Earrings found and they aren’t mine! WWYD?

In brief, I found a pair of earrings behind my air fryer when I was cleaning and they aren’t mine. I’ve asked all my children and they are adamant they aren’t theirs and haven’t seen them.

my husband works away. I’m a SAHM so always here.

If this was you, what would you be thinking? Because my mind is in a mess

Thanks!

I'd guess a friend of one of your children. Probably your oldest. Was she showing off the new air fryer to someone?

That’s not something kids show off, or adults really, it’s like saying come see my new microwave.

MayaPinion · 31/01/2025 13:02

He’s a lorry driver who wants to have sex with his wife but hasn’t been for a long time, so you’re pretty much housemates by now. Regardless of the earrings it could hardly come as a shock if he was seeking it elsewhere. He’d also have the opportunity.

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 31/01/2025 13:03

Any chance they could be his?

MinnieMowse · 31/01/2025 13:05

Who shoves stuff behind the airfryer? It’s totally weird.

Maybe dh is testing you, I haven’t cleaned behind the air fryer in bloody ages!

RitaFromTheRanch · 31/01/2025 13:05

I mean if he wants a sexual relationship like most people who are married do and you don't then it's over anyway isnt it?

Meraleine · 31/01/2025 13:06

You never ever have any visitors to your house? And nor do your children?

this is strange in itself

Showing off an air fryer? 😂

I must have weird children then - they are interested in other people's kitchen gadgets :) Seems quite reasonable that the 16 year old might have cooked her friend a snack in the new air fryer which involved pulling it forward to use/wash and the earings fell off and then ended up behind it when it was put back.

I don’t find that an odd thing to say. I find wanting to see the earrings odd though.

I wanted to see if they are really childish looking or something maybe a grown up might wear - I don't see it as an odd question

Both earrings fell off? At the same time? And noone noticed, and they somehow both got pushed behind the air fryer completely unseen?

Notgivenuphope · 31/01/2025 13:17

So your sex life is non existent, he is carrying the can for ALL the financial contribution for this family, he works away a lot, you have way too much time on your hands and over analyse things, crappy pair of earrings found in a house where teenage girls live but yet they must be from a mystery woman...
This marriage is over isn't it?

NovemberMorn · 31/01/2025 13:19

Long shot, could they have flirted out of a christmas cracker and landed there?
😃

Seriously, my crackers this year had things like cheap earrings in them.

It's no more bonkers than other suggestions on here.

They got taken off for health and safety reasons while the air fryer was pulled out to cook with/clean out, and put in the space that it had left. Subsequently the air fryer was pushed back without the person doing this realising that the earrings were on the worktop so they ended up behind it.

It's possible, I almost knocked someones eye out once with a flying cracker novelty. 😏

Yes, teemagers always remove their earrings for health and safety reasons when using an air fryer in other people's houses. And then forget, and the friend whose house it is doesn't remember that even when they see the earrings again.

Sure. That makes total sense.

Yes, Christmas crackers often have used earrings in.

Sure. That makes total sense.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 31/01/2025 13:35

Unexciting:
I'd have assumed they were left by a friend of your DC who was in the kitchen (where teens congregate). If they are cheap ones - they were probably making her ears sore and she just removed them - then forgot.

Quite exciting:
They are actually a recording device left there by someone on a secret mission (dull follow up: perhaps to find out more about your use of the air-fryer for marketing purposes.)

SlightlyJaded · 31/01/2025 13:35

See, my mind wouldn't go to any of the places that your mind is going, So start there. You have a scenario that involves him quickly shoving said earrings behind the air-fryer so that the colleague who was getting into the lorry didn't see the earrings that had been left my his lover as you have no sex life... and that is what you need to be addressing.

If I found earrings in the house, that scenario would be low down/not on my list of thoughts. I think you need to address the elephant in the room which is that you are suspicious of him due to the fact that you no longer have a physical relationship. I'd start with a conversation around that and I think it will become apparent if he is going 'elsewhere'.

The earrings might be one of life's mysteries. Most likely teenage related but who knows - maybe the scenario you are imagining. Have the BIG conversation first and then the earring one will follow.

Oooh I like that, I'd watch that Netflix series.

I remember a thread like this before where the OP was freaking out because something had been moved or the toilet had been used or something weird like that, and it turned out a neighbour had been sneaking into her house.

Kitchensinktoday · 31/01/2025 13:47

I wouldn’t suspect DH if that’s what you’re thinking. If he works away and you’re always home then if he were to have an affair then surely he’d do it out of the house given you’re always home because you’re a SAHP and he has a perfect cover story because he works away…

This. And even if he smuggled a woman into the house when the OP was at Tesco, then I doubt she'd lose TWO earrings at the same time?

If he was having sex in his lorry, I doubt a sex worker/affair partner would take off or lose just one, which again doesn't support the OP's theory.

Exactly, which is why the "Earrings that flirted out of a cracker which were actually secret recording devices were placed behind air fryer by a friend of DD's, who is secretly reporting on OP's air frying habits" theory is really gaining momentum

Furthermore my brain is thinking he’s been with someone when he has been away in his truck, hastily grabbed these earrings in case someone else uses the truck, forgot he had them and chucked them behind the fryer at home. it sounds mad. I am mad

This isn't impossible.

kellygoeswest · 31/01/2025 13:51

This is purely anecdotal but I had a colleague many years ago who was seeing a guy who kept promising he was "about" to end his relationship to be with her. Eventually she got fed up and decided to "speed up the process" by purposely hiding evidence that she'd been their for his partner to find (kirby grips, hairbands, a necklace etc).

I'm not saying this is happening in your situation since we don't have all the information and we don't know the nuances of your relationship but it's not a complete impossibility.
