Hi all,
Please can I get thoughts on this. I’m moving jobs in the next few months and will be spending 3 nights at my partners every fortnight ? He wants what would be a monthly rental ? Is this fair ? Thoughts please ?

Would it be cheaper to get a hotel? If so….

MidnightPatrol · 03/06/2025 21:40

Sounds ridiculous.

What’s their justification for it?

RealEagle · 03/06/2025 21:40

Is this a joke?

No3392 · 03/06/2025 21:41

He's taking the piss

AnonWho23 · 03/06/2025 21:41

Absolutely not. Fuck that.

category12 · 03/06/2025 21:41

I'd expect to pay something towards food and bills, but not "rent". After all, who pays for a bed they share with the landlord?

Depends how much he wants as well.

AnonWho23 · 03/06/2025 21:41

It's extortionate

AnonWho23 · 03/06/2025 21:42

Would you be better off renting a room in a shared house?

Is this a joke?

Wish it was. It seems really unfair

It says a lot about his character. and nothing good.

FairFuming · 03/06/2025 21:43

My partner stays at mine 2 or 3 nights a week and I'd never think of charging him rent he helps with things while here and brings food and gets the odd take away and I'm very happy with that. Is your partner struggling and unable to afford the small increase for you being there?

If not it seems very transactional and unpleasant.
Out of curiosity how much does he want?

Flippertygibbets · 03/06/2025 21:43

How much does he want? What’s it for?

VisitationRights · 03/06/2025 21:44

Is he strapped for cash and worries about an increase in electricity/water usage plus extra food? If so, then I wouldn’t stay. Will work cover a hotel? He needs to sort his own shit out instead of looking for a handout.

if he can afford living then he is just being a tight arse and I also wouldn’t stay with him!

SteerCalmer · 03/06/2025 21:44

Does he ever stay at yours?
If he does charge him double the rate

Wethers121 · 03/06/2025 21:44

That’s so unreasonable of him. Perhaps a contribution to food etc, wow. How much has he asked for?

I wouldn’t stay there out of principle.

Koazy · 03/06/2025 21:46

Ditch him

What kind of relationship is this?? In his situation I think I’d be glad you could, and wanted, to be there and if that meant you getting some shopping in or paying for a few meals out, that would actually be pretty generous of you! He’s being a twat.

£750. He had a tenant who left so I’d say it’s to replace the money there..

He had a tenant leave so I’d say he’s trying to get a win win situation

He can fuck right off! Get yourself an Air BnB.
Please tell me you're not actually going to do this!

CharlotteSometimes1 · 03/06/2025 21:53

Would you be paying for this or would work?

Over £100 a night? Fuck that

Id be single too

rosyvalentine · 03/06/2025 21:55

Wow! Thats so stingy. Sorry OP. I'd be ditching him. I can't stand financial meanness in anybody, least of all a partner. I'd be getting an Air Bn'B or a hotel. It would totally give me the ick.
