Friend hit on my husband

AleenaM · 01/05/2023 13:56

Trying to enlarge my circle of friends with kids, met this particular one at some busy kids parties, then a few times with other families too, recently she came to mine with her kid. Husband says she gave him a clear flirty look when I wasn't around, he wasn't comfortable with this and avoided her thereafter. Never really had this issue pre-kids or after kids in 13-14years, he's never said someone tried to hit on him, amongst friends or groups of people who know we are in a relation. She's in a complicated relationship with her child's father. I'd probably describe me and husband as modest people and private about our relationship, no PDA ever either, just to give context to say that we would never flirt as banter.

How big of a red flag is this in my friendship with her? Husband suggests to just keep our meetings to parks/play places and have a more superficial friendship ( I have already stupidly overshared some things with her, to do with our children as I felt her as trustworthy and genuine).

She's not your friend. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Maze76 · 01/05/2023 14:08

I think I would back off from her completely- she’s clearly not a friend if she’s eyeing up your husband!

Drunkenmistakes · 01/05/2023 17:01

It takes a certain type of person to go for their friends husband. They are not your friend, walk away.

Topseyt123 · 01/05/2023 17:05

She's not your friend. Why pretend that she is? Just back of quietly now, share nothing more with her and stop inviting her places. You need do nothing more than that.

Going against the grain - that doesn't sound like much to bin off a friendship for. What is a 'flirty look'?

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/05/2023 17:09

She "gave him a clear flirty look"? Is that it? That only he witnessed? How do you or he know if he misinterpreted "the look" completely? It's hardly hitting on him. One alleged look. Seriously 🙄

MermaidEyes · 01/05/2023 17:10

I would love to know what a clear flirty look is. Picturing lots of batting of eyelashes and licking of lips.

Probably a waggling tongue and winking too? Maybe a raised eyebrow?

Maybe a come hither finger? 😂

Flirty look?

ArcticSkewer · 01/05/2023 17:14

Sure he didn't try it on with her and was rebuffed?

A clear flirty look, my arse. And now he needs you to back off the friendship? I would be suspicious ... of him.

Notaposhette · 01/05/2023 17:17

Did he demonstrate to you what she did? Might be that he doesn't like her. This is why I don't trust anyone with my private info only someone Ive known for years and really trust and have also shared with me.

MzHz · 01/05/2023 17:17

Drop her like shes a white hot bag of shite

shes not your friend.

MMmomDD · 01/05/2023 17:21

What on Earth is a ‘clear flirty look’????
I flirt, I can banter, it’s fun. But I am struggling to figure out how I would do it with just a look…. No words, no body movements, gestures, etc.
And in the presence of children too.

I personally would question what H was on about. Did he want to think she flirted with him as some ego thing?
It’s more likely that she held his gaze for a little bit and he misread it as something.
I look at people(men) when we talk too - maybe in a modest culture it’ll be considered flirting.

And let’s remember that men think that cashiers, waitresses, baristas etc who smile, while doing their jobs, are flirting/ wants them.

I know MN are obsessed with women wanting thei men, but in real life, no one sees what you see, nor want your man.

defi · 01/05/2023 17:26

I'd cut her off she's not your friend

100% 'don't talk to her she's crazy, AND after me' ....🙄

Backtothegym · 01/05/2023 17:28

I don’t understand some of these answers. How did she hit on him. I read it twice and can’t see anywhere she’s hit on him.

unless your husband thinking a flirty look is hitting on someone. Which is weird as fuck . I mean what was she doing licking her lips suggestively?

Um for what exactly/?

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 01/05/2023 17:29

This reminds me of my husband’s friend who thinks the woman receptionist at his gym fancies him because she smiles when he arrives.

Dh hasn’t the heart to tell him that she smiles at every gym member when they arrive.

Yes, maybe he doesn't trust himself around her. Any other bloke who really thought she was flirting would just make himself scarce when she was around, not try to dictate his wife's friendship.

Yeah we’ve all met that dude. All you need to do is smile as some blokes and they think you want to shag him.

I mean wtf in this one, she gave him a clear flirty look, and he’s so uncomfortable he can’t see her again. 🤣

Do,you and your husband always behave this oddly op? How often does he get these flirty looks then, panic like fuck, decide he can only see her in public places and you decide she’s untrustworthy, it must have been a hell of a look..was she giving it some of this?😂

ItsNotWhatItsNot · 01/05/2023 17:34

Does your husband often give you ‘suggestions’ on managing your interactions with people? How is looking at someone ‘coming on to’ them? 🤣

frozendaisy · 01/05/2023 17:35

Once she knows H won't do anything she wouldn't bother.

Nice to know he still has it?

People aren't property, one possible flirtly look could be nothing.

Not so much now, we are getting older, but women used to flirt around my H a bit, used to laugh say "you've pulled" then rescue him as he hid basically behind me and the kids.

It was very funny, nothing to be offended by.

But then I know H loves me and kids he isn't going to fuck up his whole life for a local fumble behind the bike sheds.

It's a compliment. If you trust your husband of course. If your relationship only hangs together if other people don't flirt it's not a strong marriage is it?

Don't worry about it OP enjoy the summer.

Watchthedoormat · 01/05/2023 17:36

From what you know and have seen of her can you imagine her giving your husband a flirty look?

Do you think it possible your husband has given a flirty look or made a pass and she's shut him down and is now worried she's going to tell you so is getting in there first?

Only you know them
