Where are all the nice 50-something, single males?

Are they hiding? I can’t find one. OLD is dire and not for me. What can I do?

I'm 50. I'd like to think in the best half of my life!
Have not joined the apps, chickened out last minute few times. I'm just not sure, reading on here that I'll find someone truly worth meeting on there...

Onadark · 06/04/2026 18:38

The nice ones are keepers. Staying married.

This.
Why would there be a supply of nice men remaining single? They are snapped up in the wild.

Newgirls · 06/04/2026 19:20

Friends have met decent men on: an expensive holiday, at work, at a running club, online and through a friend so it is possible. Not easy tho!

I’d like to know this too I’m 53 and single, met about 7 men on dating apps and all no good. Red flags, lie about what they want or fail to tell you they are living with an ex etc

I wouldn’t even mind living with their ex. I can understand the practicality of that the ones that I don’t like.
Are the ones that are on their second families and have got primary school children and they’ve managed to fuck it up a second time there’s a lot of of those in the 45 to 50 age group
I’ve met someone with babes in arms
Mum is inevitably about 25

LoveSandbanks · 06/04/2026 19:32

I work in a male dominated industry. It’s professional and in my opinion nice 50 something men, single or married, with even a hint of attractiveness are rare indeed.

MysticalChipmunk · 06/04/2026 19:34

It’s looking grim 😞.

Hiding away from all of us feminist mumsnutters

frozendaisy · 06/04/2026 19:39

I got hit on in the frozen vegetarian section at the local big Tesco- happily married so effectively pointless but he was similar age, decent looking, confident

a good friend had recently finalised a very long divorce - now he is gorgeous, fun, ever so clever, creative, rich, two teenage kids he’s devoted to but has to co-parent and he’s out looking for new love. He’s a rarity. He’s not on the apps.

PermanentTemporary · 06/04/2026 19:42

On my sofa ❤️ we met online when he was 55 and I was 51. There may not be that many of them but you only need one… otherwise I think they’re mostly at Screwfix, Sunday morning cycling, at the local board game cafe, or volunteering at the food bank.

roastednuts123 · 06/04/2026 19:43

I met a nice chap online after me and H separated. He’s a couple of years younger than me at 49 and really lovely. However we’ve recently been on holiday together and I’ve seen him out of his usual routine for the first time and unfortunately seen a lot of things that have given me the major doubts about him.. so I’m back to square one. BTW I also still live with my ex H as we still own a house but obvs separate rooms etc. so not ideal but luckily didn’t put him off!

LouiseMadetheBestBroccoliPasta · 06/04/2026 19:44

Try Burnt Haystack. It's a dating method that helps you weed out the undesirables and waste less time and become less exposed to the creeps, and increasing your chances of finding your "needle in a haystack". There's an instagram site that is freely available that describes it and how it works. You're definitely not the only one feeling revolted by OLD.

DumpedByText · 06/04/2026 19:45

Sadly most men in their 50's want women in their 30's! I've tried OLD, I'm 56 and only got contacted by men between 65 to 70. It really was dire, so I've given up.

GarlicFind · 06/04/2026 19:48

I get the impression they're mostly cycling. You might have to buy yourself some padded Lycra shorts and a £3,000 bike ...

nochance17 · 06/04/2026 19:49

The loyal, decent, dependable types are still married. The very rare ones that find themselves single for a minute get snapped up quickly. Also an attractive nice man with his sh!t together in his 50s does not want a woman in her 50s, he knows he can attract a younger woman. If you discover where to find one OP, please let me know ! OLD is full of the cheaters, time wasters, prospectless losers and those still living with their mother.

Bufftailed · 06/04/2026 19:50

Probably asking themselves same question about women. We’re all on mumsnet complaining 🤣🤣

Trying to get into the knickers of 25-year-olds if our local pub is anything to go by

Surely, by definition those are not the nice ones.

Take up competitive warhammer. You’ll meet loads of single 50 year old men there. I can’t vouch for anything much else about them, but I know a couple of nice guys who play. They both look and sound like Daddy Pig, which seems to go with the territory. Nice, affluent, but potentially not the fittest.

gaonimsc4 · 06/04/2026 19:56

SpottyAlpaca · 06/04/2026 18:23

Is the correct answer.

Any nice, affluent, fit 50+ man who believes he has a genuine chance with women under 30 will be pursuing them. Not their mums.

Na this isn’t the answer, the 50+ year olds chasing after 25 year olds aren’t the ‘good eggs’ OP is after, I’m sure. If they’re ticking the ‘creep’ box, all the other the pros go out the window as far as I’m concerned.

Oxymoron73 · 06/04/2026 19:56

We do exist. 52 year old male here from Northants. Older kids, solvent, small business owner, happy … content in my own skin and reconciled with my place in the world.

For what it’s worth - online dating is just as bad for us with endless low effort “Hi” messages expecting us leap hurdles like some green flag laden knight all whilst fighting the female hive mind mantra of “if he wanted to he would” failing to see the irony that communication works both ways and mutual effort is top tier.

Lurked here a while reading the dating threads [definitely an eye opener]. My conclusion is that women and men are equally poor when it comes to communicating what they want.

But like I say …. we are out there.

RedWineCupcakes · 06/04/2026 19:59

The decent ones are NOT pursuing the 25 year olds. That would be a paradox. Or do I mean oxymoron? Not sure. Either way decent men don't pursue women young enough to be their own child.

The decent ones are already in relationships or don't want to be in one.

PermanentTemporary · 06/04/2026 20:06

FWIW I don’t know any men who are in relationships with women with a significant age gap, except when I was dating when I was being pursued by multiple men 10 to 20 years younger.

Missj25 · 06/04/2026 20:07

MysticalChipmunk · 06/04/2026 19:07

I think the apps are awful. Same men on them too!

I’m 50 & single .
Consider myself normal 😂 , I’m slim , I’m not gorgeous but I am attractive, I’ve interests & hobbies , work full time . Look after myself , like to keep busy , as in I don’t want to sit around drinking tea & watching tv , into doing things 🤷🏻‍♀️.
Can’t seem to meet someone who I’d be compatible with that I find attractive aswel .

MysticalChipmunk · 06/04/2026 20:09

My cousin is my age and he’s quite attractive. Always takes care of his appearance etc. He is actually dating a 50 something woman so it’s not always true that they’re looking for younger women. They’ve been together quite a while now (I think they met on Silver Singles) and all going well.
