Men in their 40s

I am in my late 30s. I don't know why but men in their late 40s ask me out. This is in real life and not from dating sites. Why would they not date a woman their age? Some of these men have children so it's not like they want to start a family.

Not now, Bernard

To be fair, it would be terribly convenient for older men if we women simply dropped our standards and did what they want us to. I can see why theres an investment in trying different methods of informing large numbers of women that we should be grateful for any male attention, that we have no options, that once we get past 40, we're undesirable (thats really not true; I know 3 women in their late forties and fifties who have married really quite wealthy men recently).

In many ways, its because society moves on ridiculously fast these days. What was acceptable even 10 or 15 years ago is barely acceptable and can seem a bit ridiculous now. Such men are often harking back for the old days when women really needed a man and can't cope with the changes in our modern world.

I look on a bit as competition in the markets. When the market has restrictions, then the players on that market have a generally easier time because they know the rules. When the rules are lessened or removed, then not only is there more high level competition to compete against, the rules of the old market don't work any more and some players become obsolete.

Bernard wears stained joggers and keeps the curtains shut at all times. He has a ketchup mark on his "witty slogan" T-shirt directly under his chin that he hasn't noticed/ bothered about for 2 days... so far.

Bernard's between jobs at the moment because his boss was one of these bitter man haters, and she couldn't take a joke either.

Bernard's mum says "it's all that Linda's fault, if she hadn't complained about Bernard sending photos of 'himself' on the works email he'd still have his job".

Bernard's boss believed Linda, and now Linda and Sue have regular chats about equality and sexual harassment in the office.
