I'm chatting to a man on line.

In a sea of sleaze and creeps , he has been Interesting , witty and comes across as clever.
We'll chat again later but in the meantime I'm trying to figure out what he does for work! Lightheartedly !

He is very cagey about his work but Has said, in context, that he is well used to 'nasty people' all the time in his work, he works at weekends, his bio says professional and has a masters degree. His bio also says that he's happy to share photos but not on the actual dating app, due to his job.

His job can be very busy , very quickly or very quiet.

He's recently moved from one major city to another for this job and is waiting for an apartment to be ready. The apartment is in a very expensive area of that city , in a city where there is a huge scarcity of any rented accomodation and he is staying in a hotel for the last few months.

His job also involves night work.
Any ideas?

Yeah, I'm going with married too.

He's happy to share photos with you because you're not his wife. He just doesn't want photos online in case somsome who knows his wife sees them.

Being called away to work at short notice - his excuse when he has to cancel you at the last minute because his wife has asked him to do something.

Working weekends is when he spends time with his wife and kids.

If he were in the police, he'd just tell you. He's trying to have exactly the effect he's having on you. He has no need to be cagey.

2cubed · 01/04/2023 16:52

I totally will.
I'm laughing here to myself.
It could very well be a load of shite. All will be revealed later when I bombard him with questions.
I'm in Ireland and he moved from the border so it makes it that bit more intriguing.

Nurse ? Doctor ?

Then why all the secrecy? They're pretty bog standard careers aren't they?

Middletoleft · 01/04/2023 16:53

Police, prison service maybe?

I'd hang fire til I saw a pic and spoken IRL

2cubed · 01/04/2023 16:53

Moved from the border down south I should have said.
Ireland is so small that once I get a few more details, I should have lots of info on him quickly enough 😂

Think I'm going to go with undercover detective.
There's a load of them up north near the border and they often get promoted down south to infiltrate republican and related criminal cells.
I'll be back !!!

Sounds like a bullshitter who wants to get laid. You don't even know his surname.

Make it a good ride. Might be good in the sack.

2cubed · 01/04/2023 16:56

Ya @gamerchick ... that's what I was thinking too 🤣

RoseBucket · 01/04/2023 16:57

Have you reverse checked any of the photos? Sounds very dodgy.

Tirrrrred · 01/04/2023 16:57

ShandaLear · 01/04/2023 16:38

Hmmm, let’s see:

Works weekends
No photos
Suddenly very busy
Works nights
Lives in a hotel

He's either James Bond or he’s married. If I was a betting woman I’d put £10 on married since it’s a lot more likely than James Bond.

If you know his name Google him.

My husband works these shifts. He's ex military.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 01/04/2023 17:00

If he's for real, the Police in witness protection ?

We bought a house from a police officer who was being moved for his own protection. We only found this out afterwards, but he was filming impossible to get hold of. All queries had to go through his solicitor.

TheShellBeach · 01/04/2023 17:00

He's messing you around.
He'll tell you that he can't tell you what his job is, until he's got you hooked, then he'll confide that he's in MI5 or the CIA and you'll end up paying to get him out.
Except you'll really just be giving him all your money which he'll use to fund his wife and kids.

2cubed · 01/04/2023 17:03

He'll do well to get anything g from me .. I've feck all !!!!

Are you saying you have asked him what he does for a living and he has fed you stupid little clues? Or have just not asked? Either option seems really odd to me.

Dontbelieveaword · 01/04/2023 17:05

@Tirrrrred but what does he do? Saying your husband is ex-military sheds no light on why he works weekends, nights and can be called away on short notice..if your're suggesting OP's woo-er is in the same profession, then it still doesn't help us work out what he might do for a living?

Tirrrrred · 01/04/2023 17:07

Obviously as soon as someone says they have a job they can't discuss people assume married.

Obviously thousands have jobs that they have to keep secret. However they make up something random to people they don't know. They can only tell certain people certain things. Usually not even their siblings or parents.

Because those skills learnt over 22 years can help with different jobs others may not have the experience or trust to do.

But in this case I don't believe it.

Dontbelieveaword · 01/04/2023 17:10

I hope I'm wrong and I've just watched too many 'romance fraud' documentaries, OP. I hope he's as lovely and honest as you hope he is. Ignore all us cynics and go for it, just stay safe

2cubed · 01/04/2023 17:10

I haven't asked and he hasn't asked me.
I'll ask tonight though!!

Prision officer.

YukoandHiro · 01/04/2023 17:12

Married.

If not probably GCHQ or something. But they usually obfuscate and say "public sector" to try to bore people off the scent

2cubed · 01/04/2023 17:13

Thanks.
I'm not going to meet him until I know his surname and his job so I can do some research.
I've had something like this before except he was married.
Instead of his job, he was cagey with his surname so he got annoyed with me when I pushed saying he wanted to leave it as I didn't trust him...😂
Found him on a Facebook page for athletes ... dodged a serious bullet there plus he was obviously filtered out of his mind in the original photo he sent me as he was not what I had swiped on !!!

OP posts:
Dontbelieveaword · 01/04/2023 17:14

@Tirrrrred yeah, I get that. You're stating the obvious. I was just wondering what line of work your husband was in now, given that you were comparing his work and hours to what OP's woo-er might do - which is the whole point of the fun, lighthearted thread. But if it's top secret, fair enough

Alstothemarvshien · 01/04/2023 17:14

Drug dealer?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/04/2023 17:14

Deliveroo rider?
It could explain the evening and weekend work, with sudden calls to deliver a KFC, a pint of milk or some emergency Wagon Wheels.
The hotel may be autocorrect for hostel.
