Would you get the ick if you were called "boobs"?!

As the title says really. I've been casually dating a guy for around 2 and half months, so far I've had no reason to complain he's been nothing but lovely.

Last night I added a little affectionate word after the goodnight text, nothing heavy, just a welsh word for my darling. He replied with goodnight boobs!!!

It has totally put me off him as I feel that's all I must be to him. Am I overreacting?!

Ewww.
Reminds me of that disgusting horse racing pundit bloke who called his wife ‘booby’, so disrespectful.

JanePrentiss · 09/08/2022 09:36

Ewww... Is he an 80s Hooray Henry style comic character??

Yuck.

Yes! John McCririck!

Blossomandbee · 09/08/2022 09:38

I would've replied with 'boobs??'

Gross and kind of tells you how he sees you tbh

Namechange85 · 09/08/2022 09:40

I instantly thought it was totally disrespectful, he'd sent it late last night and I saw it this morning....it made me feel pretty sick!

just a welsh word for my darling.
what’s the word you added ?

northerngoldilocks · 09/08/2022 09:46

Do you think he meant to type 'babes' and it was a weird autocorrect? Sending back 'boobs'??? might make it clear though

The whole John McCririck thing (calling his wife 'Booby') was even worse that just noting her body parts. He called her Booby after the Booby birds in Oz as she was apparently 'a bit stupid and all over the place'.

Truly was a prince among men, that one. Apologies for derailing the thread!

Cariad.....thought it was affectionate but not overly so!

Yeah you have to tell him that’s not ok.

JustJustWhy · 09/08/2022 09:48

Just reply, "Morning Dick"...

DiscoStusMoonboots · 09/08/2022 09:49

But yeah, Boobs as a nickname is bang out of order. Unless your nickname for him is 'Knob'.

tbtf · 09/08/2022 09:49

I dunno, I can see it innocently, me and DH call each other boobie / boob and it's not about boobs, it kind of morphed from babe and stuck.

We're not calling each other breast

Shinyandnew1 · 09/08/2022 09:49

What Welsh word did you use?

I would reply, ‘boobs-was that a typo? Please don’t call me that.’

SalviaOfficinalis · 09/08/2022 09:50

Any chance of it being an unfortunate autocorrect and him being mortified when he realises?
If it was deliberately then yes, very icky.

HowlongWillThisTakeNow · 09/08/2022 09:54

Does he speak Welsh ?, ( I assume you do ), without looking it up would he understood what you said?

Inthesameboatatmo · 09/08/2022 09:54

Nope ! All of my orifices would seal shut immediately 🤮

Namechange85 · 09/08/2022 09:57

I did wonder about the autocorrect so tried it myself, nothing else seems like I change to boobs!!!!

Yeah he'd definitely know what cariad means.

Seems a little out of character from what I've known of him so far, sounds stupid but I'm quite upset as I am so disappointed ☹️

Do you think he was trying to make a joke and lighten it as you were coming over all mills and boons, with the goodnight my darling in Welsh. and it gave him the ick?

layladomino · 09/08/2022 09:58

Eugh. Makes him seem like a teenage boy who thinks of you as a pair of breasts on legs.

I would definitely reply with 'boobs?' and see how he responds. It's his chance to explain if it was an autocorrect, and a chance to make clear it's not OK, or to move on if he shows signs this is who he is and how he sees you.

Fushiadreams · 09/08/2022 09:59

Also doesn’t varied mean my love?

Perhaps....maybe what I said was too much for him. After 10 weeks that's not a great sign!

From which of you? If a bloke I’d known a few weeks was texting goodnight my darling /my love I’d not think it was great either.

Namechange85 · 09/08/2022 10:02

Maybe, didn't think of it that way around. We use the word cariad very loosely where I'm from with many different people so I saw nothing wrong with it. Maybe it's made him run a mile!

Replies like this baffle me.

Surely you can see the difference between an injoke that has evolved between you and your husband within the parameters of your mutually respectful and loving relationship and something said by one person to another after 10 weeks of dating.

Surely!
