Help me figure out his job.. lighthearted !

I'm chatting to a man on line.

In a sea of sleaze and creeps , he has been Interesting , witty and comes across as clever.
We'll chat again later but in the meantime I'm trying to figure out what he does for work! Lightheartedly !

He is very cagey about his work but Has said, in context, that he is well used to 'nasty people' all the time in his work, he works at weekends, his bio says professional and has a masters degree. His bio also says that he's happy to share photos but not on the actual dating app, due to his job.

His job can be very busy , very quickly or very quiet.

He's recently moved from one major city to another for this job and is waiting for an apartment to be ready. The apartment is in a very expensive area of that city , in a city where there is a huge scarcity of any rented accomodation and he is staying in a hotel for the last few months.

His job also involves night work.
Any ideas?

Military working in intelligence/national security perhaps? I know someone who does this and won't speak about what his work involves, but it's a 'no set working pattern/place' job. He was also relocated with all costs paid, so it could be true.

I reckon he’s in musical theatre or some sort of regular show

EastAngle · 01/04/2023 21:22

No photo, cagey about his job? Either married and doesn’t want to give any identifying details or is unemployed and lives with his mum.

2ndMrsdeWinter · 01/04/2023 21:30

Probably police. Probably married. Block, delete, move on.

2cubed · 01/04/2023 21:31

I haven't a notion of blocking him!!! I'm absolutely dying to know his story.

Mortuary attendant/ technician/pathologist/embalmer ?

Oh yes, he could be a pathologist! Think of what terrible hours they work on Silent Witness!

Who works all day in a Saturday though??
Surely a police detective for example clock in and out ?

Well, of course police detectives can work all day on a Saturday? A shift could be 8-10 hours and if he got stuck in the middle of something it could be even longer. That said, this story sounds like total BS. If he really is in a profession, where he needs to be very careful about disclosure to someone who is effectively a stranger, then he would have a cover story. He could have told you he was an accountant, which usually brings most conversations to a crashing halt! Or if he needed to explain away the shifts and hotel accommodation he could have told you he was in IT security or any number of other plausible professions. He sounds like a chancer with Walter Mitty delusions.

hopeishere · 02/04/2023 00:03

When you say border police moving to infiltrate dissidents do you mean PSNI officers move into the Guards?

I'd agree he's married.

googledidnthelp · 02/04/2023 07:51

The hotel cover story is just so he can hook up without women assuming he has a wife and an actual home I'm sure. Steer clear don't even bother with the coffee.

Liz1tummypain · 02/04/2023 08:00

Please give us an update when you can, OP. Hope things are becoming clearer one way or the other.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/04/2023 08:07

Ever seen the sitcom 'Goodnight Sweetheart'?
He's obviously an accidental time traveller from 40 odd years in the future and his cover story is that he's a spy.

Still no message ...
I went to bed last night at approx 11pm.

I checked his on line account to te read it yesterday to see if I'd missed anything ! And noticed that his distance was 80km further than where is was originally when we swiped, yesterday during the day.

The distance still wouldn't put him any where near his alleged home village either.
When I woke during night , his distance was back at its original number !
So maybe that means something, besides me turning into a detective myself!
I'll update as and when anyway and won't be meeting him today, obviously .

OP posts:
2cubed · 02/04/2023 09:19

So what that post means is that he is back where he said he was originally when we were chatting on day one but was 80 km further up, doing whatever he was doing all day yesterday, until some time after eleven o clock.

@hopeishere .. No , he's from and allegedly worked on the Irish side of the border so I think he may have relocated to HQ. It one theory 😂
I bet the outcome of this is going to be very boring and predictable 🤣😅

Do you mean he puts his location on the dating app? Is it automatic?

2cubed · 02/04/2023 09:39

His distance . It's an automatic thing that lets other know your distance from them so to give you an idea of how far away the person is before you decide whether to swipe or not.

Oh good yes. I didn't think of that sorry.

whodafucisalice · 02/04/2023 10:19

Shamelessly placemarking to see the outcome of this. Looks like he could be married!

Tirrrrred · 02/04/2023 10:24

I meant GOD!!

Thesheerrelief · 02/04/2023 10:40

Had a similar experience this weekend talking to a man in Ireland on an online dating app. He vanished Friday evening telling me he was going "off the mainland" overnight. No sign of him since. I'm thinking he's married and I'm glad the red flag has been shown early!

2cubed · 02/04/2023 10:43

@Thesheerrelief oooh wonder was it the same fella ?
This lad went off to meet a friend on Friday evening... text me when ' he got back ..'
'Working all day yesterday ' in some location an hour away from where we first swiped and is now back in original location.
Off the mainland ??? That's good .. I'll give him that 🤣🤣🤣🤣

OP posts:
2cubed · 02/04/2023 10:46

@Thesheerrelief did this lad give you his height and name began with D ?
