Ghosted after a great first date. Best response?

1000 replies

WildflowerGardens · 09/12/2025 10:12

I had a first date with a man off hinge on Saturday afternoon - we had coffee and then walked round an illustration fair. The whole time we were laughing and talking animatedly and seemed to have a lot in common. At the end of the date he pulled me into a bear hug and said “see you again soon”.

I texted him that evening to say “Great to meet you, what a fun afternoon!” but he didn’t reply and it’s now Tuesday. I think I’ve been ghosted.

I feel like sending a final message, something like “Ghosting in your forties? I only date grown men: good luck with your ongoing search 👋 ” before blocking him but I’m not sure if I should do this.

My reasoning is that I think ghosting is crap behaviour and people who ghost should be called out on it.

Any advice very welcome.

Someone who knows nothing about the contemporary publishing industry. You cannot even pay a rental deposit with a book advance these days

I'd be careful about making off-the-cuff assumptions about what anyone here knows or doesn't.

To be honest, you were the one who snapped at a poster about all your Royalties.

What is your genre, out of interest?

There's so many posts from the OP that it's hard to really get a view apart from wonder why, after all the mean things she said about him, she seems to be going on a second date with him?
I'm feeling sorry for Baldy .....
It screams desperation tbh

Only because YOU want to date “Baldy”, eh ducky duck

There’s no guaranteed correlation between how “good” an author is and their earnings, ducky duck

Weirdo.

I've never heard anyone say 'Ducky duck'.

Do your characters say that in the books you write?

Snakehips47 · 09/12/2025 15:52

Forget him, it’s ignorant to not return a text or message after a meet-up .

I’m not telling you who I am, ducky duck, I know you’re only asking so that I’ll reveal Mr Man-Formerly-Known-As-Ghost’s identity and you need that in order to approach him with romantic intent

This ducky duck is very odd.

I know loads of authors. I belong to the S of As.

I am intrigued but think it's too soon for us all to buy hats. Do you agree?

All good now - a second date in the diary and a compliment(!) by text (from him)

Pics or it didn't happen.

ThomasinaHardy · 09/12/2025 15:59

@WildflowerGardens I'm glad you have a second date but can I just offer a word of caution.

When you felt as if this man had ghosted you, you were very insulting towards him, covering his appearance, personality and career.

Now that he has eventually offered you a second date all that has been brushed under the carpet and you seem delighted, which is a great feeling. I understand.

But it does sound for you as if it could be any old port in a storm-anyone will do even someone about whom you have been very blistering.

I wouldn't go out on a second date with him. Value yourself a little more and only have second dates with those men whom you really like. Going out with a man you have a low opinion of, simply because he asked you. will only lead to you devaluing and eventually having a low opinion of yourself.

You're not a beggar and you can be a chooser.

Yes, we need a screen shot of his message then we can all go to the special venue and peep out from behind the shrubbery or the potted palms.

confession247 · 09/12/2025 15:59

You sound fucking mental.

SoftBalletShoes · 09/12/2025 15:59

There could be a million and one reasons why he thought better of trying to see you again, and you'll likely never know why. It's so easy for your imagination to run away with you and think that he found you lacking in some way, but it's almost certainly something banal that you let slip and he realised it wouldn't work. An example would be, say, if a man let slip on a date that he adored Rottweilers and wanted to have two one day when he had more room. It wouldn't matter how great a date it was, for me that's a mismatch.

I'd be more concerned if he turns up again in a few more days, because push-pull is not cute and speaks of possible issues around intimacy.

Plenty more fish in the sea, OP!

Moggies3 · 09/12/2025 16:00

WildflowerGardens · 09/12/2025 10:58

He's the bullet - a short, balding middle aged man with an undistinguished career and zero communication skills.

Miaaaaooow

Or maybe a nice cup of tea to celebrate your success.
