contribution and rapid exit. Night!

It's all. I can not speak to you any more.

Goodbye everyone Flowers

WhatWouldKeanuDo · 18/03/2017 22:57

Itsall: There will have to be a choice made by those wishing to remain British citizens if Scotland secedes.

I will choose to go with rUK citizenship / tax paying for my own reasons. If i am unable to move then i will have had my UK status taken from me.
My kids are born Scottish. This now worries me.

WhatWouldKeanuDo · 18/03/2017 23:01

These are issues for a minority but it's not unreasonable for those people to have concerns.

Thegruffalowswife · 18/03/2017 23:02

Me too keanu goodnight x Flowers

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 18/03/2017 23:05

I can't take you seriously any more.

That's pretty unlikely. Whereas being stripped of EU citizenship is more of a probability than a possibility

If independence happens I presumably will have to have a Scottish passport.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 18/03/2017 23:05

I completely agree. I would never dismiss someone elses concerns. I guess I am not nationalistic enough to be particularly emotional about losing a UK citizenship, to me it is more about the practicalities. For example I think a Scottish EU passport, would be far more useful than a rUK passport. I can see though in this thread that some people see losing UK citizenship as a deep emotional loss. As you said though, I think the people who have such a visceral connection to their nationality are in a minority.

I'm trying to remember what the solution was last time round?
